I know that many people find him annoying, but I don't understand all the hatred for Jar-Jar and the Phantom Menace. I think that Liam Neeson (as always) did a great job with the character he had, and while I do find Jar-Jar kinda annoying but I don't hate the character.

I know that everyone is going to have a different opinion, but maybe I'll agree with one of you.

Oh god, why did I start reading the title in his voice?

I don't hate him, but I am not much fond of him either.

The overarching problem with new Star Wars is that they, for some reason, decided that they needed to be kids movies. Jar-Jar is basically around for comedic affect--Three Stooges style physical humor that feels out of place when compared to the originals. He adds very little to the plot himself.

Jar-Jar was a completely pointless and useless character created to pander to little kids who would think he was "funny" and "cute".

Call me an abhorrent freak if you must, but I actually quite liked him. And I loved the Ewoks. Both very adorable.

Jar-jar will surely be more popular among the crowd who was 4-11 years old at the date of the movie release.

Those of us who grew up on starwars, however...

I agree with you. I think he was just the first most obvious loud thing to hate on in all the 'new'.

C3P0 was waaaaay more annoying.

Because he was a horribly written character, and like you pointed out just annoying. His presence actually pissed me off, I found each time he came into the screen I would roll my eyes as line after line forced their way out of the cinema audio into my fragile ears. It was a rape of all the senses; luckily smellovision has yet to be created.

However I must admit part of the hate you see for Jar Jar stems from just a dislike of the new films. He now represents alot of what was wrong in the new trilogy, or at least that is what alot of people likely associate with the new films. Midi-chlorians for example, I much preferred the hippy magic answer than that shit.

Name one redeemable quality he has. I dare you.
He knows where the Gungans hide!

He was a bit of an awfully stereotypical character with ADHD, still I didn't really hate him. I just think he could be killed off after a couple of minutes and no one would really care.

He is fictional :)

Or to quote my beloved Red Dwarf (watch if you haven't)

'His only redeeming feature is that he sometimes leaves the room'

I'd care! A lot! He was a nice guy!

Wrong. The main problem was that Lucas was trying to appeal to kids, while giving them a way too contrived plot for a child to understand. Jar Jar clashes with the Political tone of the films, and the lighthearted elements don't blend at all with the dark storytelling.

Wow...kinda old for a "new" topic.

Simple...

Jar-Jar is a soul less product of focus groups to make a character kids were suppost to like who spewed out the retarded one liner "HOw Wude" from Eight is enough because Lucas's kid liked it.

No he's not like R2 and C3po, kids like them, most cause they didn't cry out "LOVE ME AND BUY MY NEW TOY" like Jar Jar did. The predictable bungling helping out, the falling off his horse and blowing up the bad guys reminded me of the corperate heartlessness of Poochie the Rockin Dog from the Simpsons...and seriously should have been removed just as quickly.

As well, with the offensive Sterotypes of Japanese ect people point out... the Gungans exiled their retarded....and thats what he was. A retarded alien, the little retarded ET who could...

And only cause the writers let him...

Thankfully, Jar-Jar's presence was levelled out thanks to that awesome climactic duel where Qui-Gon rubbed shoulders with Colbert.

Shush. It happened.
