I still ask myself the same question, why is WoW so pop? And since everyone seems to be so cheerful about WoW, I felt like giving abit of the negative side of WoW.
WoW isn't really worth it. The only thing you will be doing is spending alot of time and money on a waste of time, purposeless, insignificant game. Why do I say so? I've playied WoW for more then 2 years. Roughly playing everyday 5-6 hours on an average scale. Last time I playied was 1 year with the northrend expansion, for nearly 2000 hours /playied. The only thing the game is circling around is gear. You need gear for pvp, you need gear for pve. News raids = new gear, new seasons = new gear to obtain.
World-PvP, idk what this abomination is called. The game went from greatness into being a pile of pure something. Burning crusade totally ruined the game. Heck, you'll be lucky to even see someone questing when you level to lv80, even from your own faction ("And then you just stand there and go: ZOMG" Guildleader angry comment when wiping on a boss too many times.) The great fun in the game was when burning crusade wasn't out. You actually had the feel, that anything can happen when you enter a contested area. It was exciting, now its just like, oh snap, did I just enter a contested area, oh well, who cares?
Gear. Once you hit Lv80, you'll be like, yay, what now. Oh yeah, I want to go do some cool dungeons, raiding. What do you mean I don't have good enough gear? NAY wtfz? Okey, so how em I suppose to get good enough gear if no-one takes me with em? And you thought that Korean grind games was boring, check this out... Okey, so you want to do some cool raids. First, you need to farm marks of conquest or whatever they are called these days, to be able to buy gear from vendors. This will take sometime to obtain. You do daily hc's and 5man dungeons and obtain marks(only once per dungeon) from each boss you down. There are plenty of 5mans, but its still really boring. So you get your raid gear, then get more gear(better) from raids. Yay. When fully geared, you just sit on your mount in dalaran, prefely a 300% flying mount gotten from ulduar or some other special flying mount, laugh at newbs and raid more. Only now you are trying to be the best dps. Finally when they release new content, thats when the pudding hits the fan. Thats right, you need to go through it all again. Get gear, wipe for countless of hours on each new boss. Do the dungeon(10/25 man non-heroic/heroic) 1-5 times a week, wait for next week for a dungeon/raid to reset. This goes on for months. If you are in a bad guild you can be stuck a specific boss and wipe at the last boss each week for more then 12 hours in total (that week), hoping that maybe today that you will down the boss (nope). Social you say, of course and you'll see your guild crumble slowly, since you guys never made the last boss in 25-man heroic. The stupidity becomes larger when you drive around with a 25-man crew in heroic mode. Even simple things becomes someone's hard thing to do. Don't stand in the fire. You need to move when the boss charges. Don't go near that circle. Remember ti change color, you didn't did you? The list just goes on. Okey, so you are in your friend's guild. Of course its fun. But no-one likes being in a casual guild that never makes any progress. Only to know that maybe you'll have a raid this week or not, depending if all the ones that signed up actually did come. And even with a system like EPGP, people still don't show up, giving a good hit in between your social legs.
Maxing your dps(damge per second) is fun, but it gets really old, really fast. New gear, new gems, new enchantments. You need to constantly make money to maintain your raid costs, since you will die and die alot. And the repair bills are very nice when you are not a tank. Clothwearers just laugh at the repair bill. Gold for gems and what not. Not that making gold is hard, if you know what you are doing.
Really, if you like grinding games, WoW is the game for you. You can lose countless of hours into this game struggling to get your perfect gear for pve and pvp. And don't you come and say that you need skills to play pvp. With the 2 faceroll classes Death Knight and Paladin. Simply roll your face accross the keyboard to win any class. NOTE! You need to roll your face TWICE if you are facing an other pally or DK, whoever is faster wins. Okey, maybe some skill if you are aiming at some ridiculous arena ratings. Still DK + pally is kinda faceroll up to +2k. And the funny thing is that nerfs usually are made since there is issues/imbalance with pvp. So as fast something is overpowered in pvp, pve suffers from it, great huh? And you will see these kind of patches all the time, never is the skills as they should be, never balanced, simply nerfed or changed.
Quests? You got to be kidding me, how many quests aren't there. Of course they are so much fun, since they are all static and fun. Kill 20 orcs, collect 20 axes, collect 5 stones that drops rarely. Escort a mule down the road, get ambushed by 3 gnomes. Dynamic, no. Similar quests from level 1 to 80? Yes!
Did I mention gold? If you don't know how to make gold, then you're screwed. Unless you are into farming, yes farming veins. Just getting 2000 saronite ore is a pain in the butt. If you dont know what you are doing, it will take you days. I took me around 10 hours, while using an addon that made the perfect route among all known veins and it still took me all day to get 2000 ore. I was currently maxing engineering, hell of a trip, without buying anything. I know, there are plenty of ways making money. But most people don't know these ways and they just simply pick up skinning/herbalism/mining and goes nuts over those.
To sum up: Grind to level 80, grind starting gear, grind arena points if you are into that ( for more pvp gear), grind with your friends in raids for gear, grind honor, grind for gold, grind the AH for gold, grind pointless achievements (cept are not that pointless obtainable mounts through achievements, which in the end is still kinda pointless, unless you want to go and show your e-pen!s all around dalaran.) grind some friends to get into good guilds, grind to level 85 when new expansion-pack comes out, grind new gear every time new content comes out along with new pvp season gear, grind on frustrating moments with your guild wiping for countless of hours straight on 1 single boss. Grind in a hardcore guild on a boss, for +12 hours just to be the server's first. Oh oh! And gasp over the silly gear design. You dont like the looks, who cares, you need to use that gear, since it got the best stats currently. Oh oh! And the gear design doesn't variate that much between sets. Non-hc, green. HC-gear, purple still same design. Tank gear looking almost identical to paladin healing/dps gear.
WoW was worth it, not anymore, WoW died with it's grinding mechanics. Too bad there are still people addicted to this pointless game, wasting money and time. Of course the good old days was alot of grinding for gear too, probably even more. But to a point where it really mattered. And you could actually feel the fun exploring the world and killing alliance/horde along the way. Not anymore, since the world is deserted, due to new content taking place on other continents. Burning crusade continent is dead, since all the content is for Levels 60 to 70. And northrend is dead, since everyone is either in dalaran or in some stupid BG, wintergrasp and what not. Basically, there aren't really no epic feel anymore. Man, talking about BGs (battlegrounds). It is just like some little mini-game inside of WoW, which in the end doesn't even matter who wins or not. ONLY that the fact you get some marks that you can change to honor, but thats it really. BEFORE BG's there was large world-pvp battles, which was fun. Flightpoints being camped, dangerous to foolishly go by roads and alot of "oh snap moments". Loved it. I mean, the epic feel you got when you was around lv40. Of course you'd go to darkshire if you was a horde player and go gank some newbs questing. And there was plenty of em. And after awhile since that they are shouting after you and at some point some pesky guildie paladin would come after you and hunt you down. You just don't see this anymore.
But then again, if you like the fact that you are spending pointless money on a game, which in the end you will probably feel that damn, why didn't stop in-time? And you just can't go casual on this game, unless you like being lousy in pve and pvp.
My advice, stay away from this game, it isn't worth it. It isn't worth your time or money.
And to all of you who feel emotional about this post, don't. This post's intention is not to be a troll. This is my experience playing WoW. And these a few points why I quit playing. And this is my SERIOUS post. Nothing left out.
