Why so much hate for Sony?

(I searched the forums, couldn't find anything resembling it. Also, i thought twice about posting this topic, but then i thought "What the hell?" so let's get on with it. PS. woo ho! infamous scribbler!)

I admit, I'm a Sony boy i love my PS3 (need work out my Wii though). But it seems that no matter what happens, no matter What Sony does whether it be good or bad they are always attacked by anyone who thinks otherwise. Some examples would be the whole "Trophy = Achievements (but better)" thing and the "Sony late to the XMB business" and "SonyLife feature being the same as the Wii Weather and news channels". This has been going around ever since the PS3 was launched as everyone tries to nitpick at whatever Sony has planned.

My question is, why is it always Sony? I bet if the Wii actually came out with, let's say, Accomplishments then there wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Everyone would be happy, Wii owners would love it IMO. But the second the PS3 comes up with something (again IMHO) that's better than Achievements everyone goes apeshit.

Now, this is not promoting a war here, each console has pros and cons, but why specifically Sony?

I do admit, sometimes they can be annoying (Hell, we should have predicted that they would have taken down the 2.4 Firmware update, even i wasn't too surprised when that happened) but it seems that Sony gets the most shit while M$ and Nintendo get the most slack for almost everything.

They made the ps3 not our falt
they stole the achievment idea of xbox so they cant really call for that...
The wii sales are beating everthing so just because MGS4 came out for the ps3 that means nothing because in a few months no one will be playing it!!

I dislike them because Sony seem pretentious in their press conferences, and condescening to their competition.

Also, how are trophies better than Achievements?

Simple. Sony was the leader of the pack in the last console generation and wasn't shy about telling people that... because we tend to root for the underdog and not the top dog, any time they show weakness in this current generation everybody else dogpiles on 'em. Sony's habit of putting a price premium on all their products and of trying to lock users into their proprietary DRM and hardware standards doesn't help, either.

I have a PS3 and I love it I have the 360 but can't really use it because it keeps breaking in one way or another. but I do have to say a lot of Sony's products are over priced (tv's etc) and they are a bit immoral they never mentioned the sixaxis control idea until Nintendo announced the Wii, they didn't release the trophies till they discovered what a success the achievements on Xbox were (however that was more like stealing a loaf of bread from an evil baker to feed a starving family)

I like my PS3. But I think the problem most people have...and the problem I have with Sony, is that they have questionable morals. They repeatadely lied about when the PS3 would be released, mainly so hopeless fanboys could fight the urge to buy a 360 and not because it was a genuine mistake and they honestly thought they would be ready. Also the DRM rootkit malware thing really pissed me off because it is dodgy and leaves you vulnerable to viruses, and Sony don't have the right to install files onto YOUR computer that YOU can't see or access...and without your permission.

right and m$ is really nice to their competition and holds hands with them and has a weekly sing-a-long with their competitors.

and don't even get me started on Nintendo, at least the bad performance of the gamecube humbled them a bit

right and m$ is any better? they were convicted of lying about LOTS of stuff and are still being fined for it

the ps3 launch thing affected ALL blu-ray players, not just sony, it was a problem with the manufacturing, they explained it

as for the DRM issue, look at the crap m$ can do with your computer, they wanted DRM manditory on all systems, they were even pushing for their very own brand of DRM on the hardware level. Sony's DRM thing pales in comparisson to what m$ would like do with your computer

and to answer the oringal poster, it's because it's cool to bash Sony, just like it's cool to not like the new Star Wars trilogy or the new Indiana Jones movie. everyone's being unique in their hate just like everyone else

Because in their whole history in the video game market Sony's only only innovations have been dual analog stick and optical disc with hard drive storage. And those were both with PS1 (or does the Sega CD-i predate the Playstation?).

Now all they do is shamelessly copy everyone else and boast about how they and their console are the best. Also Sony has a notable lack of successful exclusives unlike Nintendo and (to a lesser degree) Microsoft.

Add to that the numerous glitches that seem to occur with every PS3 firmware update and that Sony seems to have a total lack of creativity (I'm sure we'll be using Playstations distinguished from other Playstation models by a predictably increasing number added to the end until Sony Computer Entertainment goes out of business and the aformentioned copying of innovation).

That's why the Sony hate, and I have it too. Not to say I will never buy a PS3 and enjoy some good games on it. After all, Sony didn't make any of them.

I have a 360 and a PS3 and I have to say the 360 gets way more usage and the PS3 online sucks in comparison. I know PS3 online is free, but if I have to pay for my online not to suck then I will gladly do it. Also I have the 5 Sony exclusive games that are any good already so untill they get some more exclusive good games I can't buy any games for it. If it's multiplatform I'll definately buy it on 360 just for better online.
I for one do not care about achivements or trophies I think a better part of Xbox Live for Sony to have ripped off would have been the not sucking part. It seems to me like only about 10% of the people on PSN even have mics, I feel like I'm playing the Wii or something. Maybe when Home and Socom and Killzone and Little Big Planet come out it'll be better, but right now I don't even play it.

