I saw at some points that it still used the WIndows 7 interface....
So, maybe there's a way to make windows 8 stay with the same UI as 7 or Vista/XP...

Like how you can make your windows 7 computer look like it's still running 95 or 98...

But yeah, I can see how this will be annoying, and how this will be bad...
With everything becoming touch orientated, it will be really, really bad for those of us who like the way a mouse+keyboard or controller works....

Somehow though, I don't think Microsoft will be THAT stupid to realise this...
They have announced it at two separate events, D9 and Computex, I think this is pretty serious.

It more looks like a tablet OS than something I would use on a computer. Hopefully Microsoft will realize that and make an old Windows-7-like interface as an option. Oh, and nothing about that really screams "Video Games" to me at all. Yes, it's a new OS, but there wasn't anything that specifically screamed out to people who play video games.

Aww c'mon! I just got Win7 last year, not ready to upgrade!

I hope you fail like Vista!

*views video in link* Wow... that... was... AWESOME!!! Did you see that! It looks like an iphone style thing but better because you can run two apps at once! on a desktop!!! I'm going to buy this, it looks so new and shiney. Did you HEAR the background music!?! It's like, my new outlet for my budding sense of modern artistic expression!!! Seriously, screw Apple.

Oh, you may be able ignore that completely and use your computer like an actual computer. Well. I guess it's back to my macbook and iphone then. Microsoft just doesn't get my express need to be wild, edgey and DIFFERENT!! [/sarcasm]

I have Win 7. I mostly know how my computer works. I don't care for this tile app UI stuff. Microsoft, please tell me, what is going to make me and people like me care about Win 8?

I think It looks wonderful. All the stuff I do while procrastinating (Looking at feeds and youtube videos) in one UI while I can switch over to the desktop UI for gaming and other programs.

Honestly, I'm mostly disappointed because I thought that Windows was above calling EVERYTHING an "app." What's so wrong with "program?!"

Not power user friendly at all D:
Everything is getting oversimplified! >.<

I do not approve. And why oh why must we call things "apps"? Oh, right, because that word sells.

it looks pretty, but, really, I'm tired of computers getting too user friendly! I'm fine with computers having an interface and not using dos, but there comes a time where you have to learn something. I'm all for change, but instead of looks and accessibility, go for being useful to more than just the general demographic.

*sigh*

more bullshit, less functionality.

truly, this is the future.

you know, pathetically nostalgic as it is, im starting to think there really never was a reason to go past windows 95. it, you know, did stuff, and every os since then has desperately followed apple, slowly trading functionality for looking shiny (well windows 95 did that to, but it was a nice middle ground).

if youll excuse me, i have to go apologize to linux for ever doubting it. i now see its the only sane OS left.

I'll wait until I see more and get more details (like I have a choice right now; I can't go buy Windows 8 right now can I?), but my first impression is most certainly that I'd rather keep Windows 7.

"Vista 2", eh?

I guess I'll be skipping this one as well.

You won't be the only one. Looks like MS are tightly focused on portable devices for this OS and I've got no interest in those. They had best put out a serious desktop OS when Win7 starts getting long in the tooth, though... and I think they will. They really don't want to try and push this bullshit on their corporate clients.

Well, for the first time ever, I honestly think I will be skipping a windows generation. I've used every single one since windows 3 and, well, windows 8 just looks bad.

this.

maybe it's decent enough for a tablet on the go, or the windows phone, but otherwise, fuck that, windows 7 is just fine, and until it disallows me to play my games the way i want to and do what i want to, then linux will be my path, but fuck this apple esque bullshit they are trying to pull

I doubt ms would be stupid enough to do the direct X thing they did with xp to windows vista/7 already

Looks interesting if you're into that sort of thing. However it didn't address a very serious issue, what will support be like for non-windows programs like Steam, VLC and Chrome? If it can't do games and porn then it's no good to me.
Sigh...

You can run older programs and it does have a file system. The UI just got a facelift, and it was made more touch friendly (for AIOs and future tablets).

It's Windows. It'll still do everything it does right now.

People need to research more before they panic.

Meh Ill stick with Windows 7 that came with my pc I bought last year and I dont want to go out and buy a touchscreen monitor atm. Ill continue to do what I normally do and thats only get a new windows when I get a new PC.

I knew MS were gonna try to rush out yet another OS due to how bad they are proforming as a company altogethera. MS share are dirt cheap because no one sees any real long term viability of MS atleast not the giant they were in their heyday. It seems the world is begining to wisen up that buying every new MS OS every 2 years is pointless. Although its a shame that Mac pull the same shit with their hardware and everyone laps it up.

Besides if all these new graphical features are like Aero it can go die in a fire. I keep Aero perminatly turned off due to the sheer amount of games that conflict with it. Imo its just another one of MS' schemes to fuck with PC gamers and get them to switch to their console.

MS stopped been Pro gaming on the PC when they entered the console market. Thats why XP is so popular with PC gamers

I already have Windows 8, it leaked some time ago. In my opinion, windows 7 is better, but I didn't use 8 with a touch screen, so maybe I'm missing out on part of the experience.

At any rate, as long as they continue to support the regular desktop OS crowd, then I have no problem with this.
