This post isn't overly serious but it is something I've thought about. McDonald's and Olympics don't seem like they should go together at all. Who are they trying to kid? No Olympic athlete would ever eat at McDonald's.

And most likely nobody who eats at McDonalds would become an Olympic athlete.

Your answer?
MONEY DEAR BOY.

It might not make sense but it doesn't have to McDonalds has large amounts of money that their willing to spend for advertisement and the Olympics and athletes would like some of that money so its a win win for both sides.

Because they have been for years? Even before the insane health craze of the 80s and the "supersize me" hate.

And yes, an olympic athelete would and prolly do eat at Mcdonalds. Every meal? No, but on rare occasion during unregulated diet training times? absolutely.

That makes sense to me. It's either that or they're made the Super Size an Olympic sport. How many Olympians do you know of who can down an entire Supersized meal?

They're marketing to the ironic crowd, or just throwing it in everybody's face that they have so much money they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want.

Wait, what? What is this "Bethesda and id" project you speak of? Do I need to start crying now?

On topic, yeah. I'm going with McDonald's huge gobs of cash as the main factor behind this.

Just because their olympic athletes doesn't mean they don't enjoy a good big mac once in awhile. Lots of athletes eat fast food, Tim Lincecum eats something like 1,500 calories worth of inside out burgers before he pitches, so I'm sure the US handball team can afford eating some fries now and again

because its not about if people eat it, its all about hte subliminal. You're not going to remmeber Apollo Ohnos name but you'll remember that Mickey Ds sponsered his figure skating, and you'll remember seeing those golden arches somehwere before, and thinking back to hwo good hte commercial made it look.

They're not advertising it to you as if you already know it,t hey're advertising it as if you have no idea what a mickey d's is and have been living under a rock.

Well, it's not like olympic athletes would be sick of regimented diets and occassionally want to enjoy a quarter pounder and some fries on their day off or anything, mostly because none of them would ever engage in enough physical activity to burn off those excess calories.

So you're right, it makes no sense.

Didn't Michael Phelps need a crazy amount of calories each day?

Maybe he ate there.
Actually he admitted that many days he gorged on McDonalds. His training schedule required him to consume anywhere between 10000 and 16000 calories a day which McDonalds lends itself to nicely. It isn't something he did all the time, but he did regularly enough.

Of course, if you train that hard you deserve to eat what you want.

There are plenty of athletes who eat at McDonalds, quite regularly.

I remember this one linebacker from North Carolina, I think he's Bruce Carter, just got drafted by the Cowboys; but he was an athletic freak coming into his senior year in college. During one interview, he was asked what his daily meal was, and he basically said at least 5 Big Macs and 3 trays of McNuggets (college players aren't allowed to sign sponsorship agreements, before anyone thinks about money). Fact is, he works it out daily. Most athletes have regimens where they burn calories like crazy, and eating 100% healthy is a surefire way to lose your potential (unless, of course, you're in a sport that requires strict body management, such as gymnastics).

The irony is that McDonalds will fatten up anyone that doesn't work out, but the Olympics are all about the athletes.
