So I finally finished the game "Slender: The Arrival" and I must say it was good. Not a perfect game that others people thought it would be, but not a bad game.
Nice graphics, convincing atmosphere, the new version of Slender look good and even I had some mix feelings for the story, I really liked the "big secret" of the game [I needed to cheat to find it sadly]. I rate it 7/10, but I must admit the price isn't suitable for this kind of game. Wait to get a little cheaper and then you can easily buy it and enjoy it.

However, I search to see what other users said for the game in the site GOG.
IIf the game was Slender, The users had seriously motherf*cking murdered him with the most gruesome way possible!
I am not talking about few reviews, I am talking about A MASSIVE amount of them!

Just look the link below to see what I mean:

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/slender_the_arrival

Sure, as I said the isn't a masterpiece, but I don't think it is deserve so low score.
Most of the users had put the game 1/5 starts.

Why so much hate for this game in this specific site?

EDIT: For f*ck shake, even the game "Daikatana" have a higher score than Slender!!! How is this f*cking possible!!!

It's probably a reaction to the excessive and unwarranted amount of praise the game has been getting among its (very vocal) fanbase.

That and there have been literally dozens of Slenderman games in the last year.

At a guess, probably the same reason why Mass Effect 3 for the longest time had a Metacritic user score lower than Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing [http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/big-rigs-over-the-road-racing]. It doesn't anymore, but it's less than a full point higher, too.

Ooh, or better yet, why Diablo III is .1 point LOWER than Big Rigs [http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/diablo-iii].

To put it simply, haters gonna hate. And on the internet, that generally turns into trolling and/or review-bombing.

EDIT: If Big Rigs isn't a good enough comparison, Mass Effect 3 has the same Metacritic user rating as Sonic '06 [http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/sonic-the-hedgehog], and Diablo III is almost a full point below it.

Beats me. While not as good as it could have been, The Arrival is far from terrible. It's got a great setup, builds the tension well and generally looks pretty good.

It's when the 'scary parts' actually happen that the game's flaws manifest. The 'collect X item' mechanic does not mesh well with trying to maintain that tension, and the (in my opinion) overly hard difficulty dissipates the fear each time you get caught.

But yeah, this seems like yet another exaggeration of a game's flaws.

From what I can summarize in the comments this is the same old free half hour experience with only minor improvements... I can totally understand why that would not be worth $10.
Especially when this concept has a one trick pony that everyone already experienced, and telling the same joke twice never made it better even less so when you ask money for it the second time around.

Also a good number of people are trying to even the score because Slender became Justin Beaver of youtube let's plays, everyone tried to cash in on that shit and it was plenty irritating.

Its quite possible that the average GoG gamer just didnt care for the game. Im an average GoG user and I have no interest in the game because the first one was bad and then theres the fact that IMO Slenderman has never been very interesting or scary to me. I can think of things from various mythologies that are a whole lot scarier and interesting then a featurless guy in a suit that kills kids. It also doesnt help that I know its an internet meme so that further undermines my suspension of disbelief and shatters my immersion

I think the game would be 10 times better if it just wasnt involved with Slenderman. Knowing who or what your enemy is undermines one of the core aspects of horror. Plus the first game was just jump scares, not actual horror. I dont have any reason to believe this new one is different

Something isn't right here...

Yeah, I don't really put much stock in the users on review aggregators. The few good ones get lost in the torrent of people who act like petty, spoiled children or skew the scale for laughs.

Though I don't know if I'd be able to explain away the above numbers...

Jesus Satan Almighty...
Yes, I was disappointed with Diablo 3 for some things I didn't liked, but it was a fun game.
For Diablo 3 having a lower score even from Big Rigs........................................I don't something smart to say, sorry, this is really serious....

I think it's just that the game has a very narrow niche market, so its rank will be quite low outside that niche.

Two reasons:
First the Slendermen series of games have been redone and redone without much changes to the original formula, which apparently causing a bit of a backlash.

Second YouTubers who made the original popular (*cough*pewdiepie*cough*) have attracted large hatedoms that apparently are taking it out on the games themselves.

Because Slender was incredibly overrated to begin with. It's not that scary, but it's decent for a free title. Then The Arrival came out, and everyone was over the initial buzz and saw it for what it is: a shallow collect-a-thon with predictable and repetitive scares, and now they're charging money for it.

Because it's neither good nor old. Kinda goes against the website's motto...which they barely follow anyway, but still.

Because they feel the need to counteract the possibly exaggerated praise the game has been given from its fanbase. I think it's alright, but so was the original and the original was free.

It's a simplification of what could be a good horror title.

1. Detailed environments
2. Acceptable immersion
3. Nice atmosphere.

.......But where's the gameplay? Something that draws my focus AWAY from the scares? Something that gets me invested in the world?

Amnesia has gameplay, SCP Contain Breach has at least a minimum amount of gameplay.

Slender has..... collecting, it has some notes to add background....But that becomes more collecting when it isn't really relevant to anything. You escape the monster by running away and nothing else.

People keep releasing these free first person horror games that COULD be good if they put in a decent amount of effort in story or gameplay. But Slender embodies what's wrong with them. They emphasize their gimmicks more than anything else.
