Heck, that could even work until a politically/religiously charged topic comes up.BiscuitTrouser said:This goes under the assumption that we would see a lot of hate and bile. This might not be the case. We might find that intelligent discourse is still maintained among users and that, while users are more ready to present opinions or say things that otherwise they might keep in their heads, real discussion isnt entirely replaced with flame and pointless spam.lacktheknack said:We wouldn't, we'd see much worse results, seeing how there's a username attached to everything.BiscuitTrouser said:Oh i dont, and you raise quite a few valid points against it. I was just curious as to what would happen if we took the lawless setting of 4 chan and applied it to escapist users. Would we neccessarily see the same results?lacktheknack said:Yeah, it kind of is.BiscuitTrouser said:As a suggestion to the mods on this site about the escapist can i offer one idea? Just one.
For a single week/month or whatever. Lets have 1 new thread stickied in offchat. Lets call it the anarchy thread. Make it so in this thread no one can be banned for any reason. And lets see what happens. If it doesnt descend into complete 4chan ness maybe it tells us something about the users and rules? It would be interesting to see thats all im saying.
Would a single thread with this system be such a bad idea?
I, for one, would avoid that thread like the plague. As would many who love the moderation around here.
And then, all of a sudden, everyone who takes advantage of the anarchy thread would become future mod-targets and people begin to dislike them, seeing how personal attacks would run wild and major "F*ck Authority" mindsets would reign. The renewed distrust and dislike that would be formed between various members would hurt the forum.
If you really want a bile bucket to spit bile into, there's always /b/...
That said im perfectly happy with the forum as is right now, i was just interested as to what such a thread would look like and its impact on the escapist community.
But they would.
AND THEN EVEN THE HAND OF GOD COULD NOT SAVE US.
