Will gamers become disgusted with video game violence as graphics move closer to photo realism?

Serious Sam 3 made it an available option to choose between realistic red blood, green blood (probably realistic for aliens), no blood, flowers and candy.
The latter two are a favourite, but those types of blood do clash a bit with the realism of the environment. It would be less of a thing when SS3 would have visuals like Borderlands.
Games like Soldier of Fortune had the possebility to remove limbs from other characters with carefully placed shots, but i never saw the fun in that, UT2004/UT3 had the severed limbs or just the skeleton flopping around, but due to the setting and unrealism of the graphics, it was less of an issue with me.

Mind you, I have absolutely no problem with killing loads and loads of poligon based lifeforms, be it human, robot or demon inspired.

To a degree, yes.

Going back quite a ways now I remember playing the original Solider of Fortune and finding the damage modeling highly amusing. For those that don?t know, Soldier of Fortune was one of the first games to model damage differently based on the area of the body you hit. Shoot an arm and it would blow off, hit a person in the stomach and their intestines would spill out, etc. Something like 15 different damage zones with different animations for each if I recall.

When the sequel came out they had switched to a much more realistic engine and had doubled the number of damage zones. At this point it was pretty much possible to dissect the people piece by piece. Heads broke apart in multiple different parts; hands could be severed from arms and all quite convincing for the time. The problem was that suddenly it wasn?t funny to do any of these things.

The first SoF I played through causing as much destruction as possible but the sequel I killed as few people as possible because it actually made me feel bad to see the type of pain I would be causing.

@Sleekit: Of course, the line is different for everyone. I didn't feel too bad about that opening scene of SPR too much unless I saw the violence in action and see the actual men fall rather than the aftermath of a blast. And if I'm correct, there was a portion of that opening scene where a German soldier surrenders and the Allies kill him anyway and I felt terrible for the German simply because I think taking advantage of someone giving up like that, despite what they might have done, is reprehensible.

Movies are photo-realistic. Has the world become disgusted with action movies yet?
It doesn't change anything.

There may always be a demand for cartoon visuals also, but plenty of people enjoy watching guys beating up other guys.

Of course not. Those same people are just fine watching realistic movie scenes. Further, entertainment mediums tend to avoid the parts of violence that are disgusting in favor of blood fountains that become associated with success and hitting your target.

Nah, it's all fake. Nothing really shocks me anymore and i doubt that anything would change if game graphics looked like real life, noone really complains that action movies are disgusting so why would video games be? The only things that had fazed me recently was a scene from 'drag me to hell' where and old woman vomitted or something like that in someones mouth and scenes where they torture people by putting stuff under their nails and also stuff that invloves messing with teeth. Thats probably because i can relate to those unlike the slaughter that you usually see in games and movies.
