I can't remember anything like that right now... 'cept that the harvester in the amgarrak DLC for DA:O on nightmare just didn't want to die... so I switched down to hard... BARELY got through with it after numerous tries.

The boss that gave me the most trouble was Ares from God of War. Well, more specifically, the Kratos clones in the second part of the fight on God Mode and Ares with his unblockable one hit kill bullshit attacks.

Dead Space's final boss was a joke, even on Impossible mode. Can you say "fully upgraded Contact Beam"?

(sonic adventure 2 battle) BIO-LIZARD it saddens me to say that I used an action replay after months of not being able to defeat him, it was the stage where he chucks out lots of sphere things and you have to jump on them.

Yeah, the fact that if you weren't fast enough they'd begin to rape you...

This or Stage 2 of Perfect Chaos. The amount of times I died trying to beat a giant water lizard is unbeliveble..

The End from Metal Gear Solid 3. The actual boss wasn't too difficult. It just took me forever to find that tricky bastard.

And maybe Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts... His health bar actually went to far, so they had to add in a shit load of invisible ones that you could not see...
I think I did a little leap of joy when I eventually managed to defeat him.
Yep this for me too! I think this was the first game I actually commentated the entire way through the fight. "Hit him! Hit him! No don't run away! Not that way! Oh you fucker!"

Also I'm ashamed to say Ultimecia in FF8. I hadn't levelled properly and got so bored with it. So bored in fact I put the game down and didn't go back to it until I completed FF9 like 2 years later. It's a secret shame as a Final Fantasy addict :(

I'm having some difficulty with the final two bosses in the Via Infinito (Paragon and Trema) in FFX-2, though admittedly they aren't so much a case of "why won't you die" as "why can't I have time to get a single hit in?", thanks to the miracle that is the Catnip accessory. They literally pull out insta-kill attacks right at the start of the battle, every time, and despite having everyone leveled to almost Level 80, with Trigger Happy Lv.3, it makes zero difference. Otherwise, pretty much every boss in the first .hack// game was like that, taking massive amounts of hits to kill. In fact, fighting the bosses for so long was the entire reason I gave up on that franchise, which was otherwise good apart from the aforementioned bosses...

And yes, I am telling this FFX-2 story here in the hopes that someone can give me a good way to win those two fights, by the way... (hint hint)
You can set up your game to auto level for you. I did this for a few hours and it let me beat the game with out too much trouble, and yeah I had to hit 100 :p

For .hack// I recommend the newer games, 'G.U.' as that doesn't happen as much (or at all), although to me I kinda of missed it.

He fucking refuses to die. It took me an hour and a half to beat this guy.

An hour and a bloody half.
there is truth here. on level fucking 100 it would still take OVER AN HOUR To beat a boss.

i think that boss just won this thread.

that thing was utter ridiculous,
I guess you haven't heard of Pandemonium Warden of FF: XI

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2008/08/pandemonium-war/

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/14/new-final-fantasy-xi-boss-could-take-24-hours-to-kill/

Of course it's been nerfed since.

of fucking course a final fantasy mmo would beat out ff 12's monster...

i hadn't heard of it but damn. fuck that. lol kinda intense video with the ramstein in the background. i was ALMOST inclined to not agree since its an mmo but anything that is that beasetly must count =\

The NYX Avatar at game's end on Persona 3: Fes is a strong runner up, and true you would think it would be the winner. But no, the reaper is something more, as it is random and can come and get you ANY time while your in tartarus if the game doesnt like you. But even Death is not the scariest or hardest boss.
That honors goes to Elizabeth! That ***** demands you use only certain attacks, and if you try to go against the "goddess'" whims, she punishes you with a 9999 damaging attack. Though it is implied she screws your character if you make the right choices, so i can forgive her for that. X3

Darkforce - Phantasy Star. Especially in the first game in that series. Every monster had a health bar except for him and it took about 10 minutes of button mashing to kill him... and hope that you were actually doing something.

Ah, I think I see your problem.

Your problem is you're playing FFX-2.
Damn, I was going to say that...

Unfourtunately, I cant name any ATM, but I kno... got one. Ridly from Super Metriod. I defeated all the bosses with no problems, even mother brain was a pushover, but Ridly, FUCKING RIDLY...

The leaders of whatever gang you're shooting in Mafia 2

It's not that they're indistructible or dangerous. They don't even have healthbars! It's just that whereas your average goon dies after two bodyshots or a headshot, THE BOSS takes like NINE headshots

Why?

No reason at all. They're not more dangerous, they're not a huge Must-Kill-Quickly threat. It just seems completley pointless and damaging to the "realism" they spend all game creating
