Are you serious? The KKK? That is just distasteful. Let's play as fucking Nazis next burning Jews in death camps. After that we can make a game playing as Pol Pot killing his way across Cambodia.
Yeah, I'm with this smart guy.

Reasons That Nazis are Good for Games and the Klu Klux Klan is Not.

1. WWII games involving Nazis tend to steer around the prosecution of jews, because it makes the gamer uncomfortable. The games revolve entirely around military aspects. Remember that Call of Duty map that was inside a still-used concentration camp? Didn't think so. You can't do this with the KKK because they've never been an actual faction in a war. (No, not even the Civil War)

2. The Klu Klux Klan is still in fairly abundant use, at least in the Deep South. If there's anyone you don't want to rebel against your product, it's people with Rebel Flags on their lawn. Nazis, on the other hand, are few and far between. The Third Reich was ended all the way back in 1945. Nazi's are few and far between nowadays.

3. Racism against the black community is in an extremely delicate place right now. The majority of the American (and perhaps European) gaming community would be too afraid or disgusted by the games plot to even consider owning it. If that's not enough, remember the angry mob circling Valve when they announced that there would be black zombies in New Orleans? Now imagine if there was a game with black people hanging from trees. Not to mention the brutally offensive language in the game, should it be in any way accurate. It's just too political and controversial a subject for an entertainment industry; they're not built for politics.

4. I've said this before and I'll say it again: A great bad guy makes a great game, and Hitler's the worst guy out there. Why? His cunning ability to persuade, military genius, and interesting past met with a heart blacker than coal on the highest seat of power in Germany. It's kind of like if in Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lector was president. With the KKK on the other hand, there's no competent leaders to represent it's power. Even with the Civil War deemed unusable, Robert E. Lee, the Confederacy's General, was known to be religiously anti-slavery. Jefferson Davis? He didn't even want to secede. As for Nathan Forest, the original Grand Wizard of the clan? He was a huge, violent bastard and had a strong military intuition, but he doesn't quite stand up to video game villains. He was more of "The final boss that you fought in place of the frail weakling of a mastermind that had opposed you the entire game." He was more of a Sagat while Hitler was a straight up M. Bison.

5. Most importantly, the KKK isn't known for it's gun fights. Typical Klan terrorism revolves around killing weak, unarmed, outnumbered minorities and would probably only attack a strong protagonist in his sleep, or while he's unarmed and off guard, out of the public eye, off of work hours, at night (like in his sleep...) For that reason, they don't stand up as exactly the kind of formidable demons the game would need them to be.

It just doesn't work, THAC0.

You gotta be fucking kidding me... People got upset that there would be a majority (If not ALL) of black people vs white people zombies in NEW ORLEANS, an area where blacks make up 95% of the population!? COME THE FUCK ON!

Yup... there's even an article on the Escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93597-Valve-Responds-to-Racism-Accusations] about it. See what I mean by it being a touchy subject?

It wasn't really "people", it was just, like, one guy.

The whole thing was really overblown.

Everyone would rather just forget about that inconvenient era of American history...

Honestly, the uproar would be tsunamical.
I disagree with the first part and I agree with the second part.

To forget about a specific era of American history just because it leaves a bad taste in our mouths is not the way to go. The old addage of, "Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it," comes to mind.

Anyhow, that's the history buff in me talking...

Having said that, I think the idea of putting the Klan in a game as the antagonist is a bad idea. The Klan are masters at twisting publicity to their advantage - no matter how it is slanted. Putting them in a game would just give them something to either gloat about or file suits over. Either way, they would take center stage in a media frenzy if they were allowed to be killed in a game.

Could it be done? Yeah. Should it be done? That's an emphatic NO.
