I love morons who go on about "nerd rage". If you're incapable of arguing for or against a subject, then obviously the person who is arguing is clearly filled with "nerd rage". It's better to be filled with "nerd rage" than "douche bag apathy".

Probably.. But Apple nick a lot of ideas from the Linux community.. Who in turn nick ideas from MS and Apple..

And I thought Vista sucked because it kept asking for admin stuff all the time - until I turned it off. And then it seemed to be fine. And then I dropped my laptop and killed it, so when I got it back I installed XP again because I couldn't find the Vista disk. So I'm not really qualified to comment.

What I will say however is this: It's very very hard to write an operating system. And especially hard to write one that should work well on hardware that can only be loosely described as a "PC". Apple don't have this problem so much - they know more or less exactly what hardware their OS is going to be running on so they're going to be less prone to the faults that MS encounter.

To be fair to MS again, they did try to address a lot of the faults with XP - they just took too long to do it. And as a few people have said already, what they did do was not really good enough. Maybe Windows 7 will address these faults.

Now I'm not a Mac fan - for personal reasons - I don't like the single mouse button (yes I know you can put in a normal mouse) - and I don't like the cost of the hardware - and I'm as trendy as a wet sock so I don't go in for the designer stuff.

All that "Hey, go easy on MS and stuff Apple for their Eye-Candy" makes me look hypocritical as I'm actually running Linux (OpenSuse 11.1) at the moment and have it stuffed with more eye-candy and effects than anything MS or Apple have EVER done. I'd seriously recommend Linux with KDE 4.2 to everyone out there as it fulfills all the MS stability issues, all the Apple "sexy" stuff, no viruses etc etc etc. BUT. It's a ***** to get up and running the way you want, and it just don't do the games.. Which is why I've still got XP tucked away for when I need to teach the Combine a lesson or three. But apart from gaming I dont use any version of Windows at all any more - the software available for linux (all free too) is just as good as the paid counterparts.

Crap. I need to reboot to windows now to shoot some dudes.

1. The "stealing" of RAM is usually Superfetch caching your more frequently used programs. What's the point of having tons of RAM if it's not being used?....
I had a hissy fit with Linux when I started using it - because the memory usage was always about 90%, even when I was running nothing at all.. A bit of reading up told me that it was loading in all the stuff it might need in advance - and ignoring the pagefile altogether. Which is actually pretty cool. So I'm here in linux with a 4GB machine with 328mb free - only running firefox..

I'm guessing that Vista does the same thing? If that's the case then it's not stupid or a hog - it's pretty cool..

I'm running Vista right now. The main bugs are:

-it's slow because it eats RAM like my dad eats peanut butter (That's ALOT and ALL THE TIME, for clarification), that's slow in internet, opening programs, downloading, etc

-you need to 'get permission' for everything, even if you ARE the 'Administrator' and there's no way to turn that off that I've found.

-crashes at the drop of a hat; that includes moving the mouse while a webpage is loading, trying to open more than one program at once and trying to run several windows of the same program at once. Also, trying to close a program. Yeah, it crashes when you try to keep it from crashing...

but if you get used to it and/or you don't care, it's not ALL that bad; people just over-react...mostly...
Sir, the fact that your computer is crashing is not vistas fault. Your computer just plainly sucks or needs updated to this generation.

All the other stuff is pretty much solid, except the admin thing. If you are too lazy to hit "yes" when you are the admin account on your computer, then I suggest you either get used to it, or throw your computer out the window and buy a Mac. (Which I personally hate macs..)

I say people fell into the damn Apple band wagon from all those commericals "burning" the PC/Vista. Most people that love Apple have no idea of what Macs are even capable of or what a PC is capable of, they just eat any crap put infront of them.

I use XP. So im not sure, but mum has a laptop with vista on it doesn't seem to shabby. Also my Tech teacher said the full version is better then the other version you can get of it.

It won't play Temple of Elemental Evil...and I have a bit of fun with that game.
Only thing I have against Vista right now.

where to begin? first off, its much worse then windows XP "are you shure you want to do what you just told me you want to do?" pops up often enough, that and the fact that you need at least a gig of RAM just to run it, let alone make it think, add that to the fact that the compatability issues are just absurd (although it can be mended, most people wont have a clue as to how to do that) its sluggish and slow, all it brings to the table is balenced by everything else it brought (EG intuitive OS navagation, countered by the fact that to even glance at a file not on your desktop it whines and complains constantly) that and the fact that being a GAMES and VIDEO PC you need to install every little patch or converter just to get the simplist of things to work

Wow. You're just stupid aren't you?
Wow you're a pretty big docuhe bag aren't you? You really got worked up for bad mouthing Vista simmer down. The "road blocks to keep the bad guys out" are annoying and I honestly doubt they've ever saved me from anything. And as for Vista killing my video card it did 100% confrimed. I got an error in an auto update that caused certain ATI cards fan's to stop working, it was a vista update and if I didn't get it my card would of been fine so yes it did kill my card.

And just because some one has different views or opinions then you doesn't mean you have to attack them calling them shit like a retarded mouth breather, you're some what new to the site we like to have a bit of class here.

It works fine mostly for me, but I do hate how it eats up too many system resources and if you have an open port with nothing plugged in it sends power to that port, I believe. A few other things I can't be bothered to say right now.

You know, all the problems you have with it could be addressed by:
1) turning of the UAC (in account management) - that'll get rid of the confirmation messages (though if you're too retarded to work that out yourself then perhaps you need the computer to hold your hand when you run programs) and
2) upgrading to service pack 1 (as the OS is no doubt prompting you), tried and tested to be superior to XP at the vast majority of tasks on a medium spec computer, including gaming. Now that everybody has produced Vista-compatible drivers pretty much everything currently works fine, unlike at its rather abysmal launch.

Oh, and as to RAM usage - you only have 2Gb, I presume? If you're running the os on minimum specs, then you can only expect that there's going to be performance issues, just like with any other program -_-U. 4Gb should be standard for Vista, and dont forget that unlike XP there's not a realistic limit on the amount of RAM the system will use - as I understand it, Vista will use 8Gb of RAM whilst XP is limited to just 4 - though I could be wrong on the exact numbers.

Rants like yours are pathetic and ill-informed, and all the needless Vista-hate is why the new Windows 7 sounds NOTHING LIKE IT - any similarity would only attract further puerile hatred. Even though it is, essentially, optimised Vista with some new funky features. I can say from my experience with the Beta that 7 works like a CHARM - it even automatically downloaded ALL the correct drivers for all my hardware as part of the install procedure, and I've got a Wacom tablet and Razer mouse, as well as a 24 inch monitor - all worked instantly and completely. Such a nice experience compared to XP. Plus it's lighter on resources than Vista!

If your having no problem then there is no problem. Some people aren't happy with some of the things that Vista does. But like one of the earlier posters said. Vista is a brige. Like ME. Instead of improving the previous kernel, they basically rebuilt it. Then the next release is a better update to the kernel. If they didn't keep doing this then we would be stuck with an old extremely inefficient kernel.

I'm switching from vista to a macbook pro in a week or so. cant wait to have a computer that is vaguely effective at its intended purpose

its not bad at all. if you know what to do, you can customize it however you want. no asking for permission, no eating up the RAM, nothing.
