Why is there so much stigma attached to Pokemon?

Most people I know aren't that into gaming. I'm kind of the black sheep of the group, even though I don't look like a nerd. I am a bit of a gaming geek.

I also believe you should've gotten over yourself by the age of 12.

I know a number of adults that still love their Pokemon. I've played a couple of the games, but never got into it. I like the idea of collecting and battling, but never like the turn-based game and the grinding necessary for leveling up and proper breeding. Plus it pisses me off that I always have to trade to find all the Pokemon.

However, I loved the anime series. Eventually I stopped following it because Saturday mornings stopped existing for me (zzzZZZzzz). Not the greatest series, but the tournament episodes are always fun to watch.

Pokemon? The game? Ridiculed? Where the hell do you live; I want to make sure I never go there...

At my school, Pokemon is considered awesome. People will, every now and then, bring an old school Gameboy with Red or Blue on it, and that will commonly result in a detailed conversation about the game in general.

Hell, kids will randomly break out in the Pokemon theme song every now and then. If Pokemon ain't cool, I don't wanna be cool.
You win. I wish people would do that here. It'd be hilarious.
Social Experiment: Go to a crowded area on a college campus and start singing the Pokemon Center theme from the games. See how many people join in.
I watch the anime extremely infrequently (when there's absolutely nothing else on), but I don't bother to follow the plot. The games however were (and still are) awesome. If only I had a freakin DS. I got my GBA waaay too late and will likely never get a DS.

Most of my friends admit that the games are still epic, and still have the old ones which they play when they're bored occasionaly. Yeah we're 18-19 and no, were not the steriotypical gamers eiter.

Pokemon is just legendary, us 18yr olds grew up with it so its full of nostalgia.
atleast thats teh excuse i use.

You're obviously way too cool for this thread. I'm suprised you even graced it with your wit and intelligence. Surely you should be off writing nobel prize worthy literature and having threesomes with playboy bunnies.

I wasn't aware there was any stigma at all on it. I'm 17 and I have no problem telling people I play poke'mon.

Because people associate it with their youth, and assume you're a little child if you play it because of this

Uhuh. And I believe their target audience is for those aged around 13? Even so, it's still fun to play :(

The only stigma that I'd attach to pokemon is one associated with teeny emo kids glorifying it as TTLY DA BEST FING EVER.

Otherwise it's just a game, posing as the biggest pokefan, ironically is lame. Isn't it. Besides it being super repetitive and stuff, I'll still play.

Pokemon is a classic, we mostly loved Pokemon in my year.

There aren't many people who haven't played it and then some may even use the little cable thing to trade pokemon.

[sub]I had me one of those cables.[/sub]

You knew that you were flame baiting when you posted that. It was hardly a constructive point.
