I wouldn't say it's the most used OS from the standpoint of an actual user, but it probably is the OS they're using to run their server if they have a guru on their staff. Linux is great for servers because for the most part it's free and largely immune to most kinds of attacks/hacks/viruses etc if it's been configured correctly. Dunno, just my 2 cents.
Most people going to IT schools are probably going to be working towards a certification from MS, probably for MS server, can't remember what the newest edition is.
