Wii U already sold out at several retailers [http://wiiudaily.com/2012/09/wii-u-sold-out-at-retailers/]

Wii U Selling out in MORE retailers [http://wiiudaily.com/2012/09/wii-u-pre-orders-sell-out/]

TL;DR: The WiiU Deluxe Edition is already sold out of Preorders at Target, Gamestop and Best Buy. Toys R Us still has them but odds are in a small capacity. The Basic Model is still available in large quantities.

Not only that, but now there's a rumor spreading around that the WiiU has already outsold the PS Vita, and this is on Pre-Orders alone.

So, what is the Escapists thoughts?

EDIT: Now it's sold out in Sears, KMart, Target, and Toys R Us. It's only available online in Wal-Mart (As Both), and Gamestop (as Basic Model only).

I assumed something else from the title, like the WiiU was going to be just as casual friendly as the Wii despite Nintendo wanting to win back the hardcore crowd. As in 'Selling out'.

But yeah. It's been ages since a new console was released, I can't say I'm surprised with it selling out so quickly.

Just about anything could outsell the vita it's not that hard.
This was my first thought .

OT. DAMMIT , not sure if i wanted to get this on launch but being hesitant made me lose the chance to choose.

Wonder how long until someone edits this gif:

with the Wii U gamepad.

OT: Well, I wonder how many lambs I'll have to sacrifice to get one by Christmas. Also, has anyone started selling ones for WAY above their RRP yet? That happened with the Wii quite a lot, wonder if it's started already for the Wii U.

"It's not really selling well at all. All of those sold units were for 'casual' gamers, not the true hardcore crowd like myself! Down with Nintendo!"
/Haterdom rant.

Real opinion. Good to see them doing so well.

You would think people would have learned by now from the Nintendo Wii...guess not. -_-
Well I know a huge number of people who enjoyed the Wii. Since when was the consensus that the Wii was a bad console?

This.

Some gamers may remember how hard it was to find a Wii on launch as well.
Pre-orders would be about the only way without waiting 3-6 months.

While this is a good start for Nintendo it says nothing about the system being a success yet.

Pretty much every piece of new hardware sells out right out of the gate these days. Not that I'm knocking the success such as it is, but it's hardly news.

I agree, I loved my Wii. I didn't think it was a bad console at all.

Back on topic though. I guess I'll have to wait awhile before I can get it because I was too slow to preorder it. Oh well, waiting won't be too bad, I didn't really need it at launch anyway.

As for my Wii I did enjoy Super Smash, Zelda and Mario Kart, I invested so much time in Super Smash alone it justified my buy by itself (according to me, my luxury income per hour along with a couple other factors) so I'm glad it's doing well, as always I'm going to wait a bit more until the games I actually want come out and then I'll probably enjoy it, fuck me, right?

That's the thing. I don't get why I keep hearing this.

Aside from the six or so 'mainstream' game news websites and 4chan, I've literally never heard of anyone not in love with the freaking thing. And no, I'm not referring to casual players, though they like it to. I also don't see whats wrong with making games I can play with my mom, dad, and my friends little cousin, while still making metroids, Donkey Kongs, Mario's, Zelda's and other such stuff.

There wasn't some horrid falling out with the Wii, nor is it's success a conspiracy. A huge portion of every single possible demographic freaking loved the thing, which is why it sold so well. What was the lesson people were supposed to learn? That nintendo acknowledges that there are people besides straight young adult men who play games?

The other consoles are great, and very impressive, but they have a shockingly narrow target audience at the end of the day. And contrary to what some gamers think, that IS a downside in terms of marketability, variety as well as creativity. Nintendo made a good balance of party games, social games, 'gateway drugs' and hardcore franchise installments for 6 years straight. Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are now some of the most critically acclaimed games ever made. They also had some decent third party games like No More Heroes and it's sequel, De Blob, Epic Mickey, etc...It's not exactly surprising that they were successful.

I also can't stop playing Xenoblade. Someone help me.
