Ok first and foremost.
I am not invoking Halo Fanboyism, trying to start some massive flame war or anything like that.

Why does everyone hate Halo 3? I personally have loved all 3 of the Halo games (yet to play Halo Wars). I just cant see what was better about Halo 1, I think they are both basically identical. They are all great and are all almost the exact same game.

So again I ask, Why the hate towards Halo 3?

Yaaaaaargh!

On topic though, before this thread degenerates: It's partly to do with the popularity of the series which makes it edgy to hate.

Halo 3 wasn't bad just think times have moved on and people would rather play the call of duty games then the halo games, not saying that halo is boring, it's acctually really fun, I am one of those people that think the original Halo was far superior than halo 3 for reasons that go with most franchises of games, the original will always be better because it is a brand new idea and can be taken anywhere, sure it didn't have multiplayer, but it had a kick ass stoory line and an awesome single player campaign

A) Use the search bar
B) Don't make threads about Halo 3. They either end bad or end up locked.
C) There are a number of reasons Halo 3 is hated. It's not a bad game, but it gets a pretty bad reputation for it's obnoxious fanbase.

Naughty

Although if you want to know, it's most probably due to the series being revered as godly.

I thought Halo 3 was good, but the multiplayer was overhyped in my opinion. The maps were generic and unintuitive in my opinion. Then again, I haven't downloaded all the map packs so maybe they got better with time, but odds are I'd still be thrown in matches in that Snow level, the multilevel one, or that take off of the Halo 2 map. To me, Halo 2 was the best of the series, especially as far as maps were concerned.

I don't hate Halo 3, rather, i hate the people that for some reason hold it up as the pinnacle of First Person Shooters.

Having played games such as Half-Life 2(which, let's be honest, any self respecting gamer should have, if only once), i just cannot understand what the big deal is.

The controls?
The story?
The weapons, the multiplayer, the levels, the puzzles, the characters, the maps?

WHAT?!

And yet for some reason you can go to any gaming forum, and ask 'What are the best FPS' ever made', and your bound to run into someone saying Halo 3 within about 10 seconds.

When average games like Halo 3 sell better then games like Psychonauts or No More Heroes, it just pisses me off because this brings across a message that us gamers don't want style, innovation, or refreshing ideas. No, we just want mediocre graphics and gameplay with a tacked on multyplayer.

I...sigh... I can't take it anymore! These threads must end! *Self-destruct*

Oh, I just didn't like the sequels. Halo 2's campaign was meh, multiplayer was fine but as someone said I'm not judging half a game. Or something along the lines of that.

Halo 3 was more of the same, just upscaled graphics.

Halo: CE is the only one I will play, unless a mass crowd of credible people insist that Halo: ODST/Recon is worth the cash.
...
Then I'll RENT it and determine if it's worthy. :D

Halo 3 was just a not that good game.

The gameplay was fine, if a little uninspired, the weapons and whatever worked without too many glaring issues and the multiplayer capabilities are among the best in the world for the genre.

The main problem with the game is that the storyline and single player can go to hell.

It's too short, too generic and just not worth a damn.

That said, the multiplayer is genuinely good and plenty of fun when playing with people of matched skill levels.

i think the reason people hated Halo, or the back fire hype was just the AI issues and the incredibly short campaign....
but in my opinion, its the AI. i despise the AI... grrr...

I have only played halo one, if only for the right to hate the series with evidence of having been exposed to it, and I found that I was completely right to despise it prematurely. I discovered that the entire game is built on repetition, which is what led me to dislike half life 1. And the level design is painfully lazy, on more than one occasion I found myself fighting through identical rooms connected by identical bridges. Then found myself going through these rooms again in reverse order with a fresh new batch of aliens to hold down the fire button at. ARRGH.

The warthog was made pointless by my allies stupidity, the banshee plane... thing, was used twice on the whole game, often for about six seconds before more damn copy pasted corridors.
The story was ok, but nothing special, anybody could have come up with it.

And on top of this all people tell me halo 3 is better, and then I look at halo 3 and find it like looking into a history account of halo 1 without quite so much copy pasted delights, but more disgusting fan boys. So I think ill keep playing half life 2, crysis, and all the other alternatives to this pathetic bland and overrated series.

Because some people find it hard to accept that Halo reinvented console shooters, just like Uno reinvented console card games.

Wait, what are we talking about? Oh, right.
I think it's generally disliked because, as hard as it is for them to admit it, Half Life fans want "their game" to be better. The fanbase is typically more mature, it is less obviously marketed to adolescent males, and it can has physics. All signs point to Half Life's superiority, so let's bash Halo 3 and everyone that plays it!

It was fine, it got boring.

I'd play the multiplayer if I weren't besieged by racist 10 year olds every time I plug in a headset.

Funny because especially on Escapist the Halo haters are WAAAAAAAY more obnoxious then Halo supporters. They are all three good games, period. Not everyone likes everything though so obviously not everyone likes Halo. It definitely has become to cool thing on the internetz to hate Halo. You even get more internetz points if you say you love Half-Life 2. (even if you really only played it like once 5 years ago, but nobody knows that!) In my personal opinion you compare the first Halo to Half-Life 2 and it did everything better then HL did. But god forbid someone on the Escapist considers HL2 to not be the Jesus Christ of games.

It's just too fucking shiny.

But honestly, I really like Halo 3. I'm not a massive FPS nut by any means, but I put a lot of hours into Halo 3's multiplayer. It kept me coming back to it, which is something a lot of it's rivals couldn't do. And the single player doesn't deserve the shit it gets. It's a similar experience you'd get to any popular FPS... a short series of pretty levels with big setpieces. Same idea as the campaigns in Call Of Duty, Killzone, Resistance, whatever. Hell, I probably enjoyed the Halo singleplayer more than the campaigns in any of those games.

We shouldn't hate Halo just because of it's admittedly annoying fanbase. If we all hated things just because their fans are complete ballbags, no one would like metal.

1. Why state an opinion as fact?
2. Bandwagons, everyone rides one.

I didn't. I said "They are all good games, period". Thats my opinion. I don't have to say "In my opinion they are all good games, period" to make it an opinion. lol

Wow...just wow.

Opinion be damned, that is just having a shit sense of taste.

Halo did 1 thing, and one thing only, and that is good controls for a console FPS.
But guess what, Goldeneye did that. Soldier of Fortune(Dreamcast version) did that too.

What did Halo do? Nothing.
It's multiplayer is pretty much UT without the alternate fire on weapons.
The campaign was full of copypasted levels. The story was non-existent.

If you're going to make such a radical claim, you'd better back it up.
