Why's everyone mad about no offline Diablo 3 single player?

I have a few problems with this:

1. I live in an area where I cannot get cable internet, I am paying $100/month for 1Mbps, which usually runs at 20% of that speed. IMO, if a game offers SP it should be purely SP. While it would only take me a minute or two to connect to their servers to verify my copy is legit, as with every other game available right now, this forces you to download the most recent patch before you can verify your game. Thus, I'm forced to download a 50mb file for four hours, which ties up my internet and prevents me from playing a game I have paid for. (on a side note, what if I don't want the most recent patch available? I bought the game, I should be able to play whatever version of it I want. It is not an MMO, stop making it like one.)

2. I should not have to connect once every 15 days to prove I bought a game. If this were to actually prevent people from pirating D3, then I would be all for it, but lets face it, This is going to do nothing to stop people from pirating D3.

I have always been a loyal Blizzard fan, but I will not be buying Starcraft II or Diablo 3, or any future game, which requires any form of internet verification. I have never pirated a game, never will, and I will not put up with this, regardless if I lived in an area where I could have a normal internet connection.

Edit: I didn't read all of the posts, but even if the OP is trolling it is fairly safe to say Blizzard is going to require it's users to connect to their new Battle.net, similar to Starcraft II, and there most likely will not be offline LAN as well. My points still stand.
