Actually you have to buy PSN cash in set ammounts as well. I've got three bucks left over from my purchase of Suikoden.

the money that you pay for XBL is used to secure the rights to DLC. if you compare the prices of DLC on both systems the xbox is significantly cheaper than PSN.

Indeed. The X360 version of Rez is apparently so good that its average review score jumped by a whole eleven points!

I still find it weird that Rez HD hasn't appeared on PSN yet, what with Q Entertainment's strong ties to Sony. We've just got a proper next-gen version of Lumines, though, so you never know... maybe Rez HHHD for 2010?
It'll show eventually, just give it time.

The majority of people state Live is much better PSN, like not even in the same league, but i've yet to hear examples of why.
I'm really looking for people who've had experience with both.

Although, I've played plenty of Xbox but i've never been online.
I find PSN pretty good - no lag/dropouts.
I'd like to know what is in this massive gap of appreciation.

I'm not asking which is better, I'm asking why?
6 months ago I bought Age of Conan.
Its a great mmorpg, it really is.
But, between work, and well, work. It kinda dropped off my radar for 3-4 months. Now this isn't to say I didn't like it, I love the game, but I had to really ask my self, was it worth payign $15 a month for, when I barely play it an hour a week?
So, I tried, and did play about 10 hours weekly so I'd get my monies worth.

XBL is similar.
Its 'good' because you have to pay for it, and you 'want' to like it. But, at least its not $15 a month. ;)
Isn't Age of Conan coming to XBL?
Its a Windows Game, it was released in.. August? for the PC. And they were supposed to have the 360 version sometime later in the year. (probably a year later... if that)
However, the game was supposed to release with DX10. Its 7 months later, and we still don't have it.
So, consider this.
They said Dx10 on release, 7 months later we get it (next patch we getting it... hopefully)
So if 360 version is supposed to take 6-12 months.... you may as well figure 1-1.5 years.
Then you have to consider the M$ angle.
They want all games to be played on 1 disk.
You can't fit AoC on 1 disk.
You just can't. Its nearly 30GBs as IS, and you DON'T want to disk swap an MMO. You just don't do that.
And Unless M$ is going to make an exception for AoC to require a hard drive, which I could alerady smell a debacle coming. (O NOES! I BOUGHT AOC and I CAN'T PLAY IT ON MY ARCADE!!!)

That, and Unless 360 offers keyboard/mouse support for it, you'd have to be insane to even attempt to play it with 360 controllers... (not enough buttons)
I honestly don't see it coming to the 360 anytime soon.
While, from a console standpoint (i'm a ps3 guy in the console department, but PC > everything else) I'm hoping/doubting aoc don't come out for the 360.
However, since AoC is my current MMO (The agency ftw) more people playing = better.
More XBL teens... not so good. (Aka, people who'd play for amonth then quit)

The new conan movie might coincide with the 360 release, which will be what.. 2010?

Anyways what I'm getting at is...
360 aoc = vaporware, and if it does release,
The Xbox Xtreme720 will probably already be out on the market. :p

I don't know.... XBL just seems simpler if you ask me, easier to navigate. I have both so don't flame me for not trying PSN.

So, XBL:
Paying to play.
Dedicated servers that aren't actually dedicated servers.
Only playing with other XBox 360 users.

PS3:
Free
Only minor lag
Possibility of playing with folks on the PC
Keyboard and Mouse support
Mod support.
1. From what I've seen, PS3/360 have a tendency to use the same type of player matchign software, which connects you to the 'room creators' machine. I think The Darkness was a great example of how shitty this is. I believe the dedicated servers is there match making/lobby stuff.

2. UT3, Warhawk, kepth the things that make PC gaming online awesome.
Actual Dedicated Servers, created by the USERS!
I'm not talking about some ass-hole who just creates a 'dedicated server' so he can play some people with 0 lag, and get free kills.
I'm talking about those people, who eithe rhave a ton of money to waste, or somehow, earn money doing it, But actaully 'buy' servers (or in the ps3 case, buy ps3s to be used as servers), hook them up to some damned nice ISPs (15+ Mbs connections?) which ussually results in some damned good lag free gameplay. This has almost ALWAYS been the best approach to online gameplay imo.

The 'anybody can host and match method' has always, been sucky. You always get the guy who entered first as the guy who for some STUPID reason is still using 56k/AoL, or just plain has a shitty connection.

Then theres the one where you play on the game companies servers... This works but it only works if they acutally have GOOD servers, more often then not... they don't.

Dedicated by Users - always the best approach, random match making coupled with dedicated servers for htose advanced users who make them. Check out any UT3/warhawk server list, and check out those dedicated servers, I LOVE games that use this method. For one thing, I can choose servers with the lowest latency that I want to play at, instead of getting thrown into a lag fest...
(oddly enough I play better at 65 latency then I do at 10. I think its because of all my years playing on 56k I got to used to 'anticipating where your target is going to be' instead of 'shooting them where they are actually at') ;)

I think the majority of those claims will be from the "hardcore" teen/young adult casual gamers who have a 360 because of games like Halo, Gears, CoD, etc, and see LIVE and its multiplayer and the greatest thing to happen to gaming.

I have never used PSN, but I heard mixed reviews from "superior to LIVE" to mega lag. But you can't really judge a networks connection speed when the home connection plays a major factor. The only thing I know it that's its free and I think has dedicated servers, and its basicly a console verson of PC multiplayer connections, which is a good thing. But if PSN is so great, then Nintendo has no excuse for having such a poor Wi-Fi service. Both my Wii and DS have bad online play.

Actually it's not. It just appears that way.
Me and my friend were comparing prices one time. Something that cost 10 dollars on the PSN cost 800 MS points on XBL.
Guess how much 800 MS points cost? 10 dollars.
there actually are some content that costs $5 more than on xbox. i think it was the CoD4 map pack on PSN that was more expensive than on XBL. its been a while since ive been on there.

The difference I see is that the xbox live is easier to use and a far better system. The navigation is easy unlike the PSN where I can barely figure out where everything is.

One other thing is that most of the games on XBL are fun. PSN, while free, has nothing going for it. Hardly any games worth playing online.

I'm pretty sure 360 users could face off against PC users in Shadowrun. Whether you'd want to or not is another question.
