I'll wait for the reviews. So far it looks kind of generic.
I played Duke Nukem 3D and liked it back in the day but all this really looks like is a graphical update (and not an overly fantastic one) with a new storyline. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty mediocre.
Don't get me wrong. I hope it's good, but I really doubt it will be.

Already pre-ordered it as a present for my boyfriend. I'll probably play it too, since I'm getting more into shooters.
Tell your boyfriend that I, a complete stranger, think you rock.

*cough* Anyway... My wife and I are looking forward to it as well. She's just as much of a pervert as I am and we both want a game that isn't SRSBZNS MAN SHOOT GUNS MAKE DEAD THINGS!!! I preordered and already bought it so when it comes out, I take it home and [censored]. *coughs* I mean, I shoot things and have lulz.

It better not disappoint me or I will be a sad panda.

EDIT: Forgot a reason. I have faith in Gearbox after getting the GOTY Borderlands. I like the cut of their jib and thus feel obligated to support them as they made a shooter that I actually liked. Also, DNF... Fuck ya.

I highly doubt it.

Reason: I really don't give a toss about Duke Nukem, I've never played the older ones and they took way too long coming out with this title.

No. I have friends that likely are going to get it, so I plan to play it in their house. I don't expect it to be anything but a guilty pleasure, which is not bad on itself, but not worth a buy.
As much as I understand the importance of Duke Nukem 3D to the genre, I was never able to play it to completion.

Absolutely going to buy it and play the crap out of it.

I played the snot out of Duke 3D way back when, when it was new, and I love the character, I mean, how can you not love Duke?

I'm really glad they pulled no punches in this game as far as sex and nudity go, without those, it wouldn't be Duke!

It looks like its going to be a LOT of fun, and I'm eager to get my perverted hands on it :)

I won't, and I'll be encouraging others not to buy it as well, and for one reason.

It is horribly and irredeemably misogynistic.

Just to clarify, I am a straight white male American whose political leanings can only be described in one word as "moderate."

I'm not big advocate of "political correctness," nor am I on board with what tons of people are calling "feminism" nowadays. I'm just an educated person who sees the depictions and treatment of women in this game for what they are.

And yes, I realize that the game is going for caricature. If this were purely a caricature of the over-the-top, 80's Schwarzenegger, "tough guy hero," I would so be on board with this game. I love a good satire.

The truth is that the people who are going to play this game and one of the first things they are going to see is a positive portrayal of an over-the-top violent male hero who lives a life of luxury and has a pair of schoolgirl twins (who look distinctly underage) pleasing him orally while he plays video games. Then they're going to see that it is only the "hot chicks" who get kidnapped. Then they're going to see that Duke cares nothing for the world, or even the women he's saving. He cares about kicking ass for no reason other than the fact it makes him look awesome. He cares about saving the girls for no reason other than that they can and will please him sexually.

The problem is that I'm betting a lot of people who see this aren't going to see caricature. They're not going to see the depictions of uber-masculinity and the over-sexualization of women and think, "Wow, that's some clever caricature. In reality, it's sad that gender roles push unhealthy expectations on both genders."

I'd bet that a lot of men who experience this game are going to have, on some psychological level, the idea floating around of "Man, wouldn't that be awesome? I wish my life was like this."

And this is yet another piece of media geared around the horrible idea that only the hottest chicks (particularly those who dress like sex objects) are worthy of time and attention. In this game, it is only the hottest women who dress like sex objects who are kidnapped and they are the only ones whom the hero cares to rescue. You could say, "Well, it's not Duke's fault that only the 'hot chicks' were kidnapped." True, but consider this: if a woman who did not hold any sex appeal for Duke was kidnapped, would Duke take the needed time and energy to rescue her? Of course not. He'd leave her to her fate. If that's not shallow misogyny I don't know what is.

The whole thing is demeaning. It's a testament to how unenlightened people are regarding the history of women's liberation and how portrayals of this kind are negatively affecting both genders.

Now, don't get me wrong. The developers have every right to make this game. And stores have every right to sell it. And consumers have every right to buy it. I'm not attacking any of those freedoms. I'm just saying that I hope the general population will see it for what it is and not buy it rather than buy it, praise it, and contribute to the stifling of social gender enlightenment.

I feel bad for Gearbox, as I know that saying "I hope this game fails" is tantamount to saying "I hope their careers suffer." I love Borderlands and I loudly applaud their work there. Despite all this, I hope this game fails.

I'm buying it just for the sake of owning it.

