I recently took my friends step daughter to Chuck E Cheeses and she just wanted to play the games she couldn't care less about the tickets. She's a smart kid I don't think she's gonna grow up to be a problem gambler. Just let the kids play and have fun. Like their ads say "where a kid can be a kid."

God people are so sue happy these days. This woman probably just saw a chance at some easy cash and jumped at it.
I mainly think it is because US law system allows things like these to go trough to the court. In Finnish system the Prosecutor would have laughed your ass out of hes office and charged you for wasting hes time.

Also, she is most likely going to ask 76 quadtrillion dollars from the company.

I am sorry to say it again; but American law system defies common sense.

We must be cautious >.>

OT: People will sue everything now a-days, most of these machines are winnable (although i admit some are rigged), hell i won this guy from the claw machine games.

I really don't see how the machines are promoting gambling...i mean seriously =\

Are they talking about the machine where the lights spin around and you gotta press the big button at just the right time to get the jackpot? No that's not chance, that's totally based on skill. I used to get the jackpot on those things all the time. It's definitely something you can get good at and clean the place out if your hands are quick.

The money is totally the issue here. The attorney probably knows this lawsuit is BS. He's just in on this for the potential thickening of his wallet.

I..Wha..who?..... Suck a dick. I hate this lady. I don't know her; I don't know what she looks like; I don't know what her life is like, and yet I hate her. At this moment, that ***** represents everything I despise. And so I say again, suck a dick, lady.

Only in America... I'm sure absurd things like these crop up in any place in the world, but only in the USA that such absurd things can happen once every hour of day light there is, and this one is actually one of the less absurd cases! I watch the Young Turks, so I get updates on stuff like this all the time. I am not a bit surprised it happened, I'm so used to it, that I am beginning to question if America still knows what is "embarrassment".

This woman has no business suing for money. If it is a criminal case, then it should be the state versus the firm (doesn't make sense really, since anyone whose been paying attention will know they are basically the same group of people). Only if it is a civil case, such as if the children were hurt due to negligence on Chuck E. Cheese's part, then there is a case.

I wonder, if these games are inappropriate, why did Chuck E. Cheese import them, and why aren't they rated and regulated accordingly by the responsible government department? These games didn't come out yesterday, so there must be a government department in existence that inspects them and rate them, unless the neo-conservatives cut funding and lifted regulation for businesses, the bastards.

It's your country, "bringer of illumination". I can see it very clearly watching from outside.

Leave the children alone, ma'am. If you really need cash, go to Bingo - less people will think you're a moron.

Sorry... I need to make a correction here:

Fixed.

For what?

What the fuck did she do to deserve that money? Correct me if I'm wrong but all she did was point out that the machines might be illegal. How the hell does that entitle someone to money?
This is exactly what I thought. She has -zero- right to claim any personal damages from this, let alone that much. It sounds like she is suing them for the general practice of having these machines in their restaurants: unless her kids have played on every single machine in every Chuck E Cheese - and personally lost close to $5 million while playing on them - there is no reason for her to deserve compensation of that magnitude.

EDIT:

She's suing as a class action, so the demanded $5 million isn't for her alone. It's for the entire class. The OP's article left out that part.
This makes much more sense. I still disagree with her though ? with intelligent parenting, kids can actually be taught about what is and is not a good idea and be educated through experience, rather than being relentlessly shielded from all the 'evils' of the world.

Perahps if she saved up her tickets...
don't even need to save up tickets anymore probably would be cheaper to just buy it since 1 ticket=1 cent
At our local Chuck E. Cheese, you can also just buy stuff. Or give cash to make up the difference.

I agree that trying to eliminate the problem is no kinda substitute for good parenting nor should it be any parent's first response. But I'm also inclined to agree that Chuck E. Cheese isn't the place for games of chance that pay "prizes." They should limit themselves to games of skill.

arcade machines- skill based (maybe some casino games are skill based but that,s considered cheating)
LEARN THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE!
"Keller had taken her children to Chuck E. Cheese's and saw that some of the games featured a device similar to a roulette wheel. The suit states that the games are based mostly on chance . . . ."

According to the plaintiff, Chuck the Mouse has games that are based on chance, not skill. If this is true, then those games most likely fit the legal definition of gambling.
If I'm correct, the roulette wheel-like games at these locations are less like an actual roulette wheel at a casino (A game of chance), and are based more around the player's reflexes, which could be considered a form of skill. I remember that the arcade that my uncle used to work at has something vaguely resembling an electronic roulette wheel, though, like I've said, it's based around hitting a button at the right time. Said arcade is actually owned by Namco (To those of you who have played Pac-Man World 2: You remember the tokens? Yeah, the texture is based on the "tails" side of tokens from real-life Namco-owned Arcades), and they also give you tickets for playing games, as does Dave and Busters, so she might as well sue them as well. But, as people have pointed out, you usually get tickets no matter what, and the only way to increase your winnings is to have either A) enough skill to do well at the game or B) Fast enough reflexes to do well at the game.

Ah yes, pure greed...

Sorry, but that's all I can think of when I read stuff like this. If she thought this was so important, she wouldn't be asking for $5 million. Take your case to court, hope you win, ask for enough cash to cover court expenses and bring about change that will also "benefit" other families where the parents can't say "no" to their kids. Geez...

I still like to think that there's at least someone on planet earth that occasionally does something for the betterment of mankind without the need to satisfy their own needs/wants/greed.

Kids now a days are way too damn sheltered...you don't like the games then don't take your kid there, Its because I've played so many of those games in my childhood that at my nephews parties they pick out what they want from the wall before hand then me and my brother will hit the proper machines in order to get them what they want, not just what their little minds and bodies could get. Math, statistics, and even geometry and physics are apart of some of those games, very educational. Every ticket machine will give you at least one ticket no matter how bad you do, if you lose when you gamble with cash you don't get shit back, believe me I've had experience with both. This is just one more way for the oldest generation to try and kill whats left of arcades in this country.

Remember the time some kid's mother got mad at Microsoft after her kid spent £1082 on Xbox Live?
