Well maybe gamers just have good taste in music? Hehe just wishful thinking. Anyway I'm not sure but to take a stab at it without reading the entire thread(I read bits and pieces) I'm gonna say that FPS games are some of the most popular games out there and for those who don't like shooters there are rpgs which are often fantasy based. Now take a look at metal, it talks about pain and death(relation to FPS) and it can sometimes have fantasy type lyrics in the case of power metal and folk metal. So there's my half-assed attempt at relating music to games.
Anyway I personally grew up listening to metal(no jokes I listened to Judas Priest when I was 5 years old) and being 15 now I still love it for it's great song writing and musical talent. For those people who say that the screaming is unecessary well screaming yes but please don't confuse that with growling. The difference is the latter takes talent and sounds good in the music, while the firsts only place is in genres that end with "core" examples: Grindcore,Deathcore,Metalcore etc. Also don't judge metal by the new bands that are coming around and calling themselves metal, or in the case of some "nu-metal". They disgust me and should be ashamed to claim to be in the same genre as great bands like Priest and Maiden.
