1. He's a rapper, and I dislike most rap.
2. He's cocky. Check out the YouTube video where he says he can take on anyone at any game. I would post the link, but i'm on a school computer.
3. He's overrated.

In a nut shell, pretty much this.

someone explain why the hate ?
I've only heard the one song, self-titled by his name. Source of that dance of his. I like the dance, I do NOT like the song. He's not singing. He's just talking (barely) with music.

Disclaimer: I actually DO like rap, by the way.

He's junk food.

The beat feels good, but it has no nutritional value. In fact, top physicians have concluded that over time Soulja Boy can build a plaque that hinders the brain's ability to think critically or introspectively.

Healthy Hip Hop is that which encourages its fanbase to rethink reality and question the products they're being marketed, while maintaining a good beat and lyrical flow. IMO TBH IRL KK?
You hit the nail on the head.

The reason why most popular songs got where they are is because they are eminently catchy or they "feel good". People get hooked on the beat, the chorus, or the lyrics, while not realizing that there's better stuff that doesn't get on the radio.

Ultimately, only time will make most people realize what the good stuff was; it's how Brahms, Bach, Mozart, and friends rose out of the murk of history. They survive because their music is good.

can't remember which video it was (and i dont want to), but "soulja boy" was genuinely abhorrent in his portrayal of the "nerd" desperately wanting to be like him. psst... soulja boy...? NO ONE wants to be like you!!

I listen to soulja boy simply because his music is different then all the others

who says hip hop has to follow the rules ?
thats what i like about his music it just its own category although i will admit some of his songs do piss me off but the others i like alot

like "Turn my swag on"

i think people dont like him because his music is not what people would classify as music
but music is art just like movies, painting, tatoos, games and novels

it has many different forms and many different people admiring and appreciating it
so technically he's not doing anything wrong..

Because he sucks. I can respect good rappers but the kid's a 1 hit wonder for a reason. He's not even "gangster" enough to get shot. Unfortunately.

You're right, of course, though I wasn't ragging on Soulja Boy specifically. My full experience with Soulja Boy is the lyrics of "Crank Dat", 15 seconds of "Yahh!", and that video in which he makes fun of Braid.

Just to get it out of the way, Soulja Boy has no redeeming factors. There is no reason anyone should spend money on him, or give him praise.

It's like telling the Special Children at school that they are doing a good job and should keep trying, only in that situation the mentally challenged kids are honestly trying their best to better themselves in some way and truely should keep trying even if hope of improving their situation is not great, as it is the right thing to do for their self esteem at the very least. Soulja Boy is not retarded, he is just an idiot with a blown up ego like kanye west. Though as fun as Kanye is to ridicule, some of his music is decent (if you forget the behind the scenes asshole that is the voice of a generation). People should stop encouraging soulja, I mean he really is making a fool of himself but the people around him seem to stupid to notice and let him know. He is a worthless person in general because, while entertaining some preteens with his antics, he makes the world a worse place for anyone not hard of hearing and atleast moderately intelligent. He's just another Gay Fish in a hopefully soon ending trend.

Now, that out of the way I wish to digress for a moment. More a question for the older members really.

Are todays young musicians/celebrities much worse than the young up and comers of the last generation and before (like rock and roll coming to life)? I wonder because while I assumed the older generations dissaprove of alot of youth culture, I haven't seen many direct attacks from experienced artists. But recently there has been some activity between Miley the disney brat and radiohead/jamie foxx, and soulja boy with many many many older artists. Is the disapproval greater?

I can't help but feel that the new generation of stars feels like the sun shines out of their ass and they breathe perfume and the world should love them unconditionally. Do they really feel they are more wise than people who have 20+ years on them? I cannot comprehend.

Crunk shouldn't exist if you ask me. Well, to be honest the only crunk artist I know is Soulja Boy and that's given me a pretty dim view on it.
