And why do you need to look down the sights when you have a crosshair?
Serious question? :/
Actually he has a point. A crosshair allows for just as much accurate aiming and it means I don't have to fill half my screen looking at a gun jammed up my nose. The machinegun is the only weapon that would be more useful to look down the sights with since it actually does have a laser scope thing attached to it. Other than that, all the other weapons seem pretty accurate, hell the revolver has just as much accuracy as a sniper rifle in that game.

how about you all shut the hell up and let Valve make the game they're gonna make anyway? Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes developers mis-step and change the game... Then get complained at for it. Just drop it -.-

im not endorsing that half life should have am ADS mechanic it just pisses me off that people immediately assume that if they add this it will automatically become a grey brown generic shooter piece of crap. also just to be a devils advocate how would ADS cause people to no longer explore? that seems much more up to the player than whether or not you move more or less
But the question is why would you add it? Unless you wanted it to be more like the "grey brown generic shooter piece of crap"... it's not a good path to take.
HL has an old school light hearthed combat approach not encumbered with "realism", sometihng noone else can do these days, why would you go fuck that up.

This is why I maintain the developers should never ever listen to players, they should just implement their idea as it fits together.

Not once have I ever played HL2 and said "this is so hard to aim, I need an iron sight".

I don't understand the argument behind the "He's a scientist,so he doesn't know how to aim down the sights..."
Really? Just because he's not a professional in the gun business he can't understand that to aim the gun he has to look through the sights? I fired a a air rifle when I was 9 years old,and my first reflex was to look down the sights when it was time to fire.I'm sure a brilliant scientist that's 3 times older than I was,and has some good experience in the asskicking departement would understand how to do it too.

As for the other argument about not needing to aim in HL1 and HL2,it's because the shooting was balanced towards not having to aim with iron sights ever.

I don't understand why it would be so bad.I don't understand why this small, even insignificant step towards "realism" is greeted with hatred.Having an extra option isn't going to turn HL into another brown and grey looking CoD.
You're not being a brave defender of the true gaming world, you're acting smug and condescending towards other games you appear to hate.

I doubt it
it enhances the immage of him being not a super soldier but just a scientist in combat armor!
This, more or less. He's no space marine.
Right, so aiming is now something only marines do.

I play paintball and I know how to use the sights on my gun, am I a marine? You don't need to be a marine to use sights.

(Note: I don't think he needs it, but seriously, these are the arguments people come up with? What the hell?)

I always love my guns taking up half of the entire screen!

Let's totally do that!
This...albiet more seriouslyis probably the issue that Valve would have with iron sights. Half of the appeal of HL2 (and 1) is that it is digressive; you are often not looking "where you are meant to be going", you are marveling at the world, peeking at combine torturing people in side streets, noticing LOST themed graffti here and there. Anything that narrows the players field of vision would likely be frowned on by Valve.

By the time HL3 is released to have learned how to aim down the sights?
No, because Half-Life is not a realistic shooter. Besides, there's mods for that, if you really want it.

Gordan Freeman sucks. All he does is spectacularly fail to save humanity(Half Life 1), lead the Combine to multiple resistance bases(Throughout HL2 and episodes), and displace/kill millions of civilians(end of HL 2).

Also, he's probably one of the few protagonists in videogames that actually has LESS character then Master Chief.
