This has been done to death, Halo 3 is really old now why do these opinions even still flare up?

Also as a side note, since the time that Halo 3 has been out I have never met a single person who 'hates' Halo 3... I have met many people who were generally underwhelmed by it.

Funny because especially on Escapist the Halo haters are WAAAAAAAY more obnoxious then Halo supporters. They are all three good games, period. Not everyone likes everything though so obviously not everyone likes Halo. It definitely has become to cool thing on the internetz to hate Halo. You even get more internetz points if you say you love Half-Life 2. (even if you really only played it like once 5 years ago, but nobody knows that!) In my personal opinion you compare the first Halo to Half-Life 2 and it did everything better then HL did. But god forbid someone on the Escapist considers HL2 to not be the Jesus Christ of games.
1. Why state an opinion as fact?
2. Bandwagons, everyone rides one.
I didn't. I said "They are all good games, period". Thats my opinion. I don't have to say "In my opinion they are all good games, period" to make it an opinion. lol
Uh... right... but the way you---...
Moving on.

My hate for Halo 3 started when I realised I could play Halo 2 online on my 360. I did so, did what I got to do, and started playing. After awhile I learned the horrid truth that most of the people I was playing with and against...were false fans. Most never played the first and alot did not even play Halo 2's campaign! I have hated them ever since. (Halo's online community)
The story started to lack after one, but still was good, but the 'fans' ruined Halo 2 and 3 for me, as well as Halo 3 being treated as one of the trinity of false great games ever. (Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty 4)

Wow...just wow.

Opinion be damned, that is just having a shit sense of taste.

Halo did 1 thing, and one thing only, and that is good controls for a console FPS.
But guess what, Goldeneye did that. Soldier of Fortune(Dreamcast version) did that too.

What did Halo do? Nothing.
It's multiplayer is pretty much UT without the alternate fire on weapons.
The campaign was full of copypasted levels. The story was non-existent.

If you're going to make such a radical claim, you'd better back it up.
I don't have to back anything up. I LIKED how Halo 1 did everything, story, multiplayer, weapons, more then HL:2 did. Millions upon millions agree with me too. Double or triple the amount of people who agree with you in fact. IT IS MY OPINION. I don't give a rats ass who agrees with me and I'm not trying to persuade anyone else to agree with me. You see thats what makes opinions great. They cannot be proven or disproven. You can either agree or disagree with an opinion.

i've not played Halo 3(well, have once multiplayer, 4 player splitscreen) so my opinion here is only based on the PC versions of 1 and 2, but the reasons are:

Very bland graphics(altho apparently Halo 3 is better on this point)

Although the games do play very smoothly and nicely and pull you in they feel kind of like a shooter for kids, i'm not sure why. Just like something about them makes me feel like i should like Dragon Ball Z if i play Halo

I've never played the games multiplayer besides the 3rd and it was alright but not all its meant to be cracked up to be. Further more i prefer games with a "epic" singleplayer story to have superb singleplayer rather than better multiplayer

That being said, i can't really fault the story of Halo it seems good

Repetitive combat: The enemies all seemed very much the same with predictable AI. In fact there wasn't much variety until the first flood(then my opinion changed tbf lol)

Aaack! Halo threads, they always end up in flame wars, no matter how hard you try.

But yeah, I agree with this guy. I'm sure Halo does have its horrible fanboys, but there are certainly more people who rag on it to be cool than there are fanboys, at least in my experience. It irritates me how people paint anyone who likes Halo and tries to defend it from unfair nu-Yahtzee bashers as a fanboy, when all they've really done is use vague blanket criticisms like "it's unoriginal and mediocre" (which really tells you nothing about why they don't like the game). To put this into perspective, these alleged Halo fanboys who everyone always points to as a reason for the game sucking pale in comparison to the fanboy bile spewed by the Killzone fanboys when Edge dared to give it 7/10, yet it is always Halo who suffers the finger-pointing, years after release.

Oh, and just an aside, Halo got 10/10 from Edge, and regardless of whether you agree with the score or not, any game that gets 10/10 from Edge is a good game, and that's all there is to it.

You're right. You don't have to back up anything you say.

You still should however, to avoid sounding like a douche.

I also love how you can pull numbers out of your ass.