Sony are a bunch of hypocrites.

They laughed at the 50% BC of 360 weeks before they axed the feature altogether.
They called the Wii a gimmick then announced SIXAXIS.
They called rumble a last-gen feature.
They criticised the number of SKU's 360 has before cancelling 20gb and 60gb.In fact they're bringing out a new PS2 right now.
They constantly criticize Xbox Live and Xbox 360 despite shamelessly copying them.Achievements and XMB anyone?
They failed to deliver 60% of their promises.

And last of all...they flipped Europe off by bringing the PS3 with a £425 price tag.

actually they also made the sound system for the SNES and they had a cd attachment made for it already but Nintendo said "no" to that and Sony said "fine we'll make our own" and the playstation was born

oh JakubK666

i think that sony had an achievement thing before the live one, ratchet and clank definately had skill points and i'm pretty sure other games had it before then, so sorry but that's a fail on Sony copying, m$ copied :)

oh and another big fail is the axing of backwards compat on the ps3, it's only the 40 gig one that doesn't have it, seriously do your homework work before trying to spew m$ fud

Unless they retract thier patent of a handheld gaming device with a touch screen, I'm going with they were bastards in stealing and modifying a prototype of a NES disc system, they're a bastard now that they're stealing Nintendo's well established touch screen system.

Its more the fact that they keep presenting the public with bad design choices and the general opinion of "Well we felt like designing it like this, so you're going to have to put up with it". This is true of pretty much everything though. Their computers are good "technically", but you have to put up with third rate pieces of software, or the fact that some old Sony MP3 players would only work on a Sony brand computer, or the memory stick, or the connectors on the digital cameras, or the ATRAC format, the RootKit problem, the list goes on, but I'm tired of expanding on it

Proprietary is the best comment to describe Sony. They make stuff so that you have to buy more of their gear just to use it. And on the topic of the PS3 they just seem to be behind, constantly trying to play catch up, to which they have finally done, but its two years late.

Finally, one thing that is really annoying is the shameless bullying, and other tactics used to get the Blue Ray ahead of HD. But there are enough rants on the difference between the two so i'll just leave it at that. But that's a whole load of reasons.

In their defence, they do make some brilliant LCD TV's, and very nice cameras, even if they are overpriced. And finally, the cell processor is one of the best developments of this decade in processing technology.

Well, I have the advantage of being able to own all three consoles and here is my ranking for each:

1)XBOX 360
This system has had better online gameplay since the first XBOX compared to the PS3 and PS2. PS3 online is free, as well it should be. I played Resistance: Fall of Man online one week after release and it was already pratically dead. The games I did find no-one had a mic because it seems Sony wants you to spend the money first while Microsoft encourages online play and includes a mic with the 360. The 360 also had a few good first titles with it's release to draw in players. I will say, however, that the back compatability is terrible because it's selective and the PS3 wins there. I personally have the HD-Drive for the 360 and notice that HD is better than Blu-Ray, but was not promoted as much and therefore no more HD-DVDs will be manufactured, but I don't see it as a waste of money since I get to enjoy many titles people with Blu-Ray players will have to wait for, if they ever get to experience them at all.

2)PlayStation 3
The PlayStation 3. For a system that was in the works for so many years, according to Sony, the game range was terrible and is still lackluster at best, with many titles going cross platform. This in my opinion is the biggest flaw of the PS3 since the past systems have demonstrated unique and broad game range and not just remaking the same game eight different ways. All those years the game design teams could have been toiling away on new ideas for the PS3 and it could have a great game range under it's belt on release or shortly after.

3)The Nintendo Wii
The Wii is an entertaing console, but I never have been a huge fan of Nintendo. The controls on just about every system have been awkward on every system. I look back to the Gamecube for reference to bad controls. My God, what a cluster-f*** of s***. Quite possibly the worst controller ever. It still seems Nintendo is appealing to the small child audience the most and has not expanded it's horizons at all. Red Steel was probably the most violent game so far for the Wii and made interesting use of the Wii-mote, but it was put into a terrible game.

In response to the original post, the reason Sony gets most of the bashing is because every field they get into, they promise the best, but can't deliver. My dad works in high-end electronics and so his company was invited to a conference held by Sony to demonstrate the Blu-Ray player; it broke. The damn thing wouldn't work. The PS3 on it's own had a similar problem and after years of delay, it just doesn't seem that well worth it. That's why they get the critisizm.

If Sony put out even half the good games that Microsoft puts out, then we might be nicer to them. But I still Love my Sony Ps3/Blu-ray player.
