Hey guess what everybody? The other day I went to the dentist for a routine check up. The dentist took one look inside my mouth and asked "Have you ever had an x-ray?" I hesitantly said no, I had never had a dental x-ray in my 17 years on this earth. So anyway I had my first dental x-ray. The good news is that all my regular teeth are perfectly fine. However, in the four back corners of my jaw my wisdom teeth have been going about the business of COMPLETELY FUCKING UP MY MOUTH!!! One of the is almost upside down, one is millimeters away from burrowing into my sinus cavity, one has grown a large cyst around itself and the fourth one....slightly impacted.

So of course the only option is to get my wisdom teeth out as soon as possible. The dentist told me usually I am at the right age to loose my wisdom teeth, but just because my genes hate me, I have the teeth of a 21 year old apparently so i'm very late for the party. Now I was quite nervous about getting my wisdom teeth out. But wait, it dosn't stop there. You know your pre-molars? the teeth....well just before your molars? Well guess who has a second set growing just underneath them on my bottom jaw and has gotten tangled into the roots? Hurray for me.

So in short, four fucked up widom teeth to remove and two extra pre-molars to be untangled from my face like christmas lights. To quote Arj Barker:

"In all their infinite wisdom they decided that it would be a good idea to grow fucking upside down in my head and try to kill in my early twenties." "Unless they know something I don't."

So clearly you can see that i'm nervous about getting these teeth out. I really hope it's not as complicated as it seems and I hope it wont hurt too much. So Escapists, have you had your wisdom teeth out before? What was it like, how did you feel and what was recovery like? I go in for surgery in two weeks, general anaestetic no way in hell am I being awake for that.

I still have a baby tooth (nothing growing up underneath it to force it out), doubtful I'll get any wisdom teeth for a while.

yeah... they show you a video of all the problems you can have with wisdom teeth... and mine had all of them! lol! stupid teeth.

anyways, have fun with it. anesthesia is pretty nice... kinda relaxing when you start going under... though puking blood when I came out of it was much less fun... but that's probably cause they didn't use the suction thingy often enough.

but don't worry. it didn't hurt really, it just felt really REALLY sore. like a few days after getting punched in the face.

I haven't had my wisdom teeth out and two of them have actually grown in all the way. Turns out that my teeth genes are just lucky.

Mine have been removed.

Worst part about it was I came down with the flu later that evening. Vomiting is never fun, especially when worrying about a dry socket. Though I didn't really swell much after. Just a little bit bruised.

Before I had mine out I was a little bit worried. Then I got over it as it became apparent there wasn't any way around it. The whole thing took all of twenty to thirty minutes. The duration of which I was put under for.

You, however, have bad luck. Assuming they do it all at once, it will probably take a bit longer and leave you very sore. On the bright side, you've got a better origin story than Calendar Man so far.

You're 17 and you've never had a dental X-ray? I've always had them at LEAST every 3 to 4 years, and I had them done yearly until my adult teeth came in. I guess that explains the stereotypical difference between US and UK teeth a bit, anyway.

I had mine removed surgically a few years ago, which I assume is how they want to take yours out, too. So here's how it went. The place I had it done was a 100 mile drive from home, so my parents took me. They put me under completely, but I swear I remember waking up just a tad in the middle. I remember seeing some stick-like things sticking out of my mouth above me. I didn't feel any pain and I wasn't scared at all, but I kept trying to ask if I was supposed to be awake. So then I went back under. Then when I woke up for real, I didn't even realize it had happened. I kept wondering "When are they going to start? My mom isn't here anymore. Maybe they're about to put me under. Where did everybody go?" Finally when I tried to speak, I noticed my mouth was full of gauze and I realized they were already done.

I slept most of the way back home, still under the influence of the anesthesia a bit. They numbed up my mouth pretty good before I left, so I couldn't feel a thing the whole way. I highly recommend not eating anything for an hour or two afterward. Depending on how you handle anesthesia you may feel a bit nauseous (I didn't), and with your mouth totally numb you have no control of your lips and will likely dribble everything out anyway.

