Why so much hate for Sony?

I have both the 360 and PS3, both are great. I have had the 360 for 3 years and only temporarily rrod when I do dumb things like lifting it while there is a game going. The PS3 is a dust magnet but other than that no complaints in the 2 months I have had it, I too never lose wifi but then by some stroke of luck I seem to have the most stable voyager router on the planet. (Went back to her after home hub #2 set itself on fire).
Main complaint is that I only have 6 PS3 games but that's mainly because I got everything on the 360 but I'm sure I'll build up the collection as new releases come out. I am also really really looking forward to Playstation home.
The reason I am buying new duel system releases on the PS3 is because having to pay for xbox live really annoys me as does the points system - I have a maestro card and the lovely people at Microsoft do not recognize it's existence. Sony however, does. I refuse to spend £15/$30 on a points card when all I want is a £2/$4 extra and don't get me started on delivery charges. With Network I can just pay for what I want and multiplay for free.

I've only read a little bit of this thread. But I have to say that motion controls are not new to controllers, Nintendo did not create this. I had a joy stick for my Sega Genesis that was motion controlled. And there was no way in hell that Sony could have put together a working Sixaxis in the time between unveiling of it and Nintendo's Wii Remote. Sony just kept foolishly quit about it instead of leaking it the day the Wii Remote was unveiled.

Genesis? Go further back.

We called it the Power Glove, and it sucked then too.

Both systems have merits, as does the Wii. We actually have a generation where we have three healthy consoles on the market, and that's something we should all be happy about.

But you can't be, because you're young and still live at home and your dad won't buy you both systems and you have to pick a "best".

Just for the record, i buy my own games and consoles with my own money with planning, saving, working, and bar mitzvah money ;P

But i'm not sure if this count's as "motion sensing control" but the Eyetoy for the PS2 came out WAAAYY before the Wii's controller. Just like to throw that in there because i'm sure everyone forgot about that.

there's not hate for sony, but the fans of sony. to me, attaching yourself to a brand marks you as very stupid. it's games, not corporations.

The PS3 is great except for the fact that Sony really dropped the ball on exclusive titles, one of the things that made the PS2 so great in spite of inferior hardware. Sony seems to have switched gears from great software/ok hardware to great hardware/ok software. The PS3 has many useful functions aside from games, too bad thats its primary function. MGS4 is a lifeboat adrift in a sea of mediocrity, but it alone cannot make up for all the unspectacular exclusive titles.

Dude.

Power. Glove. 1980's.

It was basically Sixaxis 1.0, and it was terrible then. Go watch The Wizard.

Wait.... scratch that. Don't watch The Wizard ever.

I own both systems and play on them both, but the big difference is that I trust my ps3 while I usually give my 360 time to cool down every two-three hours.

I think that's a good summary of what's wrong with Sony. Also, they used to be on top of the console market and just tell people the way they're doing things. The fanboys don't see it but it really turns off swing customers like myself. I don't want the super hi-def experience and have to pay $500 just for the system (600 at release). I don't want a Blu-ray player. I don't want shiny. I want affordable well-made games.

I am going to go out on a limb here and think that Sony is going the way of Sega in the 90's and Atari in the 80's
You're not going out on a limb, you're going out as a quadruple amputee with down syndrome (no offense intended).

I'm not even sure how to address this, it's a pretty absurd assumption. Just because you don't want Blu-ray yet or whatever doesn't mean that Sony will just all of a sudden die out, infact the opposite is most likely going to happen because of the decision to make the PS3 a blu-ray player. It may take a while, hell it took a while for HD DVD to catch on (i'm not sure i even have an HD DVD player), but eventually blu-ray will be more successful. The same thing happend with VHS and DVDs and DVDs and HD DVDs.

I'm 15 but I have a job and enough money to buy the Wii and the Xbox360 and about 20 games for both and 10 more for the PS3.

