Cod4 was praised for being a realistric portayal of modern warefare, and it had the same health system as Mw2. But then again, people are only complaining about it now.
Alright, it's a minor nitpick on my part. But CoD4 was at least somewhat serious in it's tone.
I agree with that, but Mw2 was still a fun experience. The US missions still hold that gritty realistic warfare aspect of it (well, the feeling, not the gameplay). But like the first it was focused too much on SAS missions. I would've loved to see of seen more American missions, like the bridge level that was in Spec Ops, why was that not in the main game?
Perhaps they couldn't find a way to fit it into the main story, because I think it's set on a real bridge (forget the location and the name of it though).
We go fro being in Afghanistan to Virginia instantly, they could have made it into the story.
But there is no need for it to be in there either. I haven't played the campaign since the game came out (I borrowed my cousin's copy) so the story is a bit hazy to me at the moment.

It is only because you do not have extensive experience playing FPS games that you find MW2 enjoyable. The people with half-beards growing on their sleep deprived bodies will be the ones that cast MW2 aside as garbage.

Seriously though, most people myself included, hate it because of the PC port. Either it was malicious or it was the laziest port OF ALL TIME.
I have the PC version and I prefer it to my friends 360 version and PC ports have been SIGNIFICANTLY shittier than this one. Also I disagree with the "experienced gamers say it's shit" approach. And what games are better, bearing in mind that people who say doom are all retarded.

tbh I missed out on the hype which is what usually rages people. all in all it was exciting and interesting and moderately challenging (I only did it on regular difficulty)

Ironically, most of the people who lash out against the game online probably own at least two copies.
Because, according to the internet, you can't really get upset about something unless you have at least two copies. Heads firmly glued into those blinkers is our internet, oh yus.

I actually really enjoyed it. . . especially the spec-ops missions - I played them with my old flatmate and it was a great way to re-live our old co-op matches now we live elsewhere. the story itself was a pretty good romp, though nowhere near as gritty and tom clancy as the first game - 'twas a bit too americanised and "HOO RAH LETS SAVE APPLE SAM AND UNCLE PIE. LOOK HOW AMAZING WE ARE" - and the SAS were nowhere to be seen (i am a scot) - the story was, i guess, on a grand scale rather than the more human scale of the first. . . bit too futuristic for my tastes too. hmm.

multiplayer is a bit. . . *eh* so far. . . I'd much prefer epic matches, going out in a blaze of glory etc etc, dying a lot, killing a lot, rather than not seeing a soul for 5 minutes then dying to some 1337-skilled teenager. . .

and IMO they took the bridge out because it was identical to the finale in L4D2. IDENTICAL.

I had no problem with the silly, unrealistic missions or the ending.

Sure, it could have been a bit longer but the game's pacing was really well done and it was a wonderfully OTT fun advaenture.

The multiplayer does piss me off a lot but most of the time it isn't the game's fault, more the community or not having host.

I wouldnt say i hate the game im more indifferent to it. Tried it at a friends place and got through the entire campaign in less than 4 hours and im not even good at FPS games. So i asked how much it costed and it costs 50euro whoopie paying 50 euro for a game wich i would only play once to get through the single player campaign with no singleplayer replay value seeing as it will be the same every time.

Also the odd part of the game was gunning down unarmed civilians bit controversial but nothing special as a whole the thing with gunning down unarmed civilians have been done b4 even though that game never was as pretty as MW2

It costs 60 dollars and it doesn't even offer half the options of Modern Warfare 1. The multiplayer is also very laggy, there's loads of hackers running rampant and unbalanced weapons.

Seemingly because it's the new mainstream FPS thing with a multiplayer focus and plenty of hype that everyone thinks it's cool to hate. Plus it's a sequel, so there's plenty of comparison and bitching about how it's not as good as the first one and it's a sell out and crap like that.

I personally love the game, but I do know it has its flaws:

The campaign is relatively short (though a great experience while it lasts!)

