It will improve it ,yea, but completely fuck up the story.
But being able to play as a werewolf makes it up a bit.
How exactly will it screw up the story?

I don't think they will replace the game world, I think Cataclysm will kick in when players reach a certain level, in the same way as Outland is geared for lvl 58 players upwards.
I expect there to be some kind of in game event leading up to the expansion and perhaps some areas will change forever (ala Eastern Kingdoms) but I would think the starter areas will remain the same.
No. This was explained at blizzcon among other places. Old world is being completely scrapped and the new one is being laid down in its place. So when you start off you jump into the new world immediately. This effect comes with patch 4.0. Its free and for all players regardless if you have any of the expansions or not.

The problem with story people are talking about is that once you hit 58 and go to outland you are ported a couple years back in the story, then head to northrend which is a year ago, then back to the current times.

Its a hiccup in time so to speak, time is flowing forward in one place but not for the other two areas.

OT: My account is canceled till 4.0 drops. Ill probably pick up cata as well but I'm not an end game player and once i see all the new areas i will likely cancel my account again.

The Dark Portal could be time travel as well you realise. meaning its stuck in that one timeline.

Northrend is getting changed a little too
Eh. I don't particularly care either way. Its a video game. You read the books if you want a coherent time line.

The moment the majority of people max again they will quit. I know I would.
This is what I do with Warcraft, hit level cap, get bored, stop playing, get expansion, level up again, maybe make a new character, hit its level cap, get bored, stop playing.

Been doing this for 5 years and I think since stopping last summer, this is the longest I've been WoW-free [apart from the odd respeccing of my girlfriends characters], and sadly I'm being tempted back with the idea of Cataclysm re-hashing some of the old areas, but even then I know its just to get people like myself back into the game... It won't happen Blizz, goddamnit it won't!

Well, I never was one for the story. But new environments, less restrictions, more stuff, and new races! So, I'm good.

I'm sure Cataclysm will improve WoW, just like the two previous expansions improved it.
But i'll be honest all expansions have their down sides too (like Resilience in BC and Vehicle based PvP in Wrath)
But that's just my opinion.

I actually liked the WG vehicle combat. Isles of conquest was pretty cool to. It added a layer of style to it.

I remember the massive fights in IoC to claim the docks or the Air ship. Defending the catapults and glaive launchers on the front line. I felt it added emphasis on players fighting each other, since the others have pretty much become group up, run to objective, run back, avoid combat at all costs.

WG i thought was unique in and of its self. The only problem i ever encountered with it is that there was no real challenge in it. When i left The Horde had double the defense victories over the alliance. The only time they really won was late at night.

Now... the giant quests. Those pissed me off. They put the camera in the most irritating place and didn't let you move it around. It was such a pain in the ass.

Let's face it, levelling a character, even with the various experience is a boring experience. I'll be happy to see how cataclysm will ease the process. especially for goblins and worgen.

Hahah how can they improve grinding? It's called grinding for a reason!

I remember grinding the materials for Mongoose. For both of my fist weapons. Oh the joy :3
