Why is XBLA significantly better than PSN?

Speedwise I've always found Xbox live a lot faster than PSN, purchasing games without a credit card is a lot easier as well. I'm also not fond of PSN's interface which, like the psp's, is more trendy and cool looking than functional. At least it isn't bathed in advertisements though.

When it comes to actual content though it's a bit of a mix up. Microsoft has, via clever "investments" managed to secure some very good exclusive DLC and some awesome Live games. PSN on the other hand seems to have a larger selection of quality games (older ps1 titles included) and, in my opinion, takes more risks when it comes to the type of content available (arty games such as Flower, straight up weird games such as 'the last guy' and outright arty art with content like 'Lurk in Shadows'

All in all I'm very impressed with PSN, now if only the downloads didn't take a fucking age.
Meh, I must agree. I found xbox live to be fun, but also there are way to many people out there whose soul intention is to make people angry.

I have both and i have to say that i like psn better.
I don't play online much anymore so paying for an online service that i rarely use is kind of foolish.
From what i've seen psn is faster and has less lag than xbl. (and my xbox has a stronger connection than my ps3)
I found navigating ps store to be easier than the xboxs' market place, but thats just me.
Oh and since less people have mics on psn you rarely have to deal with the immature insults of those damn 10 year olds who are trying to act tough.
These are the reasons i like psn better but I can't say if it is better than xbl.

While I have to admit that my experience with PSN is limited, my understanding is that XBL allows for easier connections to online friends, and is a better social experience than the PSN.
Again this only from the feedback I have gotten from people who use PSN, my personal experience is primarily with XBL, which I pay for happily if not eagerly. I have no issues with the PSN at all and think it's great that it is free, I just feel that the $60 a year is a decent price to pay for a great online service, though I do wish that there was more free content.

Also, somebody mentioned Netflix, which is awesome.

I can't really say much about PSN, as I don't own a PS3 myself. But if I were to have one I'd probably continue playing on Live anyway.
Mostly because my friends, and I'm talking real life friends here, all own a 360 with Live. So if I'd play on PSN, I'd only have random people to play with.

I am quite interested in the content that's being released online on that system. I love Live Arcade, and have probably spent most of my offline time on the 360 playing GeoWars 2, Duke Nukem 3D and a bunch of other games, and would like to see what PSN has to offer as opposed to Live.

I will say though, I doubt anything that XBL delivers would make it worth the $1199 price for 3 months of Gold [http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000B9RI0K/sr=8-2/qid=1234652893/ref=olp_tab_used?ie=UTF8&coliid=&me=&qid=1234652893&sr=8-2&seller=&colid=&condition=used]
Yeah, for that price you could buy... like... half a playstation 3.

Uh... it says $8.99 on the site for a new one... 1200 bucks for three months of gold? I don't think that's accurate.

I know it's a joke or mistake, but who would honestly pay that much for 3 months of Gold from Amazon, when you can get it much cheaper on E-Bay?

I pay £27.50 ($39.46) for 13 months of Gold (which is less than I would spend on 1 night out drinking).

That and the general fact that XBLA is LARGER than the PSN, so while the games aren't exactly BETTER, it has a LARGER amount of GOOD games than the PSN.

The PSN is a fine piece of software in it's own right.
Actually, with Live it seems to be more about quantity over quality. I've bought far more games off of the PSN simply 'cos they all seemed like more polished products, and there's a far better good-to-shit ratio on the PSN.

For playing friends though Live with hands down, simply thanks to private chats.

Are you saying that you don't know of any reasons except people's preference?
Nope, I believe that Dechef's point is the correct one. Fanboy doesn't mean preference it means someone who's secretly jealous of the other console so goes into complete aggressive denial by attacking the other. more 360 sales therefore more 360 fanboys (the ratio's probably the same for both consoles though) so more people saying that xbox live is better.

This could be a great reason, actually. The party system is fantastic, though admittedly pretty new.

Nothing like that on the PSN?
Aren't their like... chatrooms/conferences? And also groups in most online games on the PS3?

Okay, maybe I was being harsh, I may not have read as it was intended.

I apologise if you were being succinct, I initially thought you were being obtuse but admit your point holds water.
No offense.

No problem.
I gave a short answer because I believe it's really just that simple. I agree with zirnitra's... more detailed version.

I think the reason XBL is more popular than PSN because of the better serveses offered.(such as DLC) Plus, seeing as the 360 has been around longer and is cheaper than the PS3, it's a better choice for people w/ a limited budget. It also dosen't hurt that a 360 and games are a little easier to come by than a PS3 and games.

It is? I have a hard time finding interesting games on XBLA (anything that looks good usually stops that once I try the demo), so far all I got was Cv:SotN, Braid, CC and Maw. For comparison I've put something like 20 Wii points cards into my Wii. Seems to me XBLA has higher prices and often the demos are so ridiculous it's insulting (some cut out after like 10 seconds of playing and I wish I was exaggerating) and I don't buy games that insult me. Then again I have no idea what PSN is like, for all I know it could make your TV explode and ram glass shards into your eyes but I find that quite unlikely...