Here´s my opinion:

Halo's arsenal, consisting of an assault rifle, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, a pistol and a rocket launcher. Boy.....that's never been done before....

Halo's story, aliens have invaded Earth. I must admit, the semi-twist with the Flood and Halo did pull me in, so i'll give credit where it is due.

Multiplayer, just make an UT server and shut off the alternate fire and you've got Halo's multiplayer.

But, since we're making shit up and acting like total douche anyway:
DooM is the best FPS game ever, it did everything better then Halo or Half-Life. The weapons were better, and the story was better then anything else.
And a millionbillion people agree with me.

Everybody hates anything that's popular in order to appear edgey and cool, really.

I'm perhaps the only person I know that loves the single player but doesn't like the multiplayer. Perhaps it's because I love the books, a cool blend of a few famous sci-fi novels that doesn't feel unoringinal. The AI makes every encounter feel different, theres at least 5 ways you can take the first Scarab battle for example.

The multiplayer is way too repetitive imo, the Battle Rifle is the only weapon used period. I prefer TF2.

*sigh*

Ok, normally I hate these threads, but as a Halo fan myself, I need to contribute a bit to this in order to make people see not all Halo fans are foaming at the mouth.

You said you think the original Halo and Halo 3 are identical. Other than the basic concept of being a "first person shooter" and the same characters and it being a continued story, it is not. At all. And in all honesty, any expert could see that the level design quality and the story (progression and content) is much, much better in the first. Not to mention the Assault Rifle doesn't sound like a fucking pop-gun.

To make sure you realize, I'm an enourmous Halo fan. Read all the books, read the graphic novel, trying to track down all the comics, looking forward to ODST, Reach, the Anime, and if it ever gets made, the movie. But there is something I will openly admit.

Compared to Combat Evolved and 2, Halo 3 sucks. In and of itself, it's a mediocre shooter, but when compared to its prequels, the game just can't hold its own weight. And it's a fucking shame.

You said it. That's the problem, it's identical to the previous games. Who wants to play the same game over and over? I say, bring some innovation, Bungie. Yes, you innovated with the first game, everybody noticed, but make room for the next innovation.

The game wasn't bad in itself, just a copy and paste, and it wasn't as great as the hype made us believe.

Also, I think we've had enough of the Halo threads.

Argh. This is why I think people should have a post-count of at least 400 before being allowed to start threads..

Cuz it's overhyped and not very original in terms of story nor innovative in terms of gameplay.

It's not Halo 3 I hate, it's the fact that a lot of people I know seem to hold this mediocre game as the epitomy of what a good FPS should be. The game itself, though not not horrible, is not that good.

I don't have to look at a chart or sales figures to tell me Halo's fanbase is MUCH, MUCH larger then Half-Life's, common sense tells me that. Common sense would also tell me that there are indeed millions of more people who like Halo then those who like Half-Life, PROBABLY double or triple the amount of people. Is that saying antyhing bad about Half-Life? No, of course it doesn't. It just means that yes more people would agree with me then would agree with you. And I said that because you say I have "shit" taste. Well then I guess all those people do to. But of course you'll say "yes they all have shit taste" because your right and I'm wrong. (again we see the beauty of an opinion at work)

Now why would I waste my time describing the game and why I like it better then HL when it will achieve absolutely nothing. I certainly won't convince you. So I won't. If Halo sucks is your opinion thats fine and dandy I'm not going to attack you for having that opinion. I don't think and have never said "Halo is t3h b3st3st gAmeZ eVERZ!!!". I also never said anything bad about Half-Life. Both series' are great I simply like one over the other.

As far as sounding like a douche goes, oh well. Like I care what some random person over a videogame forum thinks of me. /cry

It's not that the game itself is bad. It's just that I'm a Halo 1 fanboy. I hated what 2+3 did to the series. The taking away of your health bar in 2+3 made the game itself too easy, the storyline sucks, the endings are stupid and in various ways anti-climactic and predictable, the core focus on its multiplayer is idiotic, the amount of fanboyism v realistic reviewing is pure and simple annoying, and finally: the online players. I don't hate all of them, but there is a good majority of them that I don't care for.

TL;DR: I don't hate the Halo series, just what people have done to it.