We got home in about two hours, and my dad immediately left to go get my painkillers. The line at the pharmacy was long, so it took him 45 minutes to get stupid things. By that point, the numbness was gone and I was to the point of tears in pain. Finally he came home with the pills, and everything was fine from there.

I ate soft stuff for like two weeks. Mac and Cheese, ice cream, soup, all that good stuff. Just be careful to keep your mouth clean to prevent infections (you'll probably be told to rinse with salt water a few times a day, but that sort of sucks. I recommend hydrogen peroxide). You do NOT want an infection. My brother got one from the wisdom tooth he had removed. They never figured out exactly what sort of infection it was, but it made that entire side of his jaw swell. They had to give him one of those sweeping antibiotics that sort of just cures everything, and he had to be on it for three months. And to this day he says he can still feel a little tough ball in there where the swelling originated. It's not infected anymore, but it still sucked.

So that's the best advice I can give you. Relax, enjoy your soft food, and keep your mouth clean. Have fun :3

I haven't needed to get my wisdom teeth pulled yet. My dentist said as long as they're coming in straight and not causing any pain then there's no reason to remove them.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry D: I'm afraid we don't have dingos in Missouri, though. Will a coyote work? We have foxes too, or bobcats if you're okay with felines.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I had 4. I was under laughing gas. Laughing gas doesn't knock you out, but it makes everything super groovy. Aside from lots of bleeding afterwards and a bad soreness that last half a day it wasn't that bad. Your case is more severe then mine of course but I'd imagine that once the operation is over there be lots of blood, lots of gauze in your mouth (gauze has an odd texture), and your mouth will probably be really sore for a few days. The biggest damage will probably be the damage to your wallet though, dental surgery is expensive.

I've had mine removed several years ago and I had to have my mom drive me since I was getting them all taken out at once. I don't remember anything after them knocking me out. I vaguely remember sleeping and not acting right all day, I also remember trying to eat a milkshake but it kept dripping out of my mouth.

I don't know about you, but I has on some really good pain meds that I ended up tossing down the toilet since they were giving me Alice in Wonderland dreams and moments when I was awake, not fun when you live in a two story home.

I hope you like eating a lot of soft food, especially pancakes!

I had all of my wisdom teeth removed, wasn't a big deal. Operation itself was nothing, you get all drugged up and it might as well never have happened as far as you'll be concerned. Only part that will suck on your end is the aftermath, having your mouthy by a sore and bloody mess for a while is about as fun as it sounds. But, just stick with the soft foods and keep taking the lovely pills they prescribe you.

Both of them on the right side of my mouth are perfect, so no shits given there, but on the left side the one on the bottom is acting like a douche, not growing properly and making it a pain to chew certain things.

Been to the dentist like once in my life, might have to go soon to have that one checked out.

Wow... You have a messed up mouth.

Last I went to the dentist (about a year ago), they took an x-ray and said I should ask a oral surgeon about wisdom tooth removal. I haven't yet though, because they were no where near as bad as yours, and I'm hoping that they will come in correctly (I was told earlier that they would be fine).

Whatever, just wash your hands.
make sure you get lots of painkillers, it sucks to wake up from the surgery and find out those all wore off

Get em out get em out fast. The sooner its over and done with, the sooner its over and done with. Any delay will cause THE WORST PAIN YOU WILL EVER IMAGINE. You are so lucky your dentist pushed you into an x-ray.

So lucky.

I haven't had mine removed, but the rest of my family has (I am under the assumption that I have been so far lucky). After the surgery, your face will swell for a while, you will drool a lot, and excess amounts of face movement will hurt, especially when it concerns your jaws. Ice cream is the best medicine here, so pick your favorites and stock up. You will need it.
