Just as the title says why do you guys think the Nintendo Wii has no love everybody i know hate's it so much but i love mine so it brings me too the question how do you feel about the Wii?
because...quite frankly looking back its a piece of crap [footnote/]yes that sounds harsh...but so damn cathartic too[/footnote]

aside from the few core Nintendo titles there isn't really much on offer...usually ranging from mediocre to ports...to downright awful shovelware...not to mention good games buried so deep in obscurity because after while the core market stopped caring, another bad aspect is that you really couldn't have it has your one and only gaming systm

that is unless you wanted to live in your own little gaming world...

some Time ago I was looking for the metroid prime trilogy and was almost angry at the amoutn of crap and shovelware

the Wii may have been a financial sucess, it might have even beena cultrual sucess in one way or another.....but I hesitate to call it a "sucess"

Personally I really dislike motion controls and I'm not a fan of most Mario games and Zelda games so the Wii has 0 appeal beyond Metroid Prime 3.

The one thing that really annoys the hell out of me is the Wii has the most options for controllers (minus a PC) however every game they 90% of the time force you to use the dumb wii remote or motion controls.
It's not bloody hard to let the player chose what they want to use, most PC games let you pick so why not the wii? I'm sure it'll be the same for the WiiU to boot.

It's worth it when there's a good game, but the controller isn't very welcoming, and not greatly used. And Nintendo deliberately avoided improving the specs.

So it's like a Gamecube, with an annoying controller, with a relatively small decent game catalogue.

One reason and one alone: the almost contractual obligation of developers to include motion controls in their games, even if the game didn't lend itself to them. The weaker hardware, the shovelware, the "your grandma's playing Wii-Whatever" really didn't matter in the bigger picture. The only thing that mattered to me and crippled the Wii was that what could be an experiment that would lead to an innovative way of playing games transformed into a full-on-gimmick and turned the entire system into a one-trick-pony.

Because of that I also hold it accountable for giving birth to its clone atrocities, like the Kinect.

If it had kept its motion controls as an option for developers that actually had good ideas on how to use them and subsequently opened itself up to a bigger and richer library, it'd get a hell of a lot more respect from me.

I sure as hell want one. Mostly for the following:

Mostly these:
- Metroid Prime 3
- The Last Story
- Xenoblade Chronicles

But also:
- Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers
- Super Mario Galaxy and 2
- Okami
- No More Heroes 2
- Donkey Kong Country Returns
- Zelda: Skyward Sword
- Kirby's Epic Yarn

More than enough reason to miss a Wii.

I like it somewhat, mario galaxy is (imo) the best orginial IP this generation.

This is sort of off topic but, I find it laughable when people who own a PS3 or Xbox make fun of the wii and say how it is crap. Almost after that they start complaining how they get ripped off by publishers with ludacris prices in terms of dlc and online transaction and complain about how Sony or Microsoft allows it. The wii, in my experience, has never had this downfall.

I'm okay with the Wii, but it just doesn't have enough good games to compete with everything else.
Though two of my favourite games of this gen are on it- the No More Heroes games.
Of the three current consoles, it's certainly the one I've played the least.

I wasn't planning to get one "soon." It's on the bottom of the priority list. I still need to get a dirt cheap SNES, NES, N64, Playstation, Dreamcast, & Game Boy. I wonder if I can actually buy a Super Genintari. I sure as hell don't want to make one myself.

1) Motion controls killed the thing. Every third party game slack them in without the controls being even slightly innovative.

2) There are no freaking games on the thing. There are some solid first party titles and maybe a handfull of good third party stuff like RedSteel 2 and No More Heroes. Everything else was shovelware.

I own one, and I pretty rarely use it these days. Here's why.
The motion controls? Pretty crap. Even with the Wii Motion Plus it's still far from ideal and far from 1:1 motion. An analog stick is going to beat it out in almost all situations. Plus, hamfisting motion controls into ordinary games is extremely annoying. I am okay with it being in fitness and sports games, but it doesn't fit in the average adventure game or action game. It adds nothing to the experience. With no tactile feedback, you're extremely aware that you are in fact holding a white dildo and waving it around like a moron while playing.

Another thing is the games. Wii had some good titles for sure, but it missed an absolute ton of multiplats and in general was over-saturated with too much shovelware and too little great games. There are a lot of mediocre "cult" type games, but not a lot of solid great games, aside from first party titles. I feel the GameCube had a much better library, first and third party wise.

Then there's the multiplayer and online issue. Nintendo could not compete whatsoever with the other system's online functionality. Friend codes alone are a terrible concept, but friend codes for individual games instead of the whole system is beyond terrible. Why do I have to type in 16 numbers to become friends with someone? It should be as simple as clicking on their name, and hitting "add friend". Then there's the shop. Virtual Console was a success and was enjoyable, but WiiWare was terrible compared to PSN and XBLA, or any PC indie games. There were practically no good titles.

I do tend to use it every now and then when I want to play some virtual console games, or some Skyward Sword or Animal Crossing (another game that does NOT need forced motion controls), but overall, it just collects dust most of the time.

Motion controls are terrible for gaming and Kinect/Move proved that even more.

So once you strip away Wii's primary gimmick, it is nothing more than a low-spec box that you have to buy in order to play Nintendo's dead-horse exclusives (Zelda/Mario/Metroid). Third-party support absolutely sucked.

I mean look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaW2tvYoFxk

Just an example of how stupid the controls can get. Yes the guy isn't the most mature person and he's probably not doing that particular puzzle correctly...but just look at how the ingame sword corresponds with his actual movements (hint: they don't).

It sums up how of my Wii experiences went.

Well it's dated, it has just a couple of games that i would enjoy, i hate motion controls, it's called Wii, i'm not a Nintendo fanboy and not a soccer mom which 'excersises' in front of a TV. I don't really hate it, but i don't have any love for it either.

I don't think people necessarily hated the Wii; more what they thought it represented: the end to "hardcore games". To a lot of people, it started to look like Nintendo was going to abandon the "gamers" and focus solely on their grandparents. It's just a fear a lot of people could never get over. Of course, that wasn't the only reason.

I think "disappointed" would be a far better term than "hated". I know a lot of people were really excited when it was first announced, but the technology just never lived up to the potential. Extra Credits likened the Kinect to the Uncanny Valley, and I think the same can be said for the Wii as well. Because the actions of certain things were kind of there, it made it far more noticeable when things were off. The imperfections became far more apparent than they would with a controller. Honestly, I'm not sure who Nintendo is trying to target nowadays. The Wii U controller is clearly aiming at the smartphone/tablet crowd (which most of the "hardcore gamers" hate), but Nintendo keeps advertising that the Wii U is going to be a system for hardcore gamers. Basically, I just think the system didn't deliver on what it promised, it didn't make playing games feel more realistic, and it disappointed people.

Because there's a mere handful of games that's worthwhile in the sea of games mostly made out of gimmicky bullshit.
I haven't touched my Wii since Muramasa.

I'm actually probably going to get a Wii this Christmas, mainly just to play Gamecube games but some of the new Wii games as well.
Make sure you avoid the "Wii Family Edition" so as they removed the GC backwards compatibility in that version

OT:Mixed feelings really. While I got plenty of use out of mine and enjoyed a lot of it there were plenty of things wrong as well.

Its not a srs console for srs gamerz.
This, and the lousy game library. This really hit home when I was looking for pre-owned Wii game on Gamestop (Buy 2 get 1 free). As I was looking through their stock, I noticed how so much of it was crappy games. There ARE good Wii games, but you could count most of them on both hands. The Virtual Console does help, but still...
