Fanboys, that's why.
You may as well have written "FIRST!"
Are you saying that you don't know of any reasons except people's preference?
Are you saying his opinion is wrong? =p

If I am correct, unless a poll is taken to prove the reason, everyone's thought of the matter is an opinion

And In my opinion, I agree with his opinion.

..or perhaps I just like bolding the word opinion too much =/

I will say though, I doubt anything that XBL delivers would make it worth the $1199 price for 3 months of Gold [http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000B9RI0K/sr=8-2/qid=1234652893/ref=olp_tab_used?ie=UTF8&coliid=&me=&qid=1234652893&sr=8-2&seller=&colid=&condition=used]
Yeah, for that price you could buy... like... half a playstation 3.
Or all the repairs you'd need for your 360 in a week.
Repairs? More like replacements. Nice one.
When are you gonna change your avatar?
Next Christmas.

Well, for one thing, it's got all of my friends on it. That's reason one for me to like it better than the PSN. Two, it's been solid for me. In the past four or five years in which I've been on XBL, I've only had one time where it didn't want to work properly. And that was a major issue associated with hundreds of thousands of new users suddenly signing on together on Christmas. Likewise, I've got to spend additional money if I want to talk with anyone, because Sony thinks including a headset with their console is a bad thing. I also don't like the PS3's Guide/menu system.

and people without would prefer XBL, as it allows you to buy the points in most stores.
I don't know if it is different in Australia, but over here in the Mid-West I am able to buy $15-$40 PSN cards at Walmart, Gamestop(oddly enough mine isn't satanic), and Target. I regularly do even though I have a credit card. It's a nice convenience for when I'm picking up a game.

Fanboys are the main reason (as already said), but having used both of them I find that the PSN menus are harder to navigate. I don't think it's necessarily a service issue, but more the user-friendly quality that people are looking for.

And reiterating another point, the normal dollars thing that Sony implements is nicer than the arbitrary conversion system that Microsoft decided to use.

I own both a 360 and a ps3. I know for a fact that I have had a much better time on XBL then on the ps3 network. The only thing I can account that to is the fact that I pay for XBL... I accept that the playstation wants to offer a good service for free... but I love that xbl gives me an amazing experience for a small annual cost... that's why I buy my online games for 360 and single player games for ps3 ( with the exception of resistance 2 ... which I party chat on my 360 while I play my ps3 with my friends ironically ...none of us want to bother with a bluetooth headset )

I own both and they're both good. Personally I prefer XBL because with my PSN I get DNS errors whenever I set it up somewhere its never been set up before.

Both Microsoft and Nintendo, actually. And it doesn't help that Nintendo are incredibly overpriced. It looks good, but $23 for World of Goo? No sale.
Also true.

Idk party chats pretty cool...

I guess XBL is slightly easier to use, has a few more features, and has a few more people on it.
I mean Its ok, I feel like it is slightly better then the alternative "PSN", but not by too much.

They both suck. [http://store.steampowered.com/]

But hey, at least they aren't Nintendo's pathetic excuse of an online system.

I only own a PS3 so I can;t really comment on how good or bad XBL os. PSN is functional and does pretty much what I need it to do in a console based context and to be honest that's all I can really ask for.

The question as to which is better can be solved simply by ignoring the personal preference part of the argument and simply ask. Does XBL offer the certain something that justifies the user having to pay for the service? Does it offer that thing that makes it better than PSN and thus worth forking out the cash for?

If the answer is yes then XBL wins if the answer is no then PSN wins.

The majority of people state Live is much better PSN, like not even in the same league, but i've yet to hear examples of why.
I'm really looking for people who've had experience with both.

Although, I've played plenty of Xbox but i've never been online.
I find PSN pretty good - no lag/dropouts.
I'd like to know what is in this massive gap of appreciation.

I'm not asking which is better, I'm asking why?
6 months ago I bought Age of Conan.
Its a great mmorpg, it really is.
But, between work, and well, work. It kinda dropped off my radar for 3-4 months. Now this isn't to say I didn't like it, I love the game, but I had to really ask my self, was it worth payign $15 a month for, when I barely play it an hour a week?
So, I tried, and did play about 10 hours weekly so I'd get my monies worth.

XBL is similar.
Its 'good' because you have to pay for it, and you 'want' to like it. But, at least its not $15 a month. ;)

I would definitely agree that PSN's use of actual dollar amounts for pricing is preferable over the SpaceBucks model on XBL.
I completely agree. There has been dozens of times where I thought that this game look good, or the video looks cool. But instead of my simply paying for the 2.50$ product, I have to pay 5$ for some more MS points. If Microsoft could just change that, I would love them so much.

I wasn't aware of that - in Australia the only real option is to buy a pre-paid debit card and use that.
Australia never gets awesome video game swag does it? Of course the Microsoft "What am I supposed to do with these random left over points?" problem happens with these cards too.

It's called Playstation Home. Avoid it. It will probably be the most annoying 20 min of pointless customization you have ever experianced.
