. 3. Derivative FPS gameplay. I mean no offense, but if you started gaming this generation then I'm sure Halo 3 and MW2 seem awesome, just as Oblivion seems like the best RPG ever to people who started gaming around the time it came out. However, it has all been done before, much better and MW2 isn't particularly good in any way. It's mediocre at best, especially considering the resources it had.
And I suppose that's it really. This is the second FPS I've played properly, and I suppose it's only natural that it seems awesome to me. That said, I'm still enjoying it a lot and don't plan on stopping soon.

Because it has a four hour single player with a terrible story full of pointless and retarded plot twists. It also ends in a unsatisfying cliff-hanger. It also has unbalanced multiplayer which favours cheapness and camping over actually playing well and being balanced. The multiplayer also has a horrible community and shitty lag filled servers. Plus it's pretty much a reskin of Modern Warfare 1 adding nothing new but more unbalancing issues.

not played it.

if its as close to as good as CoD4, then its a decent shooter. all i really ask for is a decent game (a great game from time to time is nice) so saying i expect it to be decent is no problem

the problem is; i just cant live with so much hype.
this games meant to be the best thing to happen to your console since they got rid of cartridges; and as i say, if its like CoD4 then it just isnt.
people queuing up at midnight for an average game...
pft the whole think leaves me cold

Personally I tend to not enjoy things other people enjoy (most of the time). So if this is the most popular game of all time then it's probably popular because it caters towards a broad audience and knows how to please the majority of gamers out there. Which is good for money but frankly I don't see how it's better than most other FPS' that have come out in the past X years. It's a good FPS but not really good enough to make me drop $60 for it when I already own like 17 other FPS'.

it was laggy on the pc's MP
it was unbalanced
too many hackers

Reason A: It was hyped to high heaven. Both before and after release.
Reason B: After all the hype, it turned out to be mediocre. Not crap, but not awesome either.

To me it felt like something written by Tom Clancy and directed by Michael Bay. That is to say, it had more explosions then it knew what to do with, had its head firmly wedged in the Cold War, and was about as immersive as your average toenail.

- Storyline was utterly ridiculous. (And I use that word in the literal sense, as in "worthy of ridicule".)
- Gameplay was actually pretty darn fun, but they kept clogging it up with QTEs and vehicle/rail sections. This odious little habit reached its -zenith with the finale, a vehicle section closely followed by a quicktime event. Press X to win the game! That's sheer genius right there folks.
- Multiplayer is alright, but suffers from all the usual problems. Bugs, exploits, people being bastards etc etc. And of course there's the whole dedicated server business.

So yeah... basically the game suffers from a severe case of hype backlash.

Fanboyism, for one. And general consumer anger for what is essentially a big middle finger to the player. A 6-hour campaign mode is unforgivable, like Sony asking for $700 for the PS3 when it first came out.

So some of it is just tweens who've never felt the touch of a woman spouting off about how "my game can beat up your game" and some of it is very justified.

It's popular to hate popular games?
Same thing happened with Halo 3, alot of hate on the net.
WaW got alot of hate aswell, now Modern Warfare 2.
Okay, this is getting kind of old. I can't dislike a game because I played it, came out, and had a few things about it that ruined the experience for me? No, no, I have to be hating it solely because it's popular.

I am not fond of MW2. I wouldn't go as far as say I hate it, but I do dislike it. I'm a fan of stories that make me care about the characters, it makes me like the story on a higher level than just the plot. I simply can't like the characters in MW2, here's why...
The game makes it damn clear that the character you control is likely going to die. Why should I care? I mean, Roach's death would have had a lot more of an impact than it did if, say, they hadn't already killed me...twice. It's really a shame too, because Roach's death should have been the one that got a big reaction out of you to get ready for the revenge, but killing me two times before that kind of jades me to the entire idea. The game pretty much teaches you: do not grow attached to your avatar, don't get use to your name, because we're going to take it away from you in about a level. That aside, I still didn't really care for the story. It just felt like "former good guy goes bad and the real badass good guy duo from the first game go take him out." Not to mention it was short as hell. If it wasn't for a few of the over-the-top scenes that just oozed cool, I don't think I could find a single thing really redeemable about the Campaign

It's a good thing the multiplayer is moderately fun when people aren't manipulating the game or running around doing nothing but knife kills. Oh, and I find spec-ops to be pretty damn fun(if your playing with a teammate. If you aren't, you are doing it wrong).

It's a crappy FPS, there's far better examples, especially for PC. (TF2 being the one that stands to mind)

Heh. That's the reason I like the game. I've always wandered what it would be like to bring a Technu character into the FPS world. And now I know.

And it is good. xD

Highlight of my short MW2 gaming life (given my bro is the one who has the console and I moved out long ago):
Knifing a person in a building, running at the window, jumping out, hitting knife halfway across the gap to the next building and shooting forward thanks to Commando, then clearing a room thanks to Tactical Knife on the Magnum, dropping out another window to land 2 stories down behind a dude, knifing him to win the game.

Just like playing an anime.

As soon as it gets dedicated servers, I'm getting the game. It's just way too much fun playing Ninja.

[small]downloaded versions don't count as having it =P[/i]

It is only because you do not have extensive experience playing FPS games that you find MW2 enjoyable. The people with half-beards growing on their sleep deprived bodies will be the ones that cast MW2 aside as garbage.
That's not really true at all. I could give a shit less about the multiplayer in it because I have Team Fortress 2 to fill that void, but despite it being on the short side and not making a ton of sense, the campaign was full of awesome visuals, unique set pieces, and a paper thin plot (told like it was the most epic thing ever).

I genuinely enjoyed the campaign. In fact, it was probably the most enjoyable fps campaign I've played all year long.

Side note; For all my dislike of the Michael Bay approach in movies I do feel like it works well in games.

edit-Been playing fps games since wolfenstein came out. fyi.
I'd agree with that campaign bit, it really is the most fun I've had in a campaign all year. Haven't played Assassins Creed 2 or The Saboteur yet, but MW2 is like playing a hollywood blockbuster action flick. Who cares about the plot, it's visually brilliant and in a game it's major fun.

On topic, the PC port is the worst I've ever seen.

They dropped dedicated servers, then dropped the amount of people to 9v9 just like the consoles, then modding (which I really don't care about as much, it's the servers which get me), then Lean, then a few more PC features..

The PC version is basically a direct port of the console one. Which is always going to suck.

TBH it's one of the best console shooter I've ever played. Hackers everywhere and until the local area matchmaking patch it had some stupid lag, but it's still extremely fun, both single and multiplayer.

But I'm a PC gamer. So it's more annoying than fun.
