We knew the xbox one DRM was a fail before it was released, we knew the wii u would fail before released, we knew driveclub's PS plus 'upgrade' was a fail before release, we knew the vita would fail before it was released.
Why the f/uck are companies so blind? why are they so stupid? do they want to fail? What is their mentality Please someone help me understand. why do they need a backlash to change? are they so so stupid not to realise that everytime they do this EVEN when they reverse the policies it chips away at gamers trust leading to that inevitable AAA gaming crash
that is on the horizon (AAA not indie)
WE need a crash we want a crash its going to happen the only ones exempt will be indie developers and good luck to them!
Did we know that micro-transactions in Farmville would make more money for Zynga than World of Warcraft did for Blizzard at its peak? Hell, did we know WoW would become what it did despite being a more polished version of Everquest and Everquest was never near as lucrative? Did we know that DLC would make bank by merely offering cosmetic horse armor and not being actual expanded content? Did we know the Wii would outsell both the PS3 and the 360 combined?
Consumers are not rational, we're fickle. Hell, some people were not only defending Xbox One's DRM but were actually getting mad at consumers for not wanting to piss their rights away. (The main advantage to console gaming IMO) I am still pissed that expansion packs are a thing of the past. Now an "proper DLC/DLC done right" is basically "expansion packs" of yester year. Micro-transactions in general. We supported this stuff with our money.
Let's not kid ourselves into thinking we know what to expect from the market. No one does. If you are so sure, go ahead and 'call' what is to become of the Oculus Rift. That thing could fly or crash and burn at this point. Only time will tell.
I consider Guitar Hero/Rockband/Rocksmith, Batman Arkham, The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption all recent AAA games that showed innovation in some way and conquered the market through their success. I have a list a LOT longer with things I consider successes, but were not "financial successes" or did mediocre at best financially speaking. So no, I can't agree that the industry is failing on all fronts. COnsidering more money is being spent on games than ever before... I think you need to support your case a little better.
Right now, we are on a cusp of console generations. This is the "slow season" in gaming. It depends on your definition of "recent". Most of what you talk about in the OP is related to "cusping" console generations. This time is always rough. You called that? Good job. I did to. It's always like this. The Vita is in relation to the PS4 whether you want to see it that way or not. Plus, Sony put out a phone that rivals the Galaxy S4/S5, which isn't an easy task. Nintendo placed a poor bet IMO but it was still a safe bet. I don't have anything nice to say about Microsoft so I just won't say anything. So yeah, a new era of tech is coming into the market and mistakes are being made. What're they blind? Yes, yes they are. So are we.
