As has been said before for me it is merely the cost. I have a PS3 and a PC and that already stretches my game budget. There are only a handful of titles that I am interested in that are not released for either PC or PS3 and multi-platform choices are made on which is cheaper (usually PC) or which is the better version. For me there is no real need to own a 360 or Wii, and that is money that could be more well spent on games for the other systems or general expenses (food, clothing, shelter, etc). If given the money to buy a 360 and Wii I would rather spend it on upgrading my PC (if I could only use it for gaming purposes).

I see the point being made here. But owning all the consoles would not stop people from having their own opinions. PS3 is the only one I dont have, but honestly i'd rather save up for my PC/360 games instead of just buying the PS3 for MGS4 and MAG.

Well at one point I actually had all consoles.

I got tired of the 360's bullshit failure rate, so I got rid of it. That's the only reason I don't have an Xbox.

That and how I don't really like their exclusive games.
how many fails and in what context? Replacements? Refurbishments? What kinda usage? Also your Bank Account Details? :)
9 fails in total, 6 replacements, I had to buy the other 3, used about 2 - 3 hours every couple of days in a 65F degree room, stored in a case that left it with room to breathe just as instructed and my Visa card number is 409- HEY, wait a second
Damn it, so close :D :D :D

But yeah, that's terrible reliability. I easily get that much usage on PS3 and PC, though I haven't found myself using 360 quite as much. But when Crackdown 2 comes out... better keep my warranty card close (you just need the serial code actually right??).

But one thing, that's 9 consoles over how many years/months? Over any length of time you deserve a prize for persistence.

Like some have already said neither do I want to own all consoles. Sure Wii has marios, playstation has littlebigplanets, uncharted and xbox has halos but I don't really get the point. I'm hardcore pc gamer myself and just got myself an xbox 360 just because most 3rd party developed games work on it better than they do ps3 (and because my bro owns playstation 3 I don't have a need to get one myself). Gaming is fun but I don't have obsession to get every darn game in the universe. Even though I only buy my games from auction sites and 2nd hand stores for about 20-30 euros I still barely have money for few games every month.

If you want to get every console, sure I'm cool with that but really, you don't need to make topics about it. There's nothing too interesting to talk about it just loads of rants instead.

I must be crazy, just sold my xbox (because I'm in a middle of a move so selling the console itself and keeping everything else cuts down on weight y'see) but I have everything, Ps3, Wii, Xbox, DS and PsP and tbf I manage to get all the games I want, yeah I have to sell or trade in a few now and then but I've always managed to keep my favourite games for each console and I have about 5 games for each that I own and I've played so much more due to cheap rentals or trading stuff in but I'm glad I have all 3 because if I didn't I'd not be able to play some of my favourite games (noted my top 3 favourite games are multiplatform, kinda...) but I'd have also missed out on Brawl/Zelda/Metroid/Another Code/No More Heroes/The Last Remnant/Mass Effect/Lost Odyssey/Yakuza 3/Heavy Rain/White Knight Chronicles/Metal Gear Solid 4/Valkyria Chronicles etc etc.

I bought a Wii first and loved it, I then bought a 360 and it was meh...until I got Oblivion and Tales of Vespeira (2 and 3), I bought a Ps3 this year and loved it, that's not even covering how many amazing games I've played on my DS...I only really play Dissidia on my PsP but I really wanna get into Echochrome..it's just hard

I waste enough time on my PC. Adding three additional sources of distraction would prevent me from getting anything done.

Although I have considered a Wii, just for drunken multiplayer hijinks on back-catalogue games and Mario Kart, the most skill-free game in existence.
Drunken mario kart wii is a blast!! no one can stay one the track long then just criss crossing it lol

As someone who owns all the consoles, here are the problems I've encountered:

1. Which Multiplatform version to buy. My Xbox sounds like a chainsaw when I play it, I won't be able sell back any PC version (not that I intend to ever sell things but its there for some people), and the PS3 has a rough time with DLC and timing, compared to the 360.

2. Games are still expensive, even with all the consoles. With all the good games to buy, you either become very picky about what you play, or you go broke constantly trying to get all the good games.