Spec Ops isn't nearly as fun as when playing with a friend

I often get lag or lost connection in multiplayer matches

That's not really true at all. I could give a shit less about the multiplayer in it because I have Team Fortress 2 to fill that void, but despite it being on the short side and not making a ton of sense, the campaign was full of awesome visuals, unique set pieces, and a paper thin plot (told like it was the most epic thing ever).

I genuinely enjoyed the campaign. In fact, it was probably the most enjoyable fps campaign I've played all year long.

Side note; For all my dislike of the Michael Bay approach in movies I do feel like it works well in games.

edit-Been playing fps games since wolfenstein came out. fyi.

I ask this because I really want to try and get my head around this.
1. The treatment of PC as a platform was abysmal, offering no dedicated server support (multiplayer standard for the PC) and replacing it with an inferior option. Also, openly stating they don't want modding on their game (another staple of PC gaming).

2. Sort singleplayer campaign. Many people preffer SP over MP and this game fails to deliver for them.

3. Derivative FPS gameplay. I mean no offense, but if you started gaming this generation then I'm sure Halo 3 and MW2 seem awesome, just as Oblivion seems like the best RPG ever to people who started gaming around the time it came out. However, it has all been done before, much better and MW2 isn't particularly good in any way. It's mediocre at best, especially considering the resources it had.

4. Rampant hacking, even on consoles. Also, slow response time from devs in fixing all the exploits and hacks.

5. No Russian controversy. IW was trying to piss people off on purpose with this. On one hand, it's free publicity, but on the other it's also bad publicity.

Basically, an unspectacular game mired in controversy, focused on multiplayer, but with poor support for it.

It's definitely not a shit game but I can understand the hate. Most of it from taking out useful and even for some people, needed features to improve the online experience. Also from what I here, the single player is very very short and not worth the money.

Think about it.

Why do you actually play the multiplayer???

You're playing just to perpetuate it. To get the rewards that bring other rewards or cosmetic upgrades. You're leveling up because Infinity Ward is telling you to. It's not that great of a FUN multiplayer, as say L4D is.

It's Counter Strike syndrome.

3) I, personally, don't like it because of it's additude. People call it "realistic representation of modern warfare", but it's really just a popcorn action flick. This game is not realistic in departments of:
Who says that? I've yet to meet anyone who's ever said that.

Anyway, I've played a fair few shooters in my time and MW2 is pretty damn good. Could be better, but the multiplayer is still as fun as it was in CoD4, if not more so. Not sure what the deal is with all the hate, probably cos of the hype. Oh and the dedicated servers thing.

well I'm yet to play it, but regardless, here's two points I already don't like about it...

1. The price - Yes that's right, I'm a tight-fisted scrooge Mcduck counting the coins in my coffers, but when it first came out it was (and in most cases, still is) being sold for £45. Now I know this is better than the original idea of selling it for £60, but I still flatly refuse to spend £45 on what is essentially a disk in a plastic box, and people who didn't feel at least a similar feeling when forking out for the game really need to look at how much disposable income they have...and give some to me!

2. The game length - Ok, so the first day MW2 came out, about 6 of my friends put facebook statuses about it...usually on the lines of 'I've just bought it, and I'm going to play it'. However, about 6 hours later, i saw posts from about 4 of them saying along the lines of 'That was an amazing game! Completed it all, and happy for having done so' Now I have played a reasonable amount of games in the past decade, at least enough to know that paying for a game...especially a £45 game (gripe gripe, coin counting etc), only to complete it in a quarter of a day would make me feel a tad ripped-off. i have had cheaper nights on the piss that have lasted much longer than 6 hours and (between forum and me) have had much more climactic ends than any video game could ever give me.

That being said, I will end up buying and playing MW2 some day, but rest assured it will be found in the pre-owned bargain bin in about 2 years time about the time i even consider buying it. :) xx
