Why is PSP generally disliked while DS does so well?

What is it that generally makes the gaming community dislike the PSP? Is it the game selection? The way it works? What? And why is the DS liked so much? Is it the touchpad thing or that the game selection is just vastly superior?

I have a PSP and generally find that the game selection is pretty weak but there are some very good titles and really, this is not my main gaming device so I don't need a huge selection, just a few really good titles. Although, I do wish I had a DS now for pokemon goldwhatever.

Different preferences I suppose. Each system has its strengths and weaknesses and each has their fair share of quality games so I personally don't understand why people get kind of bitter about this and sometimes bring the console war to the handhelds.

Although I do get annoyed at some of the real petty complains thrown at the PSP. No games? gee I didn't know this was 2006. "Only 1 analogue nub blarg!!!", I sincerely think that complaint is take for grant it too much. The most often that stupid complaint comes up is when people talk about their precious shooters...hey does anyone else remember the N64? ya know...with goldeneye and PD? that's what I thought. Hell the DS doesn't have one and no one complains.

Anyways, like I mentioned before, both systems are great and have unique experiences to offer. I chose the PSP because it had the games and features I wanted, and I have not once regretted my purchase. Be it ignorance or personal preference, people will always find an excuse to ***** and rag on the other hardware.

I have a DS because of its extensive (J)RPG library and mobs of strategy games.

That being said, I would totally take a PSP.

I imagine that a lot of the hate is typical fanboy nonsense. "I have a DS so the PSP sucks!"

Maybe because people believe it or not are afraid of anything and everything different.

For me, its purely the game selection that makes me prefer the DS. Sony themselves don't seem to care about the system too much anymore. Of course, this opinion is probably based off the next to zero marketing PSP games get

probably because at launch not as many devs would have supported it as much as they would have with the DS,the DS was marketed as an inovative,motion-control handheld, while the PSP was basically a handheld PS2 that was missing an anologue stick, and I doubt the UMDs helped

I think part of it has to do with its game library.

In the beginning it had a very weak library of games. Overall weak or uninteresting games and nothing form the major franchises. But soon the PSP got gems like Loco Roco and Patapon and eventually all the major franchises from Sony like Final Fantasy, Ratchet and Clank, and God of War were ported to the PSP. Not to mention the ability to play classic PS one games via PSN.

As of now the libary is much better, but its not much compared to the DS's massive varied library.

Launch "titles" left a bad taste in peoples mouths, hate seems to linger. Sold mine quite fast while I still have my DS. Sadly I know which one id prefer in the current market, and its not the ninty. Thats possibly just FF9 nostalgia doing funny things to me.

It has almost no good games. I own both a PSP and a DSLite and i bought them both around the time they came out, but i only have 3 games for the PSP and over 20 for the DS. The PSP also has that retarded movie system (UMB?). Why would anyone buy a movie again just so they can watch on their tiny little PSP screen? They would most likely own a laptop or a portable DVD player to watch movies on on their trips. Do they even make those PSP movies anymore? The gaming stores i go to don't sell them anymore. They still have a few old ones that they just cant sell it seems. I probarbly wont sell it tough, i still enjoy playing Tekken on it when i take a long trip. It's the only game i play on it too tough.

BTW sorta random question for all you FF peeps out there. Which game should I pick up for on the PSP 7 or 8? I played Crisis Core and loved it and wanna try one of the retro FF games as I never owned a playstation and so I never played either.

I'd imagine it's caused by the target audiences. The DS is trying to reach everyone so anything Nintendo puts out for it will satisfy at least someone. The PSP seems to be trying to appeal the "hardcore" gamers and I think we can all agree that population is much harder to reach and satisfy.

Buy 7 if you liked Crisis Core, just be prepared to bear the not so well aged graphics. Don't go in with high expectations either (ie: don't buy into the hype) and you may like it.

Stay the hell away from 8 if you want to keep liking the series.

9 is coming to the PSN soon so you may want to check that out.

Tactics is awesome if you like SRPG's and has a brilliant story.

FF1 and 2 remakes are pretty good if you have not played either of the games before. they are pretty cheap too.

Dissidia is just awesome, just get it, REALLY awesome fighting game. If you liked Smash bros you will most likely adore this.

So 9 is really good as well? Hmm I might go for FF7 and then buy FF9 whenever I end up beating 7.
