No experience here but wasn't linux the most used OS in IT colleges and such? If i remember correctly, it was the single OS which you are allowed to mod to hell and backward without M$ secret police after you, the only condition being that said modder must not obtain any profit.

Dunno, just my 2 cents.
I wouldn't say it's the most used OS from the standpoint of an actual user, but it probably is the OS they're using to run their server if they have a guru on their staff. Linux is great for servers because for the most part it's free and largely immune to most kinds of attacks/hacks/viruses etc if it's been configured correctly. Hence the need for a guru.

Most people going to IT schools are probably going to be working towards a certification from MS, probably for MS server, can't remember what the newest edition is.

I don't mind doing the work in regards to repairing PCs..if the cheap asses would pay me (currently waiting on $80 from a "friend" whom I sold a power supply to and my "old" 17" widescreen LCD monitor)

I've used Vista X64 constantly since SP1,I've used XP since it first came out..applied 3 services packs..still use both OSes.Computer works just fine.

My mom uses Mac OS X 10.4.something because her Powermac G4 only runs at 450Mhz,but it does have SCSI drives so that helps a little bit.

I had(past tense thanks to a pain in the ass niece spilling soup on it) a Dell mini 12 laptop with Vista Home Basic and despite the fact that it only was 1.6Ghz and 1GB RAM..it worked. Not as fast as my Athlon X2 PC with 4GB RAM.

In my opinion, since I've dealt with PCs and repairing them, they are only as good as the user using them. If you have a dumbass that visits myspace all the time and doesn't have any active anti-virus scanner, active anti-spyware/malware program running and isn't careful about what they download..then by all means let their computer get filled to capacity with adware/malware and spyware so their computer eventually becomes a paperweight.
