Why is (and it pains me to talk like this) "casual" gaming slammed by the so called "hardcore"? Because it's an easy target. These days, the term casual seems to be simply someone who wants to have fun. They see gaming as a hobby to garner enjoyment out of and that's it. They don't care that they're not the best player out there, so long as they have fun.

The term hardcore on the other hand has taken on a reference that signifies competition. It's always about proving you're the best and the superior feeling you get with it. The problem is that it can't be turned off like a switch. It becomes obsessive to the point where it's not just a superiority in a game or against another player, but it extends to every decision they make. Choosing game A over game B, backing company A over company B to feel superior, net trolling debates, etc. A lot have even taken it outside the gaming sphere into real life decisions. The most extreme, if given an equal choice would have to justify their choice to feel superior.

Now the two come face to face. "Hardcore" rages on "casual" to feel superior and gloats about it. "Casual" doesn't fight back because they don't give a damn which enrages "hardcore" because a victory that the opponent doesn't acknowledge is hollow, so they rage more to get a rise. It doesn't happen and further rage is induced and on and on and on. Meanwhile "casual" gamers and less vindictive "hardcore" gamers see this, shake their heads and walk away, leaving the ragers looking pathetic.

To be honest, if it wasn't so pathetic or so invasive (just look at this thread itself for examples) it would be fun to watch. Personally, if just enjoying a game in of itself makes me a casual, then so be it. I will be enjoying my games while you so called "hardcore" gamers scream at the top of your lungs at just how much better you are while the rest of the world doesn't give a damn.
this is decidely incorrect and i allmost find it insulting.
first of: no. if gameing is a hobby to you you are certainly no longer casual. it being a hobby for you would mean you are willing to put in time effort and money and in obsene amounts to become as good as you can possibly becaome and then when you do become that good good become better.
also the scenarior you describe is so hillariously far off that i'm not even sure what you are talking about. those admitedly anoying super hardcores would love the empty hollow win because it simply adds to their score so they don't really care how they got it. no what infuriates them is when that casual player sudenly stands in their way. when sudenly they have a casual player draging them down. when sudenly the guy who cared so much for what he's doing even if he is being an anoying abuse overdramtic wanker at this point it's understandable that the fact that he's sudenly expecte dto simply alow these people who do not care much about the resulkt of what they are doing despite it not being a result only mattering for them. this guy cares about his results so now he's forced to carry the weight of the guy who don't care and somehow the guy who cares is a fault for makeing the game not fun? he was the one here to begin with.
let's take any other hobby. let's take jigsaw puzzels. the people who really care out there lays what 10000 pieces? 50000? 100000? i'm not sure but i'd guess at least 1000 for those who it's really something. let's then say the armyu of people who could not be bother to finish anything with more than 100 pieces suddenly demanded that every puzzel should be solveable by them. no longer should any jigsaw puzzel be alowed to have any more than 100 pieces because if they did casuals would never finish them. it would sound insane.
but when it comes to gameing aparently this kind of behaviour is completly rational.
my problem isn't with games clearly intedet to be for the casual player. i'm not saying don't make any 100 piece puzzels because obviously most people ain't gonna go beyond that. it just enrages me when they then set their eyes on games not ment for them and declare that they too should have a chance at those games too.

If you play games for fun, and are not paid for it, it is a hobby. It doesn't matter how much time, effort, or money you spend on it. Something done for fun = hobby.

To be a hipster here... We were all here BEFORE gaming went casual.
I like how you think.

Because "normal" gamers are quite selfish and want this "medium" to be all theirs.
The only real flaw about that is when casuals want every game to suit their needs when they really don't want to get invested in it. They just want to play for shits and giggles and those played before they came along that struggled feel ripped off. Think about an MMO where you needed to put in 50 hours to get that badass epic armor set or weapon from a dangerous raid. Now casuals thought it was too hard and wanted that gear too so now it takes 5 hours to get to the point where that raid is beatable. Is that fair to the players that busted their ass to get that no it isn't. It's turning into a double standard if hardcore gamers ***** its wrong, yet when casuals do it's alright that not cool.

Because casual gamers don't respect games, and whine when things are "too difficult". Stop complaining about difficulty and getting crushed, and I'd be perfectly ok with your lack of gaming enthusiasm.
