Why the new Hitman is likely to suck.

This may be because I've never played a hitman game.... But I think it looks good. Just because it may not be as good as it's previous games, doesn't mean it won't be fun.

Either way, the game hasn't come out yet, so we'll just have to wait and see.

"47 can use his spare Instinct to fuel a few seconds of Magic Vision, which lets him anticipate patrol routes, picked out on the floor in a line of flames."
Welp, that about wraps up my interest in this game.

R.I.P. awesome Hitman series.

They've already said not all the missions would be linear. Try doing a little more research before making assumptions.

Typical fans, just want the same game over and over and over again.
No, we want the core concepts of the original game but refined and expanded upon and the plot continued from Blood Money, shit like that. That also includes keeping on the original voice cast and Jesper Kyd, the man who did the music. They are very important and without them it won't be the same.
To be fair ... the last Silent Hill game also didn't have it's original composer (if I remember correctly) and the music was still good. The same with Mass Effect 3 and Clint Mansel.

Due to this news I'll wait and read reviews first, then I'll decide to buy it or give it a pass.

I doesn't look bad... different yes, not bad.

I'd also like to point out the last mission in Blood money which was basically a massacer. :)

P.S. Magic vision? That made me laugh. Now I demmand a magician costume for 47 to slip into. :D

- Hitman was never open. Not even close to it.
- Saying cinematic experience is a marketing thing. To quote Barney "I need you to say empty, confident sounding words"
- Er, don't see any problem there. Is it that there's "only" two ways to approach something? Well, it's a fucking demonstration, they're not gonna go into every single way, that'd be ridiculous (and kinda cheapen the game experience, anyone playing it after would know all the ways of approaching it)
- There's nothing wrong with a cover system. It suits a game like this just fine.
- Haven't played Kane and Lynch, so not qualified to comment on that.
- Instinct bar is disabled with higher difficulties I believe. Also, we've just had the same shit in AC:Revelations, barely ever used it there, doubt I'll use it here.
- No one's forcing you to use Stop Time (I loved it in Alpha Protocol though, will use it here as well for fun on some playthrough). Hell, every previous Hitman game, you could get through most, if not all of it by just walking inside and killing everyone with 0 stealth. It didn't stop anyone from trying to finish the whole mission with the "Silent Assassin" score, not killing anyone but the targets. Hell, I remember doing one mission and going for the double headshot (the chinatown place) so I could look at the score table later and smile at the "bullets fired: 1, headshots: 2" ^^

I'll give it a go. I don't have tremendously high expectations, but I do expect the game to be fun, because in the very least, it's 99.99% likely to ALLOW you to go for the ultimate stealth playthrough. And that's really mostly what I look for in stealth games. All the unnecessary additions - no one is forcing you to use them. Ignore them, like you ignored the ability to waltz into any mission in previous games and massacre the whole level. Or don't - if you wanna play it like that. Either way it's up to you.

Maybe wait for a game to be released before passing judgement?
That should be the case, but the developer's statement makes speculation all too easy...

I could handle these additions being in the game, as long as you can either choose not to use them or turn them off on the HUD, the patrol routes thing I can kind of get, maybe trying to widen the demographic (to impatient people), but a fucking RADAR? Granted being able to stalk targets from the map was admittedly a bit silly, but didn't take away from the experience, but a radar thingy would just make it too easy, again if it's not removable from the HUD.

I can see what could happen, as far as I know, the Hitman series has always been a cult favourite, and considering the state of the industry it sounds a little bit like a franchise being latched on to for it's already dedicated fanbase, but then trying to appeal to mass audiences in order to boost sales; doing both at once in this case? Not likely to end well.

I hope that isn't the case.
Don't get me wrong I'm also slightly skeptical about the new game. The whole Batman vision has thrown me off. But its a new game on a new console generation so the developers are going to want to change things up a bit and it seems like they are taking some inspiration from other successful games.

My main complaint is that a lot of so called fans are now disowning the series based on interviews and trailers and not actual gameplay. We know about the new features but we don't know how these features will be implemented. Maybe it will be like LA Noire's intuition (the ability to pick the right answer or spot all of the clues seems like it would over simplify the game. But you only get to stockpile a certain amount of this ability and it takes quite abit of XP to gain more) or the features could be based previous Hitman games where greater difficulty leads to fewer saves, maybe higher difficulty will lead to fewer uses of the new features. Then again maybe they will just completely balls up the new game. We wont know until the game is released. Besides worst case scenario it can't be any worse than that godawful movie

[sub]Oh crap, low content, err[/sub]

Yeah, and another thing...

"...the man at Hitman's helm showing two very different ways to approach the same section of game"
I thought that would have been a good feature, or are people simply trying to find stuff wrong with this game now like they did with Mass Effect 3?

My reasons for thinking that are even more simple:

David Bateson isn't going to voice 47.
Vivienne McKee isn't going to voice Diana.

As a fan of the series up to this point...fuck that. Voice acting is part of what made 47 and Diana who they are. Call me a purist, but you don't make a game and call it a Hitman game without those two.
It would be like Sam Fisher without Michael Ironside, or Solid Snake without David Hayter.

Don't get me wrong, If Bateson had rejected the offer to audition then fair game, but he wanted to do it and even when he was told he had to audition for a part he had played for the previous four games which he lent his physical likeness to, he played along with their bullshit and did it then never heard from them again.

Seriously, fuck them, Bateson is too good for them.

I guess all I have to say is that the game looks great (graphically), but I'm getting the same bad feeling that I did when Ubisoft announced the new version of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Is this true? Cause if it really is then I lost a lot of respect for the guys in management.

Well i wouldn't go THAT far... 47's voice is cool but no where near as iconic as those you mentioned.

Plus 47 barely speaks anyway, so i dont see a problem. Was a bit dickish to not call the dude to tell him whats going on though.

See, i dont get this reaction like most people. What is the problem? The map did EXACTLY the same thing in all the other games. Just here it lets you keep playing. Plus its fueled by a bar, so its not like you can just wander around with it on all day like in batman.

Like Splinter Cell: Conviction it looks set to be a good game, but an appalling game for the series it's in.

Conviction was more '24' than Splinter Cell, and this looks more like Conviction than Hitman.

My only question, who the hell let IO and Tore Blystad, whoever the heck he/she is, be in charge of this let alone create such a pathetic sounding game?
What? IO is the studio that created the series and has made all the games, so I guess they themselves let them be in charge.

I felt like a badass in previous Hitman games because I was staking out the guards and waiting for them to go pee so I could punish them for their negligence. You had to stake them out, watch them closely. Adding this bullshit magic vision mechanic makes the series lose what made it stand out, even if it's limited. And yes, it all seems to want to make it more like Batman, which was automated to fuck.

The map is used for watching guards' locations, and showing their current movement, not for predicting the damn future.

Look, if you're ok with all that, I don't care. I'm just saying it loses what made the games cool for me. It becomes something else in which I, as a paying customer with the right to decide what I'm spending my dough on, am not interested in anymore. That's allowed, right? Thanks.
