Edit : OP , i'm not sure if it was you , but i remember a thread before the game came out where the OP wrote , Ni Noni Kuni , and i was going to correct him , and then said fuck it i don't want to look like an ass . If it was you , i'm sorry , this could have been avoided .
That might have been me. I made a thread regarding the game before and sometimes I let typos slip from my grasp.

I'm not sure why, but I've been mispronouncing Kyogre since the day I first saw that Pokemon.

I always say "Korygore".

Any word that ends in -ier (saucier, financier) I can never tell if the ***** is pronounced "ay" or "eer" and it just ends up confusing me.

Though it's not a word originally from a game, I have a friend who adores Dynasty Warriors and gets all uppity if you pronounce "dynasty" wrong.
I always thought it was "die-nasty", but apparently is should be "dinusty". Is one just an American way of saying it and the other British?
Both of them are acceptable.

"Dee-nasty" is usually the British pronunciation.

"Die-nasty" is usually the American pronunciation.

I can't pronounce the word Quetzalcoatl, no matter how hard I try.

It is absolutely infuriating!
Closest I can get is "Ketsalkwattle", but I've been told it's good enough.

OT: Whenever there is a complicated name, to be honest. It's annoying that I can't think of any right now...aha, like Beezlebub, which I would pronounce Beezelbub. Not because I mixed up the letters, I just thought that was how it was.

I used to call Super Mario Bros. "Super Mario Bross" rather than "Super Mario Brothers". To be fair, English is my second language.

For the longest time, a friend of mine pronounced "yellow" as "lellow". Even when I called him on it, he kept doing it. I actually haven't talked to him in a few years, so for all I know, he may still be doing it.

Personally I'm just a bit upset that everyone misses the letter U out of Medal of Honour and Dishonoured.

Also, is it Kingdoms of Alamur or Amalur? I can never remember.
I get the distinct feeling that you're English. Honour and Honor are both correct spellings. It's just that we, in the States, do not use the extra U. Just so, the Escapist's spell-check is telling me that honour is incorrect. It's actually a pretty easy way to tell an American from an Englishman. :p

Also, it's Amalur. [sub]And I am not going to spell it Dishonoured when the box itself clearly says Dishonored.[/sub]

I've got a pretty firm grasp of general phonetics so I tend to pronounce things correctly. Although anything Middle-Eastern will trip me up a lot of times.
Could be Aussie we spell it the proper way as well. Please don't argue that the English don't spell English words correctly.

OP Only one that springs to mind is the one on the subject starters point I've been going round town today trying to find a copy of nino no kuni all day to blank stares. There may be other games who's pronunciation I'm screwing up without knowing though especially If their is no audio dub on the game

Genre was a big one for me. And subtle. I pronounced both the way they by all rights should be pronounced based on spelling.

Now, one I'm quite adamant on is that smaug from the hobbit should be pronounced Smawg, not smoug as both movies, and the video game had it.

Before actually playing the game, I used to call Raiden from MGS2 "Ray-den."

There are some other pronunciations I've stuck with. If it's pronounced one way in the pilot episode (or début episode of that character) I will go by that pronunciation, no matter how it's corrected in later episodes.

I usually have odd ways of pronouncing names in books. Because I mostly read fantasy fiction, the names can be quite creative and unusual. Sometimes, I see the author is trying a little too hard and I can't quite work it out, or settle on something that is relatively easy to pronounce (while reading silently to oneself that is). As such I tend to settle on a pronunciation with myself and that's what that word becomes.

An example, which anyone who's read "Name of the Wind" may appreciate. I couldn't quite work out how the author wanted us to pronounce Kvoth's name. In the end, I just settle on Koh-th (like "cough" but with the "th" sound at the end instead).

I also get simple things quite horribly wrong. In the "Wheel of Time", it turns out for years I was pronouncing "Egwene" and "Aes Sedai" in particular quite wrong. Jordan even included pronunciation guides. As it turns out, in these two instances at least, the author's way was a lot better than my way so I struggled for a while to "switch".

This should help solve the problem with Deus Ex once and for all. It shall henceforth be written as: Deüs Ex.

I used to know an idiotic guy who managed to mispronounce at least one thing in every game.

One of his most annoying ones was pronouncing "turrets" as "turrents".

I actually used to say and even though that Skyrim is Skyrm. then one friend who is TES fan sorted me straight.
often in games i make my own names for units ect so that hardly comes to that. like healers in RPGs are "old men". this comes form times when my english was not good enough to know the meaning of the name to begin with.

Um. What are you talking about? I never once said the English don't spell correctly. If you'll read again, I said both spellings are correct. Go ahead. Check again. And don't get all 'proper' on me, pal. There's a difference between American English and English English, whether you like it or not. I wasn't arguing that the English don't spell correctly, I was saying that Escapist's spell-check is telling me "honour" is incorrect. In America, we do not use the extra U. We spell is as "honor." For all I know, it could tell him that "honor" is incorrect.

In America, we spell it the proper way, too. Please don't argue that Americans don't spell English words correctly.

See? I can do it, too. American English and English English are not 100% the same, do not attempt to tell me we're doing it wrong.

Pronounced: B - L - ze - bub

Zebes and Tourian from Metroid. I was always pronouncing it Zee-bees and Tour-eh-n respectively.
Then when I played Other M I found out it was supposed to be pronounced Z-eh-b-eh-s and Tour-ian respecivly, but fuck you Other M, I'm going to keep pronouncing it Zee-bees.

That's one of the words that seriously trip me up. When I first saw it I was like, ......All my wat.

I always try to say Kweht-sul-coat-l but end up actually saying Kweht-sul-coal-tul.
