No, it'll be more like MW2. Have you seen any trailers for the game? It looks exactly like MW2.
Yes, they used the same graphics as mw2. That means that instead of working a lot on the graphics they can focus on the gameplay and balance
Sorry but thats no excuse for a triple a game running on the same engine as its last 4 predecessors. Balance does not require a huge budget or a humongous team to do. Sure graphics alone don't show game quality, but the lack of advancement in the graphics, sound, and gameplay of the past games has left a pretty bad taste in people's mouths.
Half life 2, ep1 and ep2 all use the source engine. They all feature the exact same weapons. 2 and ep1 are set in the same city. There is only a few new tracks added throughout the 3. They feature exactly the same enemies, only adding slight variations. They all have the same sorts of puzzles. They have pretty much the same gameplay. None of this has left a bad taste in anyone mouths because its a good game (probably also just because its called half life). Yet call of duty gets bashed for having the same engine more than half life has most things the same. IMO your post was just another example of call of duty bashing just because its popular and war based, and made by activision. Can you please tell me how the half life 2 series gets away with it whilst cod only has the same engine( although that is not technically true, if you look at cod 4 then mw2 they look very different) and it gets bashed and says that it leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths
Because they're good. When did CoD have excellent character development? When did CoD even have something that challenged you, rather than not shooting things? At least in Half-Life you actually care about the characters. They're good games. Damn near perfect. I don't see CoD doing that.
So because CoD doesnt tell you the deep past of all the marines it means that its worse than everything? Also, Half Life hasnt got much character development, the characters are only really there to lead you into situations, they just have very good personalities

IMO its not so much a "if it aint broke dont fix it" mentality but a "if its broke but masses of 12 year olds like it then dont fix it"
Ive been onboard with battlefiedl since BF Vietnam and with call of duty since COD4 and i doubt they can get back to wat i think was the awesomeness of COD4 cuz the uber killstreaks and feel good entitlements have been spoonfed to the players for too long.

Dont care I gave up the moment it went too seriouse. I am all for silly but when its seriouse silly. Sorry I have taken my hat and coat left the building and the street and three building more. Only becuse this girl said "Would you like a good time?" and I said yes.

Otherwise people takeing the game seriouse in like its their job and the game ecouragening it. I threw my hands up and went "I am done."

From gameplay, It is MW2 with diffrent guns and they just put in their own Horde mode because they cant use zombies. Beat CoD4? no the good CoD blood is running thin at this point they cant beat the pure blood at what it was best at it may be the best outher then CoD4 but 4 will still be better because it was something we hadent seen yet from the CoD series and now we seen it what 5 times since? theres no way it can win

But, MW3 will put the focus back on gunplay, it will remove most of the BS from MW2, and other things.
Yeah, I hope so. All those puzzles, the many characters you had to talk to and the heavy focus on exploration was really dull.

Survival Mode wasn't in MW2.
Have you read fourzerotwo's twitter at all?
It sounds not exactly like MW2.
That doesn't mean MW3 will be better, MW2 had co-op spec ops and it still sucked total balls, adding new features does not improve a game, after 5 years activision should be doing stuff like creating a new engine which will allow for more mechanics and new gameplay instead of selling the same game with a new name or number and splash of new paint

No, MW3 won't be COD4. However, I think it may be a good game.
HOWEVER, I think survival mode is a rip-off of Halo's firefight, which was also a rip-off of Gears of War's Horde mode. Then again, COD fanboys play nothing but COD, so it will seem new to them. Then again, it also looks like Infinity Ward's version of Zombies.

guarantee PC gamers will stay with cod4 until some kind of halo or some other random game for pc becomes the most balanced game ever.

On the other hand the trailers did look pretty cool, (except for the fact that that annoying red jelly all over the screen was on the entire trailer) that being said I will wait to see if a PC elitist says it is the second coming of Jesus before I buy ANY COD. I've already spent 120 on shitty COD games that could have got me a lot of doughnuts, cos I'm Fatty McFattAss at with my anorexia & all.

Yes, it will be just like another CoD4.
Just like World at War, MW2 and Black Ops were just like CoD4.
You sir, are made of win. But World at War was the best out of the new era of CoD's in my opinion.

But still, it's adding a few things, but not enough to make it worthy of being my Christmas main game.

Which does beg the question, what is the general name for this type of mode?

It is called Hoard for Gears, Firefight for Halo, now Survival for MW2.5 (aka MW3)

Everyone is doing it, yet everyone has a different name for it.

Arena mode?

Does this have some kind of precedent with RPG/RTS games?

I think it will be as ridiculous as MW2. Hopefully, the campaign will be longer though, so there is a reason to fork over all the money for it (Because....fuck paying for multiplayer. Remember when THAT was the afterthought for a game which no one used?).

COD 4 was great, MW2 was good, but not the masterpiece COD 4 was, and I would play COD 4 more if it wasn't for the fact that the game is HACKED UP THE ASS with all of those speed lobbies, and I swear one time rockets were firing out of a minigun, but that's beside the point. COD MW3 looks like its going to be okay, and given that I like COD, I'm going to buy it, but if its bad, like BO bad, I'm done with the franchise.

Nope, it'll be the next MW2. At least on pc it will be. I still don't get it. They haven't figured out yet that IWNet is a complete and utter failure?