Plus, I'm obviously going to buy a new PS2 when mine DOES die, because I can play PSX / PS2 games on it but not the PS3.
If you had the right kind of PS3 you could.

Thats just some idiot who is taking all the little things and blowing them up 100-fold.
If sony hated people so much why wouldn't they make a system that crashed as much as the Xbox360.

The XMB still can't be accessed in game
It can with the latest update (version 4.21). I don't know where you live so I don't know if you have this update yet or when you will get it if you don't.

It bothers me that more people weren't astounded by my amazing clairvoyance at being able to predict that all the really heavy proponents on either side of this "war" still lived with their parents.

Almost like they all thought it was fairly obvious.

Snide comments aside, you're missing the meat of my point, which is to take off your blinders. You're letting your precious feelings get hurt because I called you out on being a toddler and not looking at the big picture here. Sony is not altruistic, they're in this for the money just like everyone else. And they, just like Microsoft and Nintendo, have made some really, really funny mistakes. This war actually has people defending these companies when they are clearly in the wrong.

We had a console war back in my day too, but even the strongest Nintendo supporters didn't try to pretend that the Powerglove was actually awesome. Even the biggest Sega geeks were able to admit that Starfox rocked.

Kids today can't seem to surmount these things. Some XBox titles really do rock, the Wii really is a fucking blast, and the PS3 really is a good and stable platform with a decent lineup coming down the pipe. Having three good consoles out is *good* for gamers, and for the market. Much like having Guitar Hero and Rock Band really compete with each other will give us some awesome music games pretty soon. If any one system really was top dog with no competition, there would be no reason for that system to try all that hard, now would there?

Blech, ignore this comment, i'm not even sure what i said.

But this thread isn't defending anything, i'm just asking why all the hate for Sony as it seems that alot of the "kids" you mentioned are going around saying crap about Sony just for this and that.

REally, all consoles are equals, but there's always going to be someone who tries to defend their company.

While I am a kid. I actually agree with you. I just don't like it that when people find out I'm fifteen they automaticly think I'm a cheap little bastard with no money and the only reason I like the PS3 is because it's the only one I can afford.

I know the Xbox360 is actually a good system overall (Gears of War was SWEET!) but I've just grown not to trust it as much as the Sony systems because even my original PS1 still works fine if I decide to see what happens if I turn it on. Yet every Xbox360 I've ever been near has crapped out at least once.

I know everyone is in it for the money. Everybody wants to be rich.

I actually thank the Xbox and Wii (the Wii is really fun to) and every other console that came before the PS3 because if they never existed then every console today would suck compared to what they are now.

It is from the past we improve on.

I know we are lucky to have 3 good if not great consoles to choose from.
I just happen to prefer the PS3 for my own reasons.

See, that there is what we need more of. I take my hat of to you. Or I would, if I didn't look stupid in hats.

Now we need to take it one step further. Two, actually. We need the following:

1) When I point out that Sony/MS/Nintendo did x thing that was stupid, I shouldn't have to put up with ten people telling me that I'm overblowing it and their system is awesome. Big companies making mistakes is something we should all chuckle about.
2) When I point out that Sony/MS/Nintendo did x thing that was stupid, I shouldn't have to put up with ten people from the other side of the fence telling me that their console makers would never do that. Almost every mistake that one company is making now, the others have made in the past. Glass houses, and all that.

3. Connecting the PSP to PS3 is very, very fast. Connect the 2 using a USB cable and go to Remote Play under options in PS3, CLICK REGISTER DEVICE, and literally about 5 seconds later it's good to go. Not hard or slow at all.
Thats the problem,Registering doesn't work (and this was me bring it to my cousins so it could access highspeed) I'm not even going to both any more in case it tries to brick it because its hacked.

We could do a "Why so much hate for Nintendo" and a "Why so much hate for Microsoft" or even "Why so much hate for Company X" its almost impossible to name a company that people don't hate someway (exceptions are charity organizations etc.)
