The fuck is this shit? Apparently, unless your a god damn fucking psychic, you have literally 0 chance of beating this boss first time around.

Im on 2 bars of vigor because I leveled up some completely fucking worthless ability instead of the one that gives me +1 vigor, and I didn't get a chance to drink the potion - because I didn't realized I was going to be tossed into the fight like I would. Oh yeh, and the game autosaved over the only worthy save file I had...

But none of that is a problem. Here I am, conqueror of Dark Souls and Demons Souls, of course I would get around to perfecting it to the point of being able to cut off the tails without breaking a sweat... but then came the QTE's...

Whose fucking genius idea was it to make the QTE popups so fucking small and in such random places? WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE QTE's IN THIS FIGHT AT ALL? Made it past the tentacles to die to QTE's twice and get shocked to death another time.

I have maintained that the Souls games are hard, but fair, always fair. This fight is not fair. Bad design choice and a marring shitstain on an otherwise exquisite game.

Well it is fair. You were going down to the Kayrans lair so you should at least drink a potion beforehand - that's what I did. I was also on 2 bars of vigor.

You can also turn the quick-time events off, and anyway after the first try you'll know where you need to look to see them.

After cutting the tentacles off the fight is honestly very easy, you must just be bad at the game.

If you don't like them turn off difficult QTE's in the options.
2 bars of vigour is enough it just makes the fight slightly slower and you didn?t realise you were about to be tossed into a fight? This isn?t a fight that came out of nowhere. What did you think would happen when you entered the Kayrans lair while on the Kayran quest after Sile tells you she is going to draw it on to land?

As Daystar said, you can also lay down the Kayran trap(s) instead of using the Yrden sign. Sure, the Kayran is a really nasty fight the first time around (took me like 20-30 tries), but much of it is attributed to the fact that most players won't be fully accustomed to the game by that point. On my second playthrough I took the Kayran down on the first attempt on nightmare difficulty, simply because I was more accustomed to the flow of combat in the Witcher.

I beat the Kayran first time.

It's not that hard. Just lay trap, dodge, rinse and repeat.
Yeah, that's what I did. XD So easy to be the Kayran like this.

It took me 5 tries for the pre EE version. Thats coz it bloody flicks rocks at you every half second....

They tweaked the timing for the EE i understand.

OP, trick is to Quen up when you can. Relatively easy to dodge the tentacles, so quen when you get to the walking the bridge part. And theres only like 1 QTE in that scene.

Just out of curiosity, which one are you referring to?

I don't recall any particularly unfair boss fights.

Well, most of the early portions of Chapter 1 are spent preparing and readying yourself for fighting the Kayran and everyone makes it a big deal. Hell to activate it, you have to speak to Sile herself beforehand and tell her you're ready and all set. So how you weren't ready for it, I don't know.

Although it is a little trial and error'y. I had to re-do the fight 3 or 4 times before I got past it, and that number is certainly not unreasonable.

That fucking dragon. Not the entire boss, just one part of it.

1) Make a dragon boss
2) Make her one hit with 2 different attacks
3) Make dodging important as fuck in your game, particularly vs bosses
4) Make it third person
5) Put the player in a cramped room with no space to dodge
6) Put flames at the back of the room so they poke into the camera and block the players vision (I think they fixed this a few days after release)
7) Make the player fight the dragon in this room.
Was that where she pokes her head through the wall or... something? Man, the memories have really faded.

Anyway, I think by that stage I was sufficiently juiced up on super potions to pretty much just shrug it off.

You lucky bastard, Im still on it, cut of one tentacle and die...
Unlike you I play pretty much play games either on the easiest difficulty or second easiest. So this is a pretty huge curve for me.

C'mon man. The first time you go down there to get the mucus you have to jump off of a gazillion rocks, if that's not a hint.
Having said that, I think I messed up on my first playthrough as well, and had to reload a bit. Stuff like that happens though.
As for the QTE's; they surprised me too, but once you get the hang of it, it's really nothing too unfair. It is a huge cancerous kraken after all.

Wait till your next boss fight. That one's gonna make you shit bricks out of frustration. From the next chapter on things get relatively easy though.

What super potions? There are no potions in the game that will let you shrug off 50% or 100% damage hits, unless you're playing on easy.
If my memory serves, you can stack potions. There are skills (and mutagens?) that dramatically increase the effects. Also, at least one of the potions give you regeneration. Lastly, there's some kind of skill that gives you bonuses when you're drugged up to capacity.

It's been well over a year and I only played the game once, so I forget the particulars. However, I do remember that by the third act I was strolling through fights with minimum hassles, mostly due to potion effects. That was on whatever difficulty is one above normal. I have no idea how it would work on the harder settings.

I'm sorry, but if you think that the kayran is hard, then the next boss is going to climb out of the your screen and beat you to death with your own keyboard. All you have to do is to stand infront of the tentacles, do they Yrden and then dodge. And the QTE is right-click then spacebar if I'm not mistaken.

The only part I thought was tricky was when you had to run up on it and I couldnt see which bloody ramp I could run on and which was just a invisible wall, but that just cost me one retry.

Man up and remember to loot the kayran afterwards, I forgot to do that my first time.
