With the Sopa, Pipa and Acta Bills trying to be the Beginning of the End of the Information Age i'm beginning to wonder what the Content Mafia would do when People get scared of them.

With the aforementioned Bills it would have been possible that People could get themselves into legal Trouble without realizing it. When making a Youtube Video where you use a Backgroundmusic that is protected by Copyright Laws for Example. Stranger Things have happened.

With those Bills, it would have been a legal grey Area to even discuss protected Content on the Internet.

If the People in general start to see this Content as something of a hot Issue, as something you can't just buy and then do whatever you want with it, some People, like for example me, will start looking for unprotected Content to consume. Maybe i'll get more classical Music. Old Movies, Books or something. Free Stuff that isn't protected.
Instead of buying a new Game, i'll see if there's some new Mods for the Games i already own.

I will continue to buy new Games on release Day. But maybe i'll buy a little less new Games. I've already given up on new Movies, i watch them eventually, but i wont buy an overpriced Movie Ticket and then watch Advertisements for half an Hour in a Room where the AC makes the Air dryer then a fucking Desert.

New Music? Fuck that. I was never interested in Popmusic. It's interchangable and bland. The modern young People could listen to Stuff that was new ten years ago and they would have to pay less.

Most Music i listen too is public Domain or unprotected.

Will there be more People who are conscious about Copyright Protection in the Future? Maybe our Children will discover old Media and watch that.
Not in an Effort to Fuck with the System, but because the Hassle with modern Media just isn't worth it.
This whole Thing may lead to less Exposure of the People to modern Content. And that may lead to less People caring about the newest Content, which will make the Hearts of the Contentmafia bleed.

The Contentmafia will try to charge more Money from People who buy older Stuff but that will only create more "classic Lovers" who'll consume Media that's so old it's public Domain or free to begin with.

Everytime you consume unprotected Media, the Contentmafia gets no Money from you. Maybe People will do that more often in the Future.

I think the future is likelier to lie in legal advertisment based streaming, something along the lines of spotify or tv shows you can watch online. It is getting very popular these days and I think most do not mind few ads if they can watch/listen anything whenever they want legally.

In case your predictions are true that people will avoid pirated software more and more, then I think open source will probably see a boom. The day it won't be possible to pirate Windows, Office, Photoshop etc.. it will be the death of these.

I stopped reading when you said you dont like new music
meaning you dont like the Script, One Republic etc
Meaning I cant relate with you.
Just cause some pop music is bad doesnt mean it all is. Alternative is bigger than ever and I loves it when it mixes with pop, rock, punk, metal awwwwww........

Yep; i think Music is the Media most prone to this; You hear a good Song but its rather rare that you want this certain Song.
Normal Procedure would be that you try to buy that Song and the Contentmafia pisses in your left Nostril with DRM, low Quality Downloads, slow Downloads or whatever.
If you still care enough to bother you may want to resort to our wonderful p2p Networks. If you can't to that, you'll eventually stop giving a Crap.

Movies and Games are more unique. You may throw "Skyrim" in the Western Action RPG Drawer but that Drawer would have much less Titles then the "Party Pop Music" Drawer.

I fear that i may eventually go to a Party for old People like myself and wont notice it until i see only Teens around me, who started to recycle old Music because they don't want to pay the Fee for Recordlabels to do it for them. Maybe we'll see Albumcharts with "Alltime Party Classics Album #4573" because you can play that at private Parties without legal Risks.

Today this is a legal grey Area. I doubt its going to get better anytime soon.

So i guess we'll see if modern Popmusic will earn a few less percent Money because some People got tired and stopped giving a Shit.

If they squeezed too tightly, you'd find actual boycotts in progress. Perhaps not riots, though after last year, I wouldn't put it past the general public to actually riot over something they read online...

A nationwide pirate tax would work very well. Or creating more effective digital distribution (Steam's prices with decent download times). Or both.

There actually is one in Germany.
Since you couldn't hope to control People who would hold a Microphone next to their Radio and recording Music the Cassette Tapes got a little Mark up in Price. So did the Recorders.
Later we got this "Pirate Tax" for CD-writers and the Discs.
We still can't legally "pirate" Stuff, yet we all do have to pay Money as if we did.

Watching a Movie with Friends is legal, if they are five or less Friends. Copying Stuff that you bought is legal; it is not legal to circumvent any Copyprotection to do so however.
So if you want to make Backupcopies of your newly bought Album and your Copysoftware automatically gets rid of a Copyprotection you could get a Fine in Theory.
If the Recordcompany screws you over and you have a Rootkit protected Malware on your System (happened with Sony i believe) then a certain german Judge will tell you that you shouldn't put a Music CD where it doesn't belong. Sometimes i think the Scales might be a bit off.

I do like new Stuff. But i think with more and more Copyrightbullcrap piled on Top of it People will be less likely to bother with it. Instead of "OMG i need this new Game!!" everytime you may want to see what Copyright Protection Measures it has and may decide that its not worth it.

Another Possibility is that you're no longer as surrounded by talk about this new Product. Like when you visit this Site for Example because it's no longer allowed for this Site to show you how awesome this new Product is. With less Exposure, less People will buying the Product.

The Laws which would Limit Exposure in a rather harsh way would help dig the Graves of those who promotet that Law. Which i find hilarious.
