Why is sex and gaming so far apart?

Ok, in reality YES there would be a hell of a lot of rape in an actual nuclear holocast...but why would we want to simulate that? No seriously, WHY?

What would make you WANT to shoot some girls leg off, rape her, and then kill her?

Remind me not to be stuck in an apocalypse with you perverts....
No, but society always seems to have more of an issue with sex than with violence.
I would hope that guys would show a little bit of restraint rather than raping me. Don't worry, we'll repopulate the planet in good time...lets worry about finding resources to live on first. :p

I was thinking while playing Fallout 3 the other day, in real human terms the urge to have sex is massively strong, but now or days its much more repressed, but imagine we took all the safety from our life's, we lived in a place were death could strike at any moment, you would want to get laid for various reasons.

I'm using Fallout 3 as a example here, your in a post-apocalyptic world, base human instincts come to force, you would shag a hell load, like shooting a female raider's gun and leg, killing her comrades, shagging her then kill her, it would be human to do such things.

So why is this bad? i would like to roleplay as a real human being that includes all forms of choice, whether or not to be evil or good, murder or not, sex or not, gay or straight or even to have a profession.

Its hard to describe without sounding like a pervert, but i think i got my point across.
A murder-rape simulator?
Your right, I have no idea why this hasn't been done.

And no, I would have much more than sex on my mind.
I would be trying to eat. If I couldn't find food, I would probably steal it at gun point. and if I had to? I would probably have to fight.
Far too busy to waste time with sex (which I get every night, so I may be biased).

The only thing sex would offer you in this case, is a little bit of enjoyment, and since they would have all sorts of diseases, and most likely multiple partners, it wouldn't even be that.

Edit: And how the hell is shooting and raping someone, then killing them, Human?
You need help, buddy.

Well in a game it doesn't make much sense really. If there was sex in a game then how long will you use the feature before getting bored ? games have the fun factor for many other reasons.

Plus sex is not in most games because it's maily all about the player enjoying himself by chilling back and excaping reality. Sex is a reality.

Nice post by the way , you got your point across quite cleary.

Yeah...NO. There's a Thick line between Gaming and Porn, and that suggestion just erases that line and makes a circle out of the two. You want sex? Download a Porno or go have sex in life, Im sure both of those options are more satisfying then trying to pixel-rape someone.
Yes there is a line between gaming and porn, however that line does not exist between gaming and sex. I'm going to use Mass Effect as an example here. Within the game the player has player has the option of partaking in a romantic side story. At the end of this story is the scene of the players avatar making love with a character of the players choice. This scene is by no means pornographic, its the beautiful culmination of love, simulated love, but love none the less. While actively partaking in sex while in a game is not necessarily a good thing. Having sex within a game is not.

Why are you all twisting my words?

I made this thread yonks ago to start with, so I'll make it 5 times clearer.

Fallout 3 is my example and I'll stick with it. Humans, what is the main instincts of us? To survive, so we find ourselves naturally eating and drinking, and our bodies give us the signals to do this.

But that is short term survival, our bodies also tell us to reproduce, by various desires.

Now everyone gets the urge to simply have sex, its unexplained, you yourself wonder WHY you want to so much.

The reason why your not going out raping and murdering is because of our punishment system, we did not built cities with public raping, we did it with team effort (As corny as it sounds, no animal, insect nor human society has been able to create a functional society without team effort).

BUT what if we removed the need to work together? Or the punishment system? We are left with complete instinct and logic, but at least a few people would work on instinct.

Now, say you are a Raider in Fallout 3, you have no law but yourself, and would simply go for base pleasures and sadism. Rape itself isn't force sexual assault, its a removal of power and Sadists crave the idea of making someone feel completely helpless.

Now with all that out the way, my argument simply is, if its a simulater, why not simulate everything? It doesn't have to be in depth, graphical and important, maybe just a pop up saying "You had sex" and gain health health?

Because it requires more programing and would get the game an Ao rating which is essentially a death certificate. No game can do everything, it is limited to what programmers program so their is always some limit. Sex is taboo so it has be excluded from most games.

I think sex is the least of your concerns in a post-apocalyptic nuclear wasteland, where anarchy reigns, and mutated monsters kill you at any oppurtunity.

A better Fallout 3 example - without all the rape.

"Hey prostitute, want to have sex? Here is far too many bottle caps."

"Ok, go upstairs to my room handsome."

She then lies down in a bed, and then you lie down next to her. That is not SEX bethesda, do you think I'm stupid?
If that makes you feel better, someone actually created a mod for animated sex, with any of the women/men of fallout 3.

Because games, like movies and books, are a storytelling art. And, like any other form of literature, there are lines that should not be crossed. Having sex in a game is one thing, and it's becoming more acceptable, but then the question is why? Having sex for no reason in a story *cough*GODOFWAR*cough* just narrows the audience and, honestly, is a cop-out. Why bother making a good game or a good story when you know that people will come as long as the game has boobies?

I think a story should only have sex if it's necessary to the story: anything else is just a selling ploy.
