Why the internet hatred for furry?

Personally I don't have a problem with furrys but then I am not particularly Internet literate. Honestly I have to admit I find the fetish creepy and a bit too pervasive but hey, there are plenty of other fetishes out there that are honestly even creepier and I am sure that they are pervasive enough if you look in the right places. There is something about the amount of furrys you find on the internet that I think could be a problem but honestly the people themselves, from my and my friends interactions with them, are quite nice and really I don't think they all deserve the hate they tend to get.

Its because a vocal minority on the internet are immature and attack them, and a small vocal minority of furries get up in arms and yell back.

The majority of people on the net: furries and non-furries, don't really care one way or the other. However due to the vocal nature of the minority on both sides, it seems like a big deal.

All fandoms get made fun of. Thing about the furries is that, of all the various fandoms out there (trekkies, evercrack addicts, etc.), they make the biggest fuss when they're poked at.

That image looks awfully similar to the arguments for/against homosexuality. Not saying anything either way (here); just take a good look at it.

You could equally make the case that Anime/Manga fandom is a big fetish; a very good portion of anime/manga is heavy on the fan-service. Anime/Manga is even more mainstream than the furry genre. But those fans don't have nearly the stigma that furry fans do. The shear fact of the matter is that a genre can be both a normal, public fandom and a private fetish. Yes, there are people who will advertise their furry fetish; but there are people who will advertise any other fetish, too. The majority of furry fans simply express their appreciation of the genre in public while keeping their interest in the fetish side private. Moreover, just about every other fetish has a "community" in which people share their fetish with "like minds". But there isn't a public non-fetish foot-lovers community, now is there? To equate furry fandom to foot fetishism is about the equivalent of conflating Gay Rights activists with Gay Pornstars. In other words, furry fetish is a subset of furry fandom in general.

Now, I am not a Furry nor do I intend to be, but I have always wandered why there is an almost blanket hatred towards the furries even if the do not condone the 'Yiff' culture.

I know it wasn't intentional, but I got a good lol out of the first sentence being basically "I am not a furry and never will be." It doesn't say good things about a group when you preemptively feel the need to distance yourself from it.

I'd say that the biggest source of hatred is what's said in the comic: the internet can show you fetishes far more revolting on both a physical and mental scale, but furry is seemingly the only one that seems to think it deserves the same sort of protection normally reserved for groups that aren't just fetish enthusiasts. It's not an ethnicity, it's not a religion, and it's not an orientation, yet it's waltzing out in the open with the discretion of a public masturbator.

And worse, the inventors of the term 'fursecution' seem to think that it is something to be shared and proud of. Maybe you think that you're "coming out" by telling others that you're a furry, but to those people, no matter how accepting a person they may be, you just told them you like to fuck people dressed as animals. Except them to react in roughly the same way as if you'd told them you liked any other particular fringe sexual fetish.

"But it isn't the same at all!" is not and has never been a good argument. One must show definitively WHY it is not the same, and I for one remain solidly unconvinced with regards to this particular debate.

if not, i will sum it up. Generally, a furry is any anthropomorphic animal, or human with animal features, and are technically more human than animal. examples are:

Bugs bunny and most looney tunes characters, animaniacs, Ty the Tiger, starfox characters, Hobbs the tiger(is actually a plush: http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Plush), Agonians (scalies to be accurate) and Kajiits from elder scrolls, many Alice and wonderland characters, The Secret of NIMH, The Flight Of Dragons, The Last Unicorn, Brian Jacques? Redwall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Albedo, My Little Pony (count as ferals aka non-anthro), Howard the duck, Duck tales, most disney characters, etc...

the lion king is an example of feral furries (quadrupeds, instead of bipeds.) and is included in the fandom.

any animal that talks and is walking like a biped is a furry.

furry can also refer to anyone interested in furries.

Not all furries are interested in furotica, and many don't wear fursuits.
