various other reasons, yes. but negative health effects? no.
I would suggest the un-educated watch this

The union : the business behind getting high. Explains it all really, in the first ten minutes.
Then I would suggest you follow up by reading "The emporer wears no clothes" by jack herrer a pro cannabis book that will give $50, 000 american, to anyone who can disprove the facts within.
Sounds like typical paranoid stoner conspiracy theory crap to me.
Fancy explaining to me the health benefits of DDT and Thalidomide, then? Crack cocaine / Meth-amphetamine? LSD, with the fairly well documented phenomena of bad trips and random, lifelong flashbacks? I could probably pull you up a decent list of banned pharmaceuticals, and with my rather sparing medical knowledge, explain what would be wrong with finding a recreational - or even purely medicinal - use for them. Some of them were particular money spinners for companies that were and still are big players in the pharma industry.
The strange, and possibly most dangerous thing with marijuana is its variable effect on people (oh, and that it's often cut with tobacco anyway, unless you're rich/habituated enough to smoke raw grass or are using a bong). It doesn't seem to do a great deal for me, I think I maybe properly got high all of twice - once was working in a nightclub with a LOT of weed smoke in the air (...I then couldn't concentrate on the cash register well enough to continue serving and had to go on break), and i'm still not convinced it wasn't just the baccy that one other time, because that gives me a bit of a headrush anyway (non-smoker). Another dude I know actually did get a bit of a creative boost from it, and was very mellow, didn't seem to have any ill effects. A third was taking it medically (only thing that could soothe a serious sports injury) - though still illegally - ...and he was obviously baked most of the time. Memory was completely gone and behaviour rather odd overall.
I have a feeling that guy's "facts" are easily disprovable, but he'll come up with some bullshit reason not to pay out, or to claim that any science, research, or whatever you can lay at his door is bullshit, vs his own "it stands to reason" common-sense-derived arguments (ie even worse bullshit).
