Quite simply, it's considered one of the best games of all time because a lot of people disagree with you as to the quality of... pretty much everything in it. No single thing.

It's a game based on a unique premise, with clever puzzles, innovative technology, a dark and humorous story, an awesome villain and it's FUN. Well, at least most people seem to feel that way.

I'd say that about sums it up.

Oh and one of the god damn catchiest video game songs this side of Mario

It was funny.
It was new.
It was exciting.
The theme song was 'Still Alive'.

God obviously hates you.

Because it basically has no faults at all, yes it is short, but I thought it was a good length.
It just has it, I don't know how to explain it any better.

Indeed. Do you need any further explanation?

It was very simple to get and fun to play. Sure it was short but that was good for it, it didn't need to take an entire day's worth my time to finish it. Plus at the end it gave me a good happy fun song to listen to for beating it, unlike most other games where i get sad sappy songs.

Its a very good game, I liked it alot, the insanely fun puzzles were brilliant to figure out.

It was taxing but not hard if you see what I mean, and I play my games with the sound all the way up to 11, so another reward of playing the game was having to listen to GLaDOS and her witticism's.

But if you don't like the game don't beat yourself up about it, hell don't bother making a thread about it either, just get on with your life.

Although if you didn't like Portal and you never made this thread then how am I posting in it?

OH MY GOD!, we've created a paradoxical situation and we can't get out of it! FUCK

as an aside I'm pretty sure this would be a Pogo Paradox.

It's a refreshingly different game which requires a hell of a lot more intelligence than the standard "press x to not die" routine.

And this:

Hold on.... You played it for four hours WITHOUT finishing it?

Boy, you suck.

I hate to not be supportive, but... really. You suck.

Admittedly, it is a little difficult to get used to turning upside down after coming out of a portal.

Yeah, it was different, innovative, combining FPS style game play with adventure style puzzling and had a great gameplay mechanic. The humour and atmosphere were just nice touches.

I had the same feeling playing it as I do any good game, as in, "Well, that's clever, but I need to find shit that really pisses me off so I can ***** and complain," but I sorta couldn't.

I mean, yeah, I had about
"OMG I CANT SHOOT TURRETS" -Drop a box on it, lol, PUZZLE GAYM HUR DAR DUR
"LOL OMG SOME POOR BASTARD WON'T ENJOY THIS PART BECAUSE IT TAKES REFLEXES" -Gee that's too bad, be glad you -can- do it.
"MAN SOME FAGS ARE GONNA THINK THIS SONG IS COOL WHEN THE VOICE IS FUCKING UNBEARABLE" - Oh well again, at least the lyrics are creative and it might get your friends to listen to something other than metal.
"WOW THIS BOSS FIGHT MADE NO SENSE" -But at least the globes made you laugh, right? Who are you, What is that? Oh what's that, What's that thing, Oh you're the lady from the test, HIIII! Do you smell something burning?
"THE GAME SO QUICK" - Yeah, I beat it in 2 and a half hours too, and it was probably some of the best paced 2 and a half hours I've spent.
"THE GAME SO EZ" - Yeah, I know only the last... 1/4th of the game actually made me think a bit, and most puzzles were deceivingly simple, but it was still enjoyable, at least to me.
with the game, but I brush them all aside because, well, who gives a fuck.

Also, the graphics, "physics engine," setting, textures, etc, are all from Half-Life 2.

The comedy is generally what people think is the best, but I found it pretty dry/flat aside from a couple chuckles that wouldn't have even made me laugh if they didn't remind me of some other, funnier joke (I'm sure you know when that happens, right?)

The level design was sort of clever, but honestly, if you want a more interesting, difficult puzzle game about moving boxes, avoiding turrets, getting to an exit through hazards, etc, play Bolo Adventures [http://www.squakenet.com/computer_games/5882/Bolo-Adventures-III/download.html].

edit: FYI, I didn't give a shit about the companion cube, my favorite part of the game was GLaDOS, and I hate "the cake is a lie" so much that I slap people IRL if they say it. But I still liked the game. It's just overhyped and so mainstream to the point where fucking idiots I disagree with on EVERYTHING still like something that I also like, and they really ruin it for me, with me being interested in the puzzles and they say something like "lol I used a portal to look at her tits mad close it was funny lol"

double edit: quit pming me, yes I beat the challenge maps, they were not that hard. Just time consuming.
