People may start treating games as a proper artistic medium by then.
If gaming makes the effort to be less juvenile, that is.

Uhhhhh... no. The racism that blacks had to endure before the civil rights era was terrible, yes, but the Nazis were far worse than rednecks with shot guns. Goebbels was a crazy mother fucker that even the KKK would probably dismiss as too fringe.AkJay said:Too soon, i guess racism towards blacks is much worse then the possible genocide of an entire population (WW2). But, i couldn't imagine a good game plot that would involve the KKK, not to mention that sales would dip in those certain southern US states.
If I remember rightly its from the Greek kyklos meaning circle with a misspelled clan tacked on the end, I guess Americans have been misspelling words to hip for a long timeCargando said:Incidentally, I've been doing the Klan in history class today, and I couldn't help but wonder what Ku Klux Klan actually [i/]meant[/i]. I mean it doesn't look English, so what is it?
Actually I think that would be an interesting story of some form of media, Game, Movie, Book, etc. Along the same premise but where you play the perspective of a person from a town plagued by KKK types, but a common belief among the people of your town is that they are wizards or ghosts, or some sort of paranormal entity. I think it would have some interesting rising action.THAC0 said:A while back i was pranking a friend and told him that there was an Assassin's Creed spin off in the works where you played a member of the Ku Klux Klan. As i kept talking and the joke got bigger, I told him that you played as a character in a more modern version of the Assassins that were working from within the KKK in the early 20th century. It was a good cover because the klan and complete freedom of movement in the south, and access to powerful political figures at the time. But a group of civil rights workers have stolen a collection of documents that they assume are related to the klan, not knowing that they are really related to the Assassins. Then our hero has to go and trek across the deep south fighting klansmen without blowing your cover and trying to recover the stolen documents.
At this point i understood that i was starting to think that this game might actually be pretty enjoyable, and then i realized that not a single game that i am aware of has ever been in this setting. Why not?
The deep south at the time was full of vast wilderness, dotted with small communities, populated by interesting people, and rife with conflict. Its like a template for every RPG that has ever been made. The klan themselves rode around on horses dressed in sheets calling themselves wizards inflicting violence on others. How is that not a good idea for a villain?
Why hasn't this been touched?
K, i know that racism is a touchy subject for some people and the klan and racism go hand in hand, but really ignoring it isn't going to make it any better. Nazis were a little bit racist too if memory serves, but we shoot the hell out of them in just about every FPS on the market, so why can't we shoot klansmen too?
why?
That game looks sick! Where can I get a copy? On topic, a game with the Klan in it would do terrible things for the reputation of gaming.harhol said:Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu-Tang:_Shaolin_Style]
I don't think you understood the concept. The OP was describing the concept of a group of Assassins operating within the KKK, thus are likely sleeper agents put there to eliminate an important leader of theirs at some point. Kind of like the points in Velvet Assassin where Violet dressess up as a Nazi nurse to get around a Nazi guard, except stretched out over the course of an entire game, and hopefully better.axia777 said:Are you serious? The KKK? That is just distasteful. Let's play as fucking Nazis next burning Jews in death camps. After that we can make a game playing as Pol Pot killing his way across Cambodia.
I don't think you understood what the OP was getting at. Also IJustaGigolo said:Hey I bet it would be Glen Becks favorite game ever. And if people didn't buy it then he'd just call them communists, so I bet it would sell a ton.
Maybe we should have a game where the terrorists are all Caucasian frat boys, they would still pose more of a threat than the KKK do today.piscian said:that makes sense, honestly the closet thing to an actual fight was when the FEDS kicked them out of geogia and they didn't make so much as a mousefart on the way out.jboking said:It probably has something to do with the clan not being threatening anymore. In fact, they are closer to pathetic. We want to fight someone that seems like a threat like Nazis, the Government, or Aliens.
But frankly I'd still rather have them as enemies than random fictitious middle eastern enemies. It's just gonna make things worse on us pigeon holing ethic groups. god there's irony in that.
l4d2 is set in the south^^, and if everybody else can handle getting their culture molested by game developer whit a smile why shouldn't people from south north america? thats an even more offensive stereotype that they would start yelling and have a hoedown strike untill "them damn Europeans would stop making them mean games, stupid Frenchmen". and i hardly think any black people out there would be offended by a game dealing whit racism, and even if they where i would think that they would still be trying to convince Hollywood to stop it first before going after the game industry. The Rogue Wolf said:You'd have complaints from everyone. Southerners, for perpetuating the stereotype that the South is still racist; African-Americans, because any possible portrayal of the KKK would still be too humanizing for their comfort; and everyone else, for making them play a game set in the South.
That's ridiculous we play tons of war games where we go and soot up hoards of Nazis and they were worse than the KKK. The point is that they do deserve to be acknowledged... If only for long enough to point out what bastards they were.Mazty said:Because the KKK deserve no recognition. Why not just have a Wii mini-game of racist beatings? American History X anyone?
Seriously, the KKK are just a bunch of racist idiots, whose leader is retardedly named the Grand Wizard (I shit you not). They should be preferably ignored or belittled.
You couldn't have the KKK in a game without it being done in either bad-taste or just a mindless frat-boy overtone to the whole thing.