Thinking about it, OWNING Duke Nukem Forever. I still have difficulty grasping it at times.
For this reason. It's been in production for years, it was abandoned. This is the unicorn yeti breed of the gaming world. This is the end of the longest running joke in the gaming world. Now everyone will have to jump on being mean to Half-Life 2 Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 until that is released.

Yes, because about a decade ago when I heard that the game is not coming out yet I decided to blow the money I had buying shares of Apple and so I have a bit disposable income.

Edit: Also because when they will invent Time Travel I'll go back to the year 2009 so I whip up the CE and say "No realy guys, It's going to come out"

I'd love to buy it and millions of other games but I have hardly any money so I doubt I can.
But I would if I could.
Because it looks funny, and I like to throw poop (In games).

Yes I will, simply because it will be mind-bogglingly stupid, and I loooove me some stupid stuff. Seriously, I've got "Sharktopus" and "Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus" on a shelf behind me, there's room enough for the Duke.

I just hope they really pull through with making a purposefully obscene game, would hate to see a last-minute censoring happening. They've promised me unadulterated, uncut stupidness, and by jove I'm gonna be pissed if it ain't so.

Dude, Duke Nukem has saved the world 3 times over (Inevitably 4 in Forever). He's beaten sharks to death with his own hands. Climbed Mount Everest on his own. He owns the largest hotel/casino in the world (With a built in nuclear turret). He's the richest bastard on the planet. His EGO can deflect bullets. He gets to use a shrink ray on alien bastards and steps on them. He drives a Monster Truck called "The Mighty Foot" through the Mojave Desert. JETPACKS!

Of course I want to have a life like his on some level. The "Misogynistic" portrayal of women is just a bonus.

You feel bad because Gearbox gets to have fun working on a fun game that just happens to have "Misogynistic" themes? And you want the game to fail because Gearbox is letting Duke have the last laugh after 14 years? ...Jerk...

As for me, I am getting the Balls of Steel Edition. I'm in the First Access Club. This:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkCz51qQwuU

Almost made me do unspeakable things in my pants. June 14th cannot come fast enough. Especially since the multiplayer is going the TF2 route of being of War-Themed hat simulator.

Also because tiny Dukes are funny.

Probably.

I want to go ahead and buy it on Steam right now, but I'm waiting for the demo to come through on the First Access club website before I do.

I still remember how much squandered potential Bulletstorm had. I'm not convinced the developers of today can actually create an experience like what we used to have anymore.

The games looks horrible. The shooting looks bland and generic and the Duke, well, the Duke hasn't aged well.

That being said, after an extreme price cute, I might get it. As of right now, I just think the Duke may not be as good as I remember.

Now this i most likely very much not the part of your argument you wanted to stay with the reader, however I must say that, when I saw that text, you've pretty much just sold the game to me.

However, I do disagree on the statement that "It's a testament to how unenlightened people are regarding the history of women's liberation and how portrayals of this kind are negatively affecting both genders."
I believe you'd be hard-pressed to find someone whose gender perspectives will be swayed by playing this game, considering that said someone would be > 18 years of age in order to be allowed to play it.

In relation to that, I don't believe the argument "kids will play it" holds water, since that is their parents' responsibility, not the game developer's or the publisher's. Now, I'd actually be inclined to say that if parents let The Duke raise their kids for them, then there may very well be issues later on, however I still blame the parents.

Which people? The players? The moral watchdogs? The gamers' parents? The rabid moral watchdogs? The media?

If someone is not old enough to understand satire this obvious they should not be subjected to it.

Will I buy it? Why, yes I will.

Why? Because it just looks so delightfully stupid and cheesy. That and I never had the pleasure of meeting Duke's acquaintance beforehand.

You got me there. I was thinking of "sexual objectification of women;" treating women as sexual objects rather than treating them as people. I just got my term wires crossed. My bad.

You mention all the cool things that he's done, but do you really want to be an egomaniac who treats women as objects rather than people?

If so I feel sorry for any current and future girlfriends you have.

I feel bad because Gearbox is full of talented people and I want to support their studio, but I can't support a game that glorifies being a egomaniac who treats women as living sex toys.

If this game is widely successful, I'm inclined to believe that gamer culture is less mature and less sensitive to gender issues than I would hope it would be.

If you believe that age automatically brings wisdom and that every adult who will play this is smart enough to see it for the satire that it is, then, in my opinion, you have way too much faith in humanity.

EDIT: And, for the record, DNF is a caricature, but it only arguably qualifies as satire, and that argument is weak at best.
