First off am not trying to flame. Metriod 1,2,Super metriod are games that are so close to my heart. I even actually really liked metriod prime 3 because well i thought it was the send off to the series and it was epic in that regard and the title theme is somthing you have to experiance.

Just i dont want one of my favorite series just going down hill. It already is. I've finnaly given up hope they'll never recapture the magic of the masterpeice super metriod. Are all these prequels really doing anything? I know its hard to just see a great series go but it has no end in sight. Just i want the metriod series to still look amazing 30 years from now and i'll tell my kids that "Almost every single game is great" lol.

Other M just makes me worry more and more for the future of this legendary series.

I hope not. It's my favorite Nintendo series. Zelda and Mario games lack SPACE JUMP.

It's going uphill, imo. Well, uphill considering that everything after Super Metroid isn't as good, but the Prime series is fantasic. And don't judge "Other M" until its out.

Other M is looking to be a great game and I hope it can revive a series that had gone a bit downhill, I don't want a series that is so great to be put to rest I just want it back to its old greatness.

I thought that Metroid prime 2 and Hunters was good (expecialy the multiplayer), but Corruption was a terrible game, It was incredibly boring to play, it was too gimmicky, the wii controls did not suit it in any way and the lack of multiplayer was shooting itself in the foot.
I hope Nintendo stop because it is only going to get worse.

The entire Metroid Prime series was freaking brilliant. Pick any one of the three and it's ten times better than CoD MW/MW2. There's no reason to get pessimistic until they release a bad game in the Metroid series. Sure hasn't happened yet. Hell, they could make a 2.5d Metroid game similar to Shadow Complex and it would be great.
Whats with people always harping on cod? Like really its amazing for what it is. I should start saying. Metriod is 100x better then that garbage Half life 2. Just because i hate half life with a passion dosent mean its a bad game...

I'm actually pretty exited about the other M, because a) it's on the wii, and b) Metroid is easily one of the best franchises in gaming history. At least, IMHO. It's shooting, but never gets too close to home.

Bossfights with Ridley are always among my favorites. The one where you drop down a big shaft is awesome.

Nothing we have now is going to look great 30 years from now. The older games really aren't that good compared to today's releases, they just set precedent for better games to be released. We love our old games because they are near to how we were raised. I still consider OoT my favorite game, but that doesn't mean I can stand going back and playing it. If you've set an older game on a pedestal, chances are nothing is ever going to reach it because you won't let anything, not because it still holds up today.

Haha now all we need to do is badmouth Halo, System Shock 2, and Deus Ex and that's the biggest thread fire ever.

OT: It's Metroid. Not Metriod. Anyway Nintendo are reknowned for their franchises being continued constantly. It's not going to end anytime soon.

Just like how everything after Link to The Past isn't as good (well good but not original)

Also Space Jump?

I think Metroid is a good ol series that has been ever so fantastic set. Super Metroid capped off the SNES era and for a while we had a drought then Prime came along and just brought back the same magic and then some. With Other M there might less excitement but i'm still lingering with anticipation.

Halflife 2 (and Episodes 1 & 2) excelled at creating a very compelling atmosphere through unique visual presentation, good dialoge and believable, compeling characters, and solid gameplay. It is a good game simply based on its own merits and you will love it for simply its contributions to the industry.

The Metroid series has been slowly improving on what was a solid game to begin with. The jump to Prime was probably the best and most sucessful 2D-to-3D conversion of a franchise since Mario 64. At the same time, the stories of the games are becoming bigger and more detailed with each additional game. Now we have what appears to be a remake of Super Metriod in an interesting hybrid side-scroller/first-person shooter that combines the best of both generations. Before you hit down on Other M, let's see if the game is a step down from the high expectations of the series.
