Anime is no worse than any other medium, my problems with it lie chiefly with the fanbase. Oh how the fanbase weirds me out. I went to the local anime club to check it out. Half the people were cool, the other half were just...squeaky, annoying, histrionics.

Did I mention how I hate the japanophilia and ignorant write-off of American culture that
often plagues members of the subculture?

If you're looking for American-style "gay jokes and sarcasm and more gay jokes" humor
Hey! Lookie here! The other problem is when anime is sub-par, it's really bad. It's like that annoying 12 year old that dresses in all black and likes Invader Zim way too much.

One reason I haven't seen mentioned but can really kinda bug me: the animation is sometimes cheap. I'm not saying all or even most but a lot of the time there is too much panning, too many flashbacks, and too much stillness. Sure it takes a long time to draw the stuff but sometimes it just feels like they're trying to cut corners instead of making the anime flow properly.
YES!!!! YESS!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

The fans.

Im sorry if all i like in terms of Anime was 'Ghost in the Shell', it was on cartoon network and it was damned good. There's no need to tell me i'm an uneducated heathen. Freaking bastards, ill give them bloody anime! I'll give 'em eyes almost as big as those freakish moon orbs their beloved characters endure!

*Grumbles*
Yeah, but fans are everywhere, when you think about it.

It's not restricted to Anime.

Nevertheless, I agree entirely.

So what are peoples opinions of shows like moharomatic?

Personally I like anime because I enjoy a story, doesn't have to be particularly good or refreshing just told.

Some anime that I haven't been to keen on but still watched are the ones with ridiculously long plot lines, like bleachs 5 or 6 episodes to finish a fight and finish walking down a damned hallway.

I don't hate anime

I just find that I hate the people who watch anime, and I largely refuse to watch anime just so I'm not associated with those people.

Actually Bleach generally takes 2 episodes to finish a fight (Granted I only watched to the end of the Soul Society Arc), DBZ would be a better example.
How many DBZ characters does it take to change a lightbulb? One, but it takes 6 episodes.

I didn't like DBZ that much, for the same reason Pokemon didn't appeal to me (The anime and Manga based on anime anyway) Drawn out to unbearable lengths, In pokemons case, episode formula was to samey, like watching Power Rangers.

I dislike Naruto because it's Badly written, like Harry Potter is badly written.
Also note that when DBZ was first released, it was a week between episodes.

So you'd see Goku throw 3 punches, find out he needs to train more, then next week you'd see him contemplating how to train, then the next week you'd see him start his training and get into some trouble while doing it, then the next week he'd be a little stronger, still trying to train a bit more.

So 2 months would pass, and nothing would happen.

I can only stand to watch DBZ when I have at least 4-5 episodes to watch at a sitting (it's one of the only animes that I watch)

Whatever floats your boat, some people like anime, some people don't, it's all good.
Agreed. It's not for everyone but if you like it that's OK to.

Some people hate anime for the same reason some people hate MMORPGs or Final Fantasy, etc. Everyone has different tastes.

Personally, I don't hate anime.

I hate weeaboos.

Honestly i think people saying that hey hate anime is similar to people that say they hate action movies. I mean sure most of them are exactly the same and only take place in defferent areas with different people and have the same story. Even so i find most of them completely predictable, but i still love anime (and action movies) because i just want to see exactly how the badguy using a giant explosion, kamehameha wave, katana, shoot him/her into space, etc. Or the bad guy will win and have his evil laugh just before the main character comes back to 17 times like in Dragonball.
And if you want an anime that makes fun of most animes go watch Hayate no Gotoku (Hayate the Combat Butler for people that don't believe in subs or unaltered dialogue) true its not the best show out there but its about as funny as fat guys making fun of other fat guys for being fat... which i find pretty funny.

You're probably better off for having stopped there. Felt like a good a place as any to stop the show but they had to pull a Limp Bizkit and keep on rollin', rollin', rollin'. It kinda got tired after Soul Society, though I've watched a hell of a lot more since that arc. Thankfully I've managed to shut the completionist in the back of my head up about watching every single Episode of Bleach and every single epiosode of Naruto (And Shippuden) simply because I've already watched "Some" episodes.

Don't like anime? Cool, as long as you've actually watched some. I'd recommend you watch *insert anime here* because I quite enjoyed it, but like anything else you don't have to. Blanket statements like "all anime is retarded" get you no points, but assuming you've actually watched a little and went into it with an open mind, doesn't really matter if you don't like it. I'd be surprised if you actually 'hated' it, hate's a pretty strong word for something like this. It's not as if anime wronged your family...I think.

I've always consitered the sentiment "I hate anime, because it's all about angsty prettyboys and schoolgirls with eyes like dinner plates" to be a bit strange. It's like saying "I hate American movies because they're all about big macho guys with guns and supermodels." Sure there's quite a bit of that, but if you dig deep enough you'll find your "Waiting for Guffman"

Just remember the rule of media: 90% of anything is crap.

This is misleading to say the least. The implication that voice actors get paid by the word in North America is not true. And the reason voice acting takes less time is because of the smaller investment in recording studio time and the North American practice of multiple takes for quality.
I wasn't implying that American voice actors were paid by the word, the only point I was contrasting anime and western voice acting on was the public image of the actors themselves. I was contrasting the difference in cost model for animation, where the cost depends on how much one frame varies from the last, and voice recording, where the cost is largely fixed by studio hiring and actor fees.

I don't hate anime. I just don't think it's good enough to warrent a special effort to watch it, since I'm in Oz and it is never shown on free TV.

*fanboy walks up*
"Omg, do you like American TV?! American TV is soooo cool! I like all of it! Especially the few shows that get imported over here...Well really only those ones..."
And that is why I dislike the anime craze.
Anime I neither like nor hate, just like I neither like nor hate "rock music". Of course, a lot of its common aesthetics and tropes irk me verily.

Yeah I think it's been said before and i'll say it again for effect. I not "against" anime per say but largly the western fans who defend it and compare it to classic works like "nineteen eightyfour" in reguards to the depth of story (yeah somebody actually went there once and on that day i discovered i wasn't psychic because try as i might, i could not kill that person with my mind) Seriously people spouting praise for anime like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
They're kids shows for christ sake it's like comparing teletubbies to the godfather! They treat me like i'm some kind of moron for not watching some random anime series where the school girls all wear insanely short skirts and scream all the time, yet when i ask them what books they've read for example they look at me like i just fell of the short bus!
Their insistance that i pronouce anime as "an-knee-may" i really couldn't care less if thats the proper pronounciation in fact i'm going to keep saying it my way now as i know is annoys you so much! *takes breath*
But not all anime is bad liked "akira" and "ghost in shell" and quite like "cowboy beebop" as well but i don't watch kids show and it's does make a difference if it from my country or from somewhere else in the world, it's still a kids show it not written with you in mind and it's hardly the greatest writing in the world try picking up a classic novel sometime you think the latest episode of nauruto has a great story!
As for Hentai that stuff i'm sorry but i simply do not get in the slightest and in this country that stuff can get you put on the sex offender register as it is classed as child pornography and i pretty much stand by that.
