Ok so I was perusing Facebook, and I am a "fan" or "like" a site called lamebook [http://www.lamebook.com/up-to-date-updates-2] (which is basically pictures of people being stupid on Facebook) and someone said in the picture "Happy 2010th birthday America." That is where the problem starts, see in a reply to the link a man, we will call him Trevor, being from another country said "God i hate Americans." Now this shows a great deal of ignorance on his part as obviously because of:
1 America is a total of two (2) continents
2 The correct term would be US Americans or US citizens (unless he really hates every country in America)
My questions are, why do people from other countries have such a hate towards another country that is equal to it if not slightly better/worse? And ignorantly assume all the people in said country are equally as stupid as the one with the most Darwin Awards?

Because Americans have the habit to be known for being arrogant assholes. That's just how it works. They hate us, and we hate the French. It's really nothing new.

So you approve of ignorant assumptions based on little to no factual evidence?

I have no idea. I think it might just be a superiority complex or something. Or maybe how the other country's citizens are raised to view the world (or that specific place). Like how any time I see an argument with someone from Japan with an American, it will usually devolve into, "Have another cheese burger you fat American" on the Japanese person's part, and something else on the American's part (usually a racist slur).

Some people just like to be ignorant just because people are different too.

The real question is why the commenter thinks that America's been around for less than 2010 years. Sure, the United States has, as has the name. But the place?

To be honest, lots of people refer to the USA as America, and Americans. Seriously, fuck loads, so it's not that much of a big deal.

Though to your question, I have no idea why people hate other countries, their are exceptions to this of course as i'd perfectly understand why A South Korean might hate North Korea or a man from vietnam hating the USA. But when it comes to most people, it's just silly, stupid and their's not alot we can do about it sadly.

Never said that.

I'm saying that ignorance is something you'll always have to live with and deal with, so instead of getting in a big huff about it each and every time, just ignore it so you can live your life peacefully.

Well I'm British and I love the USA. I've been to NYC, Philadelphia and D.C. and it weas the greatest holiday of my life
I was at a friends house a few days ago with a few other mates who were all going on about how much they hate America and Americans and it just made me explode with rage so I respoded by roughly saying "That is exactly why most Americans are better people than you three! You sit there and complain about a country you've never been to and have no way to support this idiotic statement! Only British people are so fucking miserable that they sit down complaining about how shit they think other countries are!" I can't wait to move to the east coast of the USA. I'm so sick of the ignorance of British people in general
This sounds like I'm being ignorant about Britain but truth be told I've never had a positive conversation with a single Briton about a foreign county. Every Brit I've ever spoken to hates all other conutries. Hell, I go to uni in Wales and the Welsh despise the English to the point that I honestly feel uncomfortable being there half the time, so Brits even hate one another!

Well my guess is that since it was on the 4th of July, they assumed the US.

It's because people that are getting hated tend to hate back and people also have little tolerance for countries filled with enough ignorance to make threads like these.

Actually in all fairness that's probably what they meant, that the United States of America haven't been around since Jesus

But yeah, if Ignorance is Bliss, this is one happy nation (I kid, I kid)

I'm ignorant because someone is hate filled over people they have not personally met or ever will because they are so close minded that they won't leave their holy homeland that is oh so perfect in their eyes?

Depending on your definition, America has been around a few hundred years or a few million or a hundred million. No matter what that person was dumb, though.

I judge everyone individually, but that still means I judge people.

Unfortunatly people throughout the ages have stereotyped other people. It happens all the time even in today aparently 'civilised' socity, teenagers are sterotyped as hoddies with ASBOs, single mothers are stereotyped as girls with a bady just living off the state.
It's not good and I hope one day this sort of thing will stop but people get put in boxes because of where they live, who they hang out with, what age they are, what music they like, what religion they are a member of etc etc etc.

As for the ignorance shown in the comment about hating Americans, I put forward the argument of the vocal minority. Usually only people with extreme views get heard because everyone else doesn't say anything. Therefore, really, it's best to leave those kind of people alone in the knowledge that they are generalising a whole land mass.

As an aside, I know quite a few Americans and they are all lovely, well-rounded people.

I just hate stupid people, and the person that thought the US was over two thousand years old, she's stupid. I feel justified in hating her.

"have not personally met" Then how can you make assumptions that the rest of he world hates your country? And how can you assume it is perfect in their eyes?

Your answer to these 2 questions will prove the argument you just made against me invalid. So answer or don't, it no longer matters.