3. Games take time. Time I have to spend working a full time job. I don't get to play games for 17 hours a day like I did during my summer vacations in college. Work is all the time, and vacations are for getting OUT of the house and going some where. Your time becomes incredibly valuable. Games that would take you a week now take 2 months. You look on your gaming shelf and see more games than you'd ever have time to beat.

Ever seen any people complain about games not being released on their gaming platform of choice? Of course you have.

The way to end the console war is simple, buy ALL consoles.
well first off...

the Cash issue.
People don't want to spend $300 to get a console to play a single game. PS3 is nice and all... but there is only 1 game on it that i want to play... and as much as i may want to play this one game, it is not worth $350 plus price tage.

Second off.
the console wars don't exist because one console has a better selection than the other. the console wars rage on simply because of the capability one system has over the other.

For instance, I wish Red Dead Redemption was Released on PC.
not because i don't own a 360 or PS3... but because with dx11, 64 bit duel core processing, and a top of the line graphics card, i know the game would run more smoothly and crisply on my PC than it would on the dx9, 32 bit single core processing, average grade GPU Xbox360 and PS3 consoles.

further more, on PC i know that i would have better access to the internet and could more easily orginise Co-op play with friends on my PC than i ever could on xbox live or PSNetwork.

and this is by no means limited to PC. players may one 360 games on PS3 because PS Network is free while Live is subscription based, while others may feel that they can more easily access friends on Live than on PSNetwork allowing them to get a game going with friends more reliably. or that with Live or PC that the game would have better support and could grow with DLC, which doesn't occur as much with PS3. the reasons are infinate.

People spend far more on other hobbies. Such as classic cars, or football season tickets. Go ahead. Treat yourself. You deserve it.

I do.

Except my PS3 is broken, and I can't really see any strong argument for replacing it.
This, except I have most of my games on PS3 (since I can't get my Xbox connected to LIVE, I end up getting games on PS3 instead).

I own all 3. Xbox for most games, PS3 for exclusives and blu-ray mostly, and wii for gimmicks and throwback classics

Hmm, I think I'm in the same situation as you. I find I get most of my use out of PS3 and PC.

PC kicks ass with the third party developers as most of them go multi-format, including PC where the PC version usually steals victory through sheer horse power, and control preference. Then there is Sony's dozens of 1st-party studios meaning so many really good PS3 exclusives to get through. Then there is preference for PS3 in free online: BF:BC, Soul Calibur 4, Army of Two I'm gonna get for PS3 for online as I just refuse to pay for XBL Gold Membership, it's a ripoff.
Then there is how so many Xbox 360 "exclusives" see a PC release like:
Gears 1, Mass Effect 1&2, L4D1&2, Metro 2033, Supreme Commander 1&2, Splinter Cell Con. and so on.

I itemise all the games I plan to buy (limit myself to 12 console games per year - have to stop somewhere) and I find only a Quarter are for 360 and they don't really get me that interested. Like Gears of War 2... I hear is pretty much like Gears 1 and I didn't like that much. Wii has a similarly meagre line-up (though many of the games do interest me much more).

Get it on the system all (or most) of your friends are playing it on.

I've skipped plenty of games I want to play, other people can too.

I have a 360 and a Wii. I never play them. Might play the Wii when Metroid: Other M comes out, or when I get Super Mario Galaxy 2.

one reason is exculsive games. I have a 360, most of the best games are out for both 360 and ps3 (I dont care about wii, it seems too kiddy), the only game I want to play on ps3 is MGS4 since Im a fan of the series (im told its the worst one though). I dont see the point, it seems like I would be spending £200 or so on hardware Im not going to use. Also I hate the shape of the ps3 controler, back in the day of the ps1 it seemed to fit(my hands where smaller though). But now its just small and uncomfy.

If I bought a PS3, I would play two games on it. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Heavy Rain. Then I would probably never play it again.

The only reason, the ONLY reason, I choose the XBOX360 over the PS3 is because it's cheaper.

I have a wii, but I've accumalated more hours on oblivion alone than my entire time spent on the wii. It's more of a 'play-with-friends' console in my opinion so it rarely gets used.
