I like how it is left leaning, I can always count on the Escapist forums for an intelligent political argument.

I joined because I need somewhere to hang for the moment. It seemed delightfully clean of religious zeal and self-righteousness. Been lurking for a month now before I signed up. I like being able to comment on what you people say. Even if I am still just a worthless newbie.

I came for Zero Punctuation.
I stayed for the banter.

At least these forums aren't afraid to get into politics and things that other forums avoid. Probably because people don't rage against each other as much as some.

Why? Why? Why!?
Because there was a shiny register button, I had to click it. Once I had clicked it was just rude not to post. Once I posted I responded to a response. Now I'm trapped in a cycle of making points, then responding to whomsoever makes counter arguments.

Why the Escapist? ...

*Pictures other worldly distopia where all humanity has been destroyed and every building is inexplicably on fire.* The zombie things from I Am Legend stalk the ground feasting on the brains of the intelligent or, worse, converting them to the horde. The sky is a black slick devoid of hope and stained the color of misery. A shout is heard.

A single zombie abomination points at him, wailing incomprehensable ululations as the flesh of the fallen drops from his mouth. In a single motion the horde is upon him, chasing him, thirsting for his blood. "NEWB!!! PWNZORZS!!! ROFLCOPTER!!!" they scream at the single fleeing man.

But they are too many. They move too fast. The man is cornered, captured! At the mercy of a barbarian bloodlust and the horrors of the hoard.

The menacing monsters bludgeon the poor man and beat him to within an inch of his life. After hours the crowd grows board of the slaughter and wanders off in search of fresher meat. As they depart they whisper to the poor wounded man huddled on the ground holding his legs next to his chest: "Pwned Nub".

The man remains as the crowd departs. He stays huddled there for hours, days, waiting for some sign from fate that everything would be alright. That really ... life was just.

A golden silhoutte fell from the roof top of a building, cape fluttering in the wind. A hero! A vigilante! Someone who would understand his plight!

"Please." The man begged through peirced lungs. "Please ... help."

The golden avenger approached the man and kneeled before him. Inspecting his corpse. "Yeah," he spoke with riteous boredom "I saw everything. Don't worry, if they do it again I'll send them a warning."

*fades back into present times*

... The RP section. I guess.

Your.Name.Here still hasn't been permibanned and all he's done is insult people.
Remember, there's a lot more of you than there are mods, and you guys can sure crank out a pile of posts - more than can reasonably be expected to be monitored in a real-time basis. This is why the Report function is so important. Think of it as calling in an airstrike: sure we've got planes orbiting, but mark the target with smoke and we're more likely to spot it.
I'm pretty sure quite a few of us reported him calling me a "wack-job" and a *****.
What did that amount to? Three days or something.
Yeah, he'll probably be back around in a day or two to try to sabotage my thread.

That sucks..... There are times that I wish the mods were omnipotent, omniscient beings. Then people could be banned the instant they created those ignorant posts.

Honestly, I've never gotten into forums quite as much as I would've liked. Currently, I'm an English major and I figure a message board is a great outlet for me to talk about games and whatnot and still get to write for enjoyment. My question is this: why do you enjoy posting on the Escapist forums?

My reasoning might be silly, but the emphasis on grammar touched the grammar Nazi in me so that was probably one of the biggest pulls. That and from most of the posts I've seen on other forums, this strikes me as the most intelligent crowd.
"why do you enjoy posting on the Escapist forums?"

Im not sure I post out of joy on this board. I "like" this place for what it could be and not for what it is. I have posted here out of little more than whimsy.

I see a lot of intelligent people here but very few wise ones. I see a real passion for gaming and a willingness to create change.

Then I see an inability to disguish the lines of game and story. Skill and mechanic. Player and premise.

Worst of all I see an unwillingness to draw the lines that would disguish them.

And why would there be? In our current state of gaming we have the focus of developing story through gameplay. Bigger and better things on the horizon. Its a wonderful concept well ahead of its time. It doesnt work.

The greater the introduction of story into gameplay, the more confined the outcome of said gameplay is towards the conclusions of the story. Designers of course are no more foolish than the rest of us so they proceed with mulitple story branches for the gameplay to extend itself towards, complete with alternate endings. This only further confines the gameplay to story, difference being that now the story is diveded and giving the illusion of depth. Gameplay essentially becomes auxiliary to story structure no matter how divided. Both Portal and World of Warcraft suffer the same restraint.

I dont believe video gaming will grow untill story becomes a byproduct of play. I believe mechanic should be created to facilitate ability and imagination.

I think players should be distinguishable from each other and particularly from their circumstances.

I hate what video games have begat and everyone that refuses to see what they now are

Oh, that and the sheer fantacularity of it all. Once you hit Pulitzer Laureate you CAN, in fact, make up words like that.
I know what you mean my heturecal friend.
I'm assuming that was a made-up word, cause, well, you're only exercising your right. You're a Pulitzer Laureate.

Because I think the average intelligence excluding any member with >50 posts is about 30% higher than the people I deal with in person. Not tomention the lack of lolspeak, flamers, trolls, and shockposters. Could deal with a bit more lolcat though*.

I cam ethrough ZP, as I genuinely enjoyed it, and initially though thats what escapist was. yes laugh at the old me. Anyway I realised there was more, but never really looked into it. I emulate to the best of my ability how everyone else speaks, on here so, I'm glad I'm not reguarded as a "literate fag" for being able to spell words correctly about half the time.

I stay here, because I like it. I like the personalities on here. I recognise people, and I can generally tell the big posters simply by avatar. And everyone here aside from the occasional troll is well excellent.

*does not actually need more lolcat, I can get more lolcat else where.

I followed a link to the site over a year ago but only now started posting.

I like to wait and analyse the personalities and previous posts of all the forum regulars before I post, it means that I can predict and counter their responses.
